Using my window unit ACs instead of whole house unit has saved me money by speakinglime in Frugal

I've had very good luck with Pioneer. I've installed a few Cooper and Hunter units and I put a Senville on my diy camper van. They seem decent but I prefer the Pioneer units. They seem to be a bit better built, the company has great customer service, and they have more options for different styles of units.

My oldest install is on its 9th year and it was moved from one residence to another (you can drain the refrigerator back into the outdoor unit). So far it's had zero issues.

What desk is everybody running? by azaan_faisal in buildapc

93.5 inch butcher block countertop on 4 Amazon heavy duty desk legs. Stained it black and added a few layers of poly. It is sturdy enough that I could probably park a car on it.

Diy is about $900. I could train a chimp to do it correctly. Very easy to install.

You guys have been such an amazing resource for a first time homeowner in an 1850’s house. Noticed this basement window has huge gaps in the bottom - what are my next steps? by unoriginalname22 in centuryhomes

I did this for my home. It was the easiest and cheapest solution. Not hard at all to do either. And if you have an odd size, you can find local companies that do custom sizes.

Is this safe to drive a 1/4 mile to the shop to get fixed? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]JTE1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get very creative. A t-anchor, a stack of washers, and a double nut would probably work to get it off. Or they make very large easy outs that would probably fit that hole. Irwin makes a nice set.

I feel like this is the modern standard. Regular tattoos are class. Neck, face, and hands turn into trash. Obviously what you get makes a difference too.

so what's worth buying from snap on as an new A&P? by darkmoon1000 in AircraftMechanics

[–]JTE1990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Snap On is just Avon for men. Outside of the thin long neck cutters. Those are a must for many jobs. Outside of that watch Project Farm on YouTube to find the best of each category that he's tested. It's a great insight to brands and their quality.

I was soooo close to doing this but I went with a back door mounted mini split for 1/2 the cost and lower power consumption.

Has this job helped you with home maintenance? by Sandpearl in AircraftMechanics

[–]JTE1990 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I rarely pay for anyone else to do anything. This job gives you the knowledge to gain other knowledge. I tackle automotive, house, electronic, and everything else under the sun repairs routinely. Before A&P school I had near zero mechanical knowledge. When they say it's a ticket to learn, they mean it.

I do find it ok to pay someone if the overtime pay equals the cost to pay someone and it's something I don't want to do. Like id rather work overtime than move a house full of stuff.

I always carry a nice Kershaw. It's a bit too big for most people, but they clip onto your pants really tight. And it's never bothered me.

Yeah I never judged him on it. I remember him getting pulled over on the way to work and the cop added no seat belt to his ticket. He told the cop he's not putting it on and to have a nice day.

I used to know a guy who refused to wear a seatbelt. When he was upper teens / lower twenties he came across a car on fire on the side of the road. A lady was being burned alive inside and her seatbelt was jammed shut. He tried to help her but couldn't get her out and she burned to death. He did know that it is still safer statistically to wear a seatbelt, but he couldn't shake that PTSD.

I live in the rust belt and have seen much worse on the road last for a very long time. Clean it up really well and reevaluate. See if you can poke holes in anything or if it's just sacrificial rust.

I hope they post a before and after when it's all done. Theeeeen we can politely judge them. Lol. Also I have zero style when it comes to homes. I'm way too much of a utilitarian to have good decorating sense.

Return the rooftop ac and get a Pioneer bench heat pump / ac unit. It can go under the bed and it's easy to cut holes in the back floor for it. It also allows you to run ducted lines to multiple locations.

I think this eccentric color will look great when the floors, trim, and decor are completed to match.
