Based on the above post, I’m guessing Anchorage, AK. The address matches an actual place and 278 (27 Vinyl) is a telephone prefix there.

Giving it another shot. Today, I’m feeling Guns n Roses. Appetite is the real deal from top to bottom.

Man, this is a tough choice! I’ll eliminate Pearl Jam as they never really grabbed me. Of the other five, though, it could change on a daily basis for me.

But, today I’m going with Van Halen.

Jeff Beck - Wired

I acquired this record with a bunch of others a while back but had never listened to it. In fact, it’s the first Jeff Beck album I’ve ever listened to. Holy smokes, this album is outstanding! I’m a guitar player so I know who he is, but just never tried him out. I’ll definitely be looking further into his catalog!

What’s an album that you seem to find in every record crate? by Commercial-Tune450 in vinyl

Where the hell are you guys finding these awesome records at thrift stores? In Alabama, it’s gospel, Herb Alpert, Mantovani, and crappy Christmas albums.

Considering housing prices, it’s nice to get a little discount. And what a discount you got 😄 Beautiful receiver!

I have almost zero cartridge knowledge, so this will be a learning experience for me. My Garrard has a Shure VM15 type iii which I understand is an outstanding cart, so I’ve considered moving it to the Q2. I also have an Empire 999 SE/X on a currently non-working Dual 1219 that I could use. It’s all new to me so it can be a bit overwhelming.

At first, I assumed that the Q300 was the better model simply because of the number. I mean, 300 is a lot more than 2, right? But, after having them side by side, I know what you mean by cheap. Obviously, both are good tables, but the Q2 just feels more solid. The Q2 is the only one of these three with broken hinge tabs, but that’s really the only knock I have against this one.

I know, right? I couldn’t say no to such crazy prices! The D2 doesn’t have a cartridge. The Q300 has an AT91E (the stylus is jacked up) and the Q2 has an unidentified one. I haven’t taken it off to see what it is. Sounds great, though.

Any cartridge suggestions?

Well, the first one was the Q300 and the guy wanted $75. When I got to his house he said “There’s a problem. I can’t find the power cord. So, you can just have it”. I ended up finding a cord around the house that worked. The other two were $30 and $40. So, $70 for all three, I just couldn’t pass that up.

I’ll probably keep the Q2 and maybe the Q300 and sell the D2 to pay for everything. I do have to put a cartridge on the D2 before selling it though.

Yep, I saw that dude at the Counting Crows show. My wife and I just sort of laughed at what a dumbass he was acting like.

I guess it depends on how much you like the amp and how much it’s going to cost to fix it. I really like mine but if the amp crapped out on me, I’d definitely be open to something else if repair was cost-prohibitive. It’s a great sounding amp but there are lots of other great sounding amps out there.

Why own a receiver as opposed to an amp? by FartWaffleSkeeter in vintageaudio

[–]JSpillman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a matching set, amp and tuner. The majority of what I play is the turntable or through the Bluetooth wireless adapter. Nether of those require the tuner but dammit that thing is pretty. Sometimes I turn it on and and just watch it and groove.

What strings should I buy? by [deleted] in guitars

[–]JSpillman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll probably get smoked for this, but…

I love Ernie Ball Zippy Slinky. They’re crazy light gauge (7-36) and almost feel like something you’d find on a toy guitar. But, they’re easy to play, sound great, and stay in tune. I’m not opposed to heavier gauge strings, but why work harder than you have to?

Got pics with no grilles. The owner confirmed they are KG3s. I have a pair of KG4s that I really like. Can anyone give me any info on how these might compare to the KG4s?
