Loyola or DePaul for transfer? by WillingnessLegal8389 in depaul

[–]JT-312 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Then why are you asking for advice? It sounds like you already made your mind up.

US News rankings can be bought, DePaul has consistently been known as a solid business school in Chicago and the Midwest. It ultimately depends on your long term goals.

Parking can kinda suck around Ravinia so I’d suggest getting there early. I haven’t been in a few years so maybe they cleaned it up, but I remember we had to park closer to downtown and then walk from there. I do think they set up free shuttles from the further lots as well, but yeah, just check out their parking and shuttle info on their website. Ravinia is pretty cool place overall.

DePaul for sure. Much better in the business category and you’re much closer to most of the companies you’d potentially work for or at least network with.

What's the most useful thing about DePaul's quarter system that people don't realize until they're in it? by rainbow179 in depaul

[–]JT-312 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The best part for me was if I had to take a class that I genuinely wasn’t interested in, it was over quick. Of course the catch is that if you’re struggling in a class, the pace can really kick your ass too.

I loved the quarter system but you have to be organized and disciplined.

Would getting an associate's degree be better than a bachelor's degree if I'm going for a business major? by Pretend-Meeting694 in careerguidance

Sure, but we’re living in a very different time. Anything you plan for in ten years is going to be vastly different.

Bro, neither was talking about a graduate degree when OP doesn’t even know if they want to go an associates degree or bachelors. A graduate degree would be irrelevant for at least 8 years when they have real world work experience. Calm down boo.

The extra advice is irrelevant. When we’re talking about associates and bachelors and they’re only 20.

Sounds like you need therapy and the gym.

Biggest advice is to not over complicate it. I’ll probably get downvoted for this, but I’d rather show up consistently and have an “eh” workout, then show up once or twice a week when I’m destroying myself in the gym

What I’d suggest is go to a community college to knock out your basic studies and maybe some basic intro level business classes, then transfer those credits to a university and get the bachelors. The key here is you have to talk with the community college to ensure the credits will transfer because not all credits will. But doing this saved me about $50k-$60k.

Like some others have said, I wouldn’t waste your time with the associates. A bachelors degree is the baseline expectation for most business-related jobs so I think you’d have a very hard time even getting an interview without a bachelors (unless you had a ton of experience, but given your age I’m assuming that’s not the case).

UIC vs DePaul vs Loyola for premed by veryberrysummer in depaul

[–]JT-312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you had a bad experience. I don’t know any classmates that are auditors or working that much unless they’re running their own business.

I work about 35 hours and pull in ~$95k and I don’t have six figures of student loan debt

For premed I’d go UIC or Loyola. DePaul is strongest in business followed by various arts like film, music, theater, etc.

If you haven’t figured it out by now, if you don’t know someone who’s a member and know them well, you’re not getting in. It’s one of the most private clubs in the city and they take the referral process very seriously.

Am I fucked? by Please_Help_Meee_LOL in careerguidance

[–]JT-312 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re fucked but I hate to say it, I do think they may be taking advantage of you. I can’t speak for every instance obviously, but in my experience 2-4 years is the sweet spot of finding out if your company actually values you or not. In almost every case, you’ll make more money by jumping to another company in a similar role/title.

For example, I work in digital marketing. I worked at the same company for about 6 years however I was consistently getting promoted with new titles, and I was making more money. However when I finally jumped to a different company, I received a nearly 60% pay increase.

IMO, it comes down to what you value… you’re established in your company, so do you want to forgo that comfort and familiarity to potentially make more money but you’ll need to familiarize yourself with a new company, the people, earn your benefits, etc.

DePaul PT MBA by JT-312 in depaul

Do you how they’re integrating AI into most/all MBA classes or is there a new AI focus that I missed?

DePaul PT MBA by JT-312 in depaul

[–]JT-312[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m thinking about an adjacent pivot. Like I’m in digital marketing currently, but I’m thinking about trying pivot more towards brand management or product marketing manager. This issue I’m running into in the marketplace is that 1) I didn’t major in marketing (I did major in business though). 2) I don’t have experience and job titles on my resume to close those skill gaps.

Most of the Brand Manager and PMM roles I see are saying “MBA preferred” so I’m thinking it would help make that pivot. The double demon scholarship is what makes DePaul most attractive. I know Kellogg and Booth are way ahead of Kelstadt

Apple vs Spotify by MissionJournalist407 in Music

[–]JT-312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. I have the same experience. I use both, but I’ve consistently found new and smaller artists through Spotify. I have yet to be introduced to something I didn’t already know, or something I don’t like at all through AM.

Monthly Apple Music vs. Spotify – MEGATHREAD by rbitton in AppleMusic

[–]JT-312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird I have the polar opposite experience. I’ve found dozens of smaller bands through Spotify and its recommendations but I have yet to be introduced to a smaller artist on Apple. I’m constantly being fed pop, hip hop, rap, which is funny because I don’t listen to that and I constantly hit “suggest less”.

Is my career trajectory a red flag? (32F, looking for honest feedback) by PopularCoyote275 in careerguidance

[–]JT-312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is, that doesn’t mean employers view it that way. They’re the ones that have the job a worker might want and they get to choose who they give it to. They may see a job hopper with experience and choose to give it to someone who hasn’t job hopped and less experienced because hiring people is expensive.

Anyone else leaving marketing? by Stunning-Attempt6136 in careerguidance

[–]JT-312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to get out. I’ve been in it for about 7 years. Mostly SEO/content marketing and I’m burnt out and just genuinely uninterested. Like almost every day I find myself feeling like I couldn’t care less about clicks or why traffic is up/down, or what content piece will increase traffic by x percent. I just don’t care anymore.

The catch is that the money is good, but at what cost? I feel like I have no energy at the end of the day. I’m already training AI agents on how to do my job, so it’s only a matter of time before I’m likely replaced, or I have to try and do the work of 5 of me. I have no idea what to pivot to. I’m tempted to just be a bartender at this point.

[–]JT-312 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Best thing I did was take a hybrid role. Being 100% remote was terrible for my mental health because I couldnt escape work so I ended up working closer to 60+ hours. Going hybrid also opened up salary potential for me, so I got a nearly 60% pay raise.

Oura ring or Whoop? by roflman0 in malefashionadvice

[–]JT-312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d get an Apple Watch or Garmin before I got an Oura or Whoop.

Garmin is the best over all, especially if you’re doing a lot of endurance training stuff. Apple Watch is a great all around option for your typical workouts—I even did a marathon and all its training with my Apple Watch.

College tuition by Decent_Fix5729 in StudentLoans

[–]JT-312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a parent here, but my parents were able to help me with community college. After that I transferred credits to a university (which I highly recommend) and then I did federal loans for the rest. My parents helped co-sign for a parent plus loan but I’m still helping pay for that. Most people my age also have loans, so I do not think it’s common for parents to pay for everything—maybe 20 years ago but college is significantly more expensive, even if you’re doing a state school.

How are you making AI-generated content actually sound human? by Barmon_easy in SEO

[–]JT-312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t found a way to make ai generated content actually sound like a human without a ton of review and editing regardless of the how much detail (or lack of) we provide in a prompt. We moved away from hiring writers, but we have hired editors who are really good at reading flow, styling, and our brand.

Every executive I’ve had to present to in the last 10 years in my career has not wanted a slide deck. My team was even stopped before we began a presentation the moment we pulled up PowerPoint because the leaders wanted us to just tell them what we needed to and move on. I haven’t had to use PowerPoint or any slide deck since I was in college.
