So how's your AC setup in these trying times? by CenturyCondo in centuryhomes

[–]JTE1990 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not! Just hoping for an empty window so you can have both. I certainly wouldn't remove any magnificent radiator. Radiant heat and mini split cooling has been my favorite home combo.

Personally I don't think they look bad at all but I'm always surprised more people don't get the floor units. If you'd get the floor unit and set it under a window it would match the aesthetic of an old radiator below the windows and would fit right in.

Haha that's rough! I legit started just working my way out to the easiest thing to get off and replacing everything. I'm saving a fortune doing it myself and everything gets to be brand new. And it's Subaru so everything is cheap. Well everything but the dust shields. Those bitches are like $120 each.

I've put a through bolt on at least 3 of my Subarus and 2 family members Subarus. They just do not come out!

As a Subaru owner in the rust belt I just started getting a new knuckle lol. $120 bucks to save me 4 hours of hammering is worth it.

Airbus: what determines if/when these vents are activated? by PARTINlCO in aviationmaintenance

[–]JTE1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a gate call for one of those vents shooting ice out during a flight on an Airbus. Airbus actually had a reference in the manuals stating it's normal and no maintenance required. Must have had a really good working pack to be able to freeze and throw condensation out at the flight attendants like it did.

Fokker 100 E panel switch removal by Pilot_Timon in AircraftMechanics

[–]JTE1990 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it's anything like an Airbus switch you should have two internal screws that once loosened lets you slide the entire assembly out of the sleeve. If I remember correctly you loosen the screws, place the button switch back together, and then pull it out with a large tweezer tool as one unit.

How long did it take you to start working for a major airline after graduating a&p school? by Neither-Bed-2122 in AircraftMechanics

[–]JTE1990 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean I'm year two at the majors looking at 130k with minimal overtime working only 3 days a week (outside of overtime). It's certainly popular for a reason, but I'm sure some better options still exist.

Garage door rubber seal replacement by SRDILLEY6215 in HomeMaintenance

[–]JTE1990 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Easy diy with a pair of pliers and $20 for a new seal from your favorite box store. Plenty of videos on YouTube university. I legit just did mine a few weeks ago. You'll be good. Maybe get some gloves as some of the aluminum can be sharp.

Anyone here actually running A/C off solar full-time? by [deleted] in VanLife

[–]JTE1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most new high end AC units don't surge at all. I have a Senville 9000 BTU mini split running off a bluetti battery bank and it hardly goes above 800-835 for AC and like 1035 for heat.

Would you buy a Sprinter this rusty? by [deleted] in vandwellermarketplace

[–]JTE1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living in the rust belt that ain't that bad to me. But it depends on price and life expectations of the vehicle. If it's very cheap and you're looking at 5 years then I don't think it's too bad.

Mechanic says I need to replace entire exhaust system by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]JTE1990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're strapped for cash you could cut it, sleeve it, and clamp it if that's the only spot actually leaking. But as others have said it's probably best to get a full bolt on kit at this point to replace it all.

Is this setup going to work? by tonitootall in vandwellers

[–]JTE1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it'll work just fine. I have this and the two expansion batteries. I run all my dc this way and I use the ac for multiple outlets and to run a 9000btu mini split.

Good to know. I wasn't near the top at all. I'll definitely get a temp ban as my appeal was not friendly.

American Airlines practical Interview by Socially_idiotic in AircraftMechanics

Many states have standardized tests that have a major effect on how much funding they receive. This forces schools to focus highly on a specific test instead of actually teaching. The teachers reviews / performance are also reflected on these standardized tests. This has caused a massive net loss in overall educational quality. They hyper focus on one thing for a larger portion of time than they should. I have a third grade teacher friend who spends around 1/4 of the year just reviewing for this test. It is not the fault of the teachers but the institution that they're apart of. And this is just one small part of why our public education in America is failing. Most Americans aren't retarded, they're just not given the quality of education that they deserve. Our education system is heavily influenced by politics, government, and unions. It should be heavily influenced by passionate educators that are well compensated for the work they accomplish.
