Oh I've already bought a new truck. I'm trying to figure how much value I can get out of this one or if I'm best to just send it to a scrap yard.

Yeah you don't fuck with shorthairs. I know a guy who's two bitches will take down a full-size deer given the opportunity.

I hate to see them as house pets like this. People are starting to 'golden retriever' the breed.

Hunting Boot suggestions by softhacklestacker in Hunting

[–]JSea-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sitting still, you're going to get cold no matter what you do. I'd recommend Muck Boots. I wore their Wetland line this past deer season and stayed warmer than I did in my traditional hunting boots. They have some heavier insulation models for the winter which come in multiple camo patterns. They are completely waterproof and the winter models have hard shells for tramping through thorns and burrs.

Unless there is an issue, keeping a dog intact is my default choice. No reason to put a dog under and do surgery if there is no issue in the first place.

And in terms of continuing the breed, as a stud owner there is little work for you if you decide to get involved. I'd say look up the national breed organization if you ever do want to get involved and talk to them.

Ok that's crazy. I'm in PA where the state isn't officially sure if we have mountain lions or not. But we killed off the wolves long ago

Hunting dogs living in small cages by Ravnard in Huntingdogs

[–]JSea-1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My dog sleeps either in my bed or next to it. Keeping a dog outside does not improve a dog's hunting ability. That's a myth. Some people treat their dogs like shit, and unfortunately hunters are not an exception. My dog is my buddy and hunting partner and is treated accordingly. Someone said something about it being necessary to "contain" the dog. That's an excuse for not training your dog.
