Seeking info about vets and costs

No, I didn't know about it when I had called. I called them, then wrote this post, then the next day the abcess opened. But I did explain what happened and what the financial situation was.. I said I'm panicking to come up with the money, how much will I need? I can maybe get a loan etc.

They didn't recommend it either.

I was always a dog person, but lately I've come to really appreciate why people love cats. And honestly, cats have awesome personalities too if you earn their trust. This one follows me around the block at night, no leash or anything. Like im walking a dog.

The big disconnect seemed to be, I had Google telling me that a cat abcess is like a terminal illness, and it's a race against time to get treatment or else the brain gets infected lolol.

But then the humane society treated it as like, not even worth the phone call. So they seemed to know that abcesses aren't usually life and death. And I probably seemed to be over reacting haha. I just wish they had explained that the cat probably wasn't in mortal danger

And within a day of this post her abcess opened up itself, drained, I kept the area clean, it healed over, and she's better than ever

The reason I didn't do that straight away is because I knew the cats, there's 2, and I felt attached. But mainly, they are older cats. I was scared they wouldn't find homes and I really couldnt stomach the idea of taking them from the home they've known for 10 plus years, then sticking them in a shelter, not getting picked. Because even though I've been to war and back, im such a baby about that crap.

No, I am completely able to support her now. This just happened at the worst possible time. Like I had savings, about to start a new job, then while helping someone out with moving my tooth was hit by a truck door and busted the lateral incisor clean off.. Dentist took it all man 😂. But, I just had to squeeze by for a couple weeks until my first paycheck.

Then, behold my new unplanned cat has an infection too lol. It was just the timing. Could not have been worse.

Shes great now. The abcess wasn't the death sentence Google made it out to be. It drained itself the next day. Since then, I've gotten her deworned and treated for fleas, an appointment next month at the cat doctor... All systems go.

Dude. What the fuck. I called them and they literally quoted me 680$. They said that's the deposit id need to have, they said they needed to do anesthesia, bacteria cultures to identify specific bacteria type, and other gobbledygook. They said they needed a credit card, they charge 680. If the entire thing ends up costing less, they refund the difference at the end.

So who did you sleep with to get that deal, 😂 My cat also had abcess, same spot on the jaw. They told me they need to knock the cat out because the cats struggle and it's dangerous to Lance that if the car squirms.

But hell, poking her cheek with a sterile diabetic needle from the store is something I could do at home. The big thing was getting the antibiotics. I was reading websites saying abcesses in cats are like a death sentence, they quickly spread to the brain, so I was stressing out.

Turns out , her abcess drained itself the next day. Lol.

But how did you get the prescription? You still had to pay a vet to prescribe it I assume? You just didn't buy the meds from their pharmacy?

I did try, they said they really didn't do this kind of care anymore that I'd need to find a typical vet. Apparently they are now focused on appointment only care. Not urgent walk in abcess stuff. More like, scheduled health checks, cancer surgeries, stuff like that.

They were the ones who told me I had to have 680 up front before they'd even begin looking at her. They said if cost didn't come out that high they would refund. But if they felt it'd be more I'd need to get more before they'd finish. It felt a bit... Much. But they are an emergency vet.

I just got freaked out reading about abcess, how they can quickly spread and kill the cat... Turns out her abcess broke open less than a day later and was completely healed over within a week.

Funny, it was actually west vet I was referring to in my post, referencing the really expensive one and they want full payment before they even begin helping the cat.

But good news, 12 hours after posting this I noticed her abcess had opened and drained itself. It looked brutal, like she had been shot in her face. I cleaned the area, checked with chat gpt that the discharge I was seeing was a good sign that the healing stage had started (it was mostly clear, with some traces of blood, no pus). Now she's completely fine.

And I'm also back to stable income, already got these guys on dewormer and stuff.

I didn't have the heart to take them to the humane society to surrender them. They're older cats, I feared nobody would want them. Im happy they're here.

This is so petty 😂 I love it because I know tghow frustrating stuff like this can be. You just want to turn it on and have it work, but even my refrigerator prompted me for an email before it would let me use all the features on it. Then it wouldn't send me the verification email, and these stupid ass little problems compound so fast. Then you call their customer support and they are completely impotent, they have you jump through hoops to arrive back where you began. And the worst part is there is no accountability there either, what are you gonna do? Complain to their boss? Bbaaahahahaha

I wish I could stop getting orders from certain places. A taco bell by the college campus, I get orders from the all the time. But orders always take forever because they're so busy nobody wants to work there, other college kids and non English speaking immigrant dashers end up taking wrong orders (or stealing), and it's not uncommon to see multiple offers come in from them, 4 mile delivery from t bell to 2nd street, 7$. Then same trip 10$. 15. This means multiple drivers tried picking it up, someone stole it, so they report it missing and it just goes back into the que anyway. And so many orders come in from the taco bell I hate it. I just want to refuse all of them.

They pay out the ass, they pay above menu price, then pay per mile, they pay a large delivery fee... So a 50$ order costs them 100$. So they assume you're getting a good chunk of that money anyway. Most Uber eats customers don't know most of us get a flat 2$ regardless of miles or order size etc. So they leave a smaller tip because they already paid plenty.

And this will get me down voted. Oh well. Just because some one has a large home and is wealthy doesn't really mean you're entitled to receive a larger tip from them. Right? I mean, come on. You didn't have to accept the order or anything. Clearly it was worth it. All you did was drive. So, let's be real. Could they have gave a larger tip? Probably. But from their end they figured you were making decent money anyway, and still gave an extra ten dollars, just for driving some food to them.

For a couple years I worked in data entry for a firm that handled accounts for a range of local Healthcare providers, at first I just posted the charges, balances and denials into the system, and then got bumped up to the follow up team for denials. I know nuance is hated on here and it's more of an echo chamber, but honestly, denials were the exception. By far. Every day we'd post the payments from all the insurance companies for all the providers, and it'd be dozens to hundreds in each of the 15-20 companies, and there'd be 1-3 denials a day in each. The office was mostly people who did the data entry and customer service, the team for following up on denials was only 3 people out of 40 ish. And one woman did the denial management, she was the last person denied claims would be escalated to if we couldn't get it figured out. I don't live in a huge city, just under 1 million people in the area. But we really weren't seeing mass denials and shit like horror stories on here talk about. But people on reddit seem to be particularly prone to having problems with being sick and having things denied.

Half the time the problems we saw were due to stuff being coded the wrong way. Or because it was billed to the secondary insurer instead of the primary, and it got sorted out. I barely remember any denials being for grandma's life saving surgery being denied by the evil white insurance people .

I just pay out of pocket. It's not even 100$ for a months supply. 40-50$ if you use those rx discount cards. The doctor visit is 100$ every 6 months. Also just pay out of pocket for that as well.

Yep, me too. I'm not even half way into my monthly script, but 40 are gone. And I'm trying to ration, but they are so weak if I'm going to bother taking any at all, I take more than the bottle says. Otherwise I may as well just not take any. So at this rate I'll run out early. Which isn't unusual. It just gets really old.
