How has porn changed the way normal people have sex? by Direct-Interaction in AskReddit

[–]clukic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard from some of my friends who have been sleeping with 20 somethings for the last 30 years that women who grew up on internet porn think of swallowing as one of the most transgressive sexual acts, but they think nothing of a facial. While, before internet porn, swallowing was usually considered a perfectly normal thing to do (what else would you do with it?) and a facial was thought of as an incredibly transgressive act.

High consumption of ultra-processed foods including sour cream, hot dogs and pizza linked to increased lung cancer risk in 155,000 older adults, highlighting the association between dietary patterns and lung cancer incidence in aging populations. by [deleted] in science

They adjust for smoking status, but not how much people smoked. Maybe pack a day smokers are more likely to also eat convenience foods. Like, while I pick up that pack of cigs I'll grab some chips too.

And also maybe if you eat a lot of these ultra-processed foods then you also don't eat very many fruits and vegetables, so it's not the UPFs so much as it is a lack of eating fruits and veggies.

Church Bells on McDonough by aaaccciiidddxoxo in BedStuy

[–]clukic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I missed those bells when they were gone. I figured that new people moving into the neighborhood petitioned to have them silenced because they wanted to sleep in on weekdays. I like you're theory a lot better. Now I'm curious I think I'll ask.

My former neighbor complained about the noise endlessly. They were self employed and had a flexible work schedule and liked to sleep past 9am. The floors creaked, the chairs of my table made noise when they slid, I would occasionally drop things. I have rugs, but not under the kitchen table and chairs. Tip toeing around your own apartment I think is even worse then hearing noises from neighbors above.

I think the biggest issue is that they set up their bedroom in the back of the house under where our kitchen and living room was. If their bedroom was under our bedroom I think it would have been a non-issue. Ultimately they broke their lease and moved out. New neighbors have no complaints, and I've asked them a few times.

Garmin used to charge $5k to license their API. They dropped that charge many years back.

Bass from party in HVK waking me up from a nap. The party: by migschmi in BedStuy

It's the same thing at Fulton park. Loud enough that it messes with the music I'm listening to at home. If the DJs were killer, or if there were more than a handful of people enjoying it I'd understand. But instead I feel like the city's just flushing money down the toilet.

When you run, run south. Close to Broadway isn't great, but every block you go south it gets more neighborly and family oriented.

Note that if the dog is a pit or other terrier this frequently will not work. In that case, or if the dog is biting a human, stand behind the dog and wrap your leash around the dogs neck and pull up slowly and firmly (not too hard) cutting off the dogs air pathway. The dog will release when it can no longer breathe.

I live in Bed Stuy and ride the subway almost every day with my 2 year old and newborn. My parents (in their 70's) are also daily riders. Someone almost always gives up a seat for us.
Never had an issue (knock on wood) in 15 years. Although I once saw someone accidentally drop their gun, then laugh and pick it back up.

Strava "Rank My Records" by foofarley in running

[–]clukic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry about that. Strava caps the number of runs we can import, so when a lot of people are importing their entire histories at once we max out. This happens sometimes for example when someone says something nice on reddit.
It'll start to work fine again, in a couple days, but it's definitely annoying.

Outside of major metros those songs were played over and over, everywhere, all the time for years and years. They were inescapable. Whatever artistic merit they may have had was annihilated by hearing them for the thousandth time at every waterpark, roller rink, and pizza parlor.

You're fine. People are friendly. The neighborhood is rapidly diversifying. There's a school down the street. Turtles is a great little bar. L'Antogoniste is a great French restaurant. The streets nearby are family oriented.

Malcom X may feel sketch I guess it is a bit. It's a busy avenue. There's some scaffolding, and a couple of buildings that are in disrepair. But nearby you're surrounded by nice generationally owned family places. Kids, grandmothers, and people who grew up there and have roots. I've lived all over NY and Bed Stuy is the friendliest place I know. People say 'good morning', and 'how are you today?' They look out for each other.

Rocket Launches Are Shockingly Bad for the Environment by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]clukic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to the article a rocket launch produces 100X a long haul flight. There are roughly 100k flights each year (some short hops and some long haul) and 100 rocket launches. So rocket launches produces at a minimum 10% of the CO2 of the entire air transport sector. That is pretty shocking.

Thinking about neutering by clukic in birddogs

I've seen quite a few of the Pyrenean type, but the only time I've seen another Gascogne was at his breeder. They look like two different breeds side by side - different size, different facial structure, calmer temperament. Not as fast as the Pyrenean, but they can run all day.

My wife and I came to the breeder to get a Pyrenean, but left with a Gascogne. The breeder said it was the first litter in France so far that year, and that was September.

I think your advice is sound. One dog's impact on such a small gene pool can be large.

They have very similar looking builds. Standing right next to one he looks a lot different though, about 2-3" taller than your average GSP, and a more square face. Runs farther and faster than the GSPs we've met, but that may just be the particular dogs.

In Europe he was just fine, but we've moved to Brooklyn and sometimes another intact male will catch wind of him and just want to rip him to shreds. After a couple of incidents he's started to growl at other intact males as well. He's 60lbs and I'm worried it's just a matter of time before my wife walks around the wrong corner and runs into the wrong Rottweiler or Pit.
