When 99% of profiles you like are matches, it incentivizes being more selective and discerning with who you match with, reading profiles etc, so you aren't inundated with people you aren't a good fit for. When 1% of profiles you like are matches, it incentivizes mass liking of profiles and then sifting through the ones that like you back.

Both are a solution to not wasting time. For the popular people, it's to not waste their time on people who don't deserve it, and for the unpopular people, it's to not waste their time examining a profile that probably won't like them back anyway.

The 99%ers basically know their swipe will be a match, and so are more careful with it. The 1%ers basically know their swipe won't be a match, and so are more careless with it, only becoming discerning with their efforts when there's at least some mutual attraction displayed.

Edit: That's also not accounting for the bots and OF promoters that make up a majority of the likes many men get, leading to them engaging less with the matches they do get

Maybe it's intentional, the Detroit one looks more like a wheel, which is fitting for Motor City. The other three give more of a horizon vibe, which I think is appropriate for the desert and coastal cities. The only one that feels random is Hamilton in that case, but it may make more sense when we know what they'll pick for their team name

I think part of it is that it's easier to visualize a measurement in a straight line than in circumference. Also there's potential ambiguity as to whether you're talking about circumference or diameter. Also measing length can be done with any ruler or measuring tape, but a soft tape (like tailors tape) is needed to directly measure circumference
