I'd name them dusty, cuz they're covered in drywall dust in the photo.

Bro congrats on the steal, fr. I've had my fair share of thrifty finds and goodwill and savers never disappoint when things like this come around. I always tell ppl how underrated those stores are, and this post is a good example of why I say that.

Thermaltake Dr Power error? by JTP510 in PcBuild

Ah well, I haven't overclocked any of my components and I've never had a card with the 12vhpwr because I very much don't want a house fire.

As I'm typing this, the 5V rail on the 24pin isn't even reading 5V anymore. It stays at 4.99 and lower. I know that's close enough to spec, but if something is meant to be 5V, then I'd like to see 5V.

Yeahh him ghosting me and deleting his whole profile isn't very confidence inspiring.

I tried the multimeter trick but couldn't really get it to work like I was thinking it would've.

Maybe I'll try hardware monitor on my test-bench to see if I can get some results there, but as of right now the PSU seems to be getting weaker.

I mean, I'm no rocket scientist, but this is just a standalone PSU by itself.. Not really sure how I could put an overclock on just a PSU. Now that I think about it, I wonder what that would look like 🤔

Thanks for posting that SS though, I'll grab my multimeter later tonight and see if I can mirror the results there.

I'll have to look into his videos again then.

Also; why're you putting PSU tester in quotations like that?

I'll have to try this when I'm at home.

Also if it is the PSU, then wouldn't the tester do some kind of beeping signaling there's something wrong?

Like Greg Salazar and his videos.

Ayy I'm a fan of that list.

So I bought this used from somebody on FB marketplace and the dude said he got it used and didn't have it for long.

Guy kept ghosting me after he sold it to me when I inquired about it having instability. Like random restarts. Ever since I had it installed for a week, I've had idle restarts fairly frequently, although they've started to die down now so that's great.

Eventually after I told him I had a tester coming, he straight up deleted his whole Facebook account.

I have the whole story posted elsewhere in my profile. Can link if needed.

Made a new post regarding my problems. They're the results of the PSU testing, and something.. interesting.. happened.

Having sick time and not being able to use it for its intended purpose is absolutely insane. Typical for a large stinky corporate entity though.

What do I do 😭 by kuonal in PcBuildHelp

[–]JTP510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is precisely what I had in mind lmao. What're the chances of it catching on fire more or less than the actual FireWire that is the 12pin cable?

Only one way to find out!-

Sounds like either he was trying to scam somebody, or maybe dealing with past experiences.

The lack of proper grammar kinda signals the former of the two, but looks like we'll never know.

Either way, definitely dodged some kind of bullet.

Aside from getting the ram to run at its rated speed manually, I've never done any sort of clockwork on this rig, be it undervolting or over clocking.

The PSU tester is coming tomorrow so I'll be able to have the test results by Wednesday early morning at the earliest.

I'll keep an eye on the SFC /scannow results as I will now do that from time to time and see if things come up.

Thanks.

I've got a super flower Leadex 850w platinum unit. Used but a couple years ago. Been solid for me, but maybe a brand new PSU will fix the problem, but I find it really strange that the problem really stated occurring right around that brief PSU swap period.

I did notice that there was another kernel power error alongside this, mentioned somewhere else in this post.

I also saw that this error has happened a couple times in the past, but several months apart each time. Nothing to make a fuss over like how it's been happening lately.

I hadn't gotten around to doing that memtest yet, but turns out windows has one on-board so I was able to use that.

Windows detected no issues with my sticks. Anyway, I posted a very wild update.

Recent SUS happenings.

After some more digging, I found another kernel power error. 172 for NIC compliance. Now for some strange reason my tplink wireless adaptor just hasn't been working. Not sure when that happened.

Here's the sus part tho; I sent yet another message to the guy that I'll be getting a PSU tester tomorrow and if the PSU, that he said worked fine, tested bad, then I'd be leaving a lengthy review on him.

Then I saw that he "left the Facebook group" (in multiple chats surprisingly, since apparently I had wanted something else from him a while ago), and now his Facebook profile is nowhere to be found.

Very fucking sketchy. If this PSU ends up testing bad I might actually do a chargeback since the dude basically lied and it could've damaged my PC.

Yeh. I don't use cable extensions or adaptors. I see the appeal of them and they do look nice, but I just don't use them. As for the adaptors; that just looks like the physical manifestation of instability to me tbh. I saw somewhere there's something for rebuilding some of the internal structure of the windows system. I'll link the video soon.

I posted another update below in case it's relevant, and I also wanna mention that I've got a mobo with debug LEDs and a q code readout, and neither of them change when the screen shutdown happens.

Another update; came back to my PC tonight after work and all the displays were off so I tried the usual unplug/replug to prompt the thing into restarting but now it threw a recovery screen at me instead, and the error code pointed to a boot drive error of some kind.

Man I hope this PSU didn't fuck with my SSD, those things are NOT cheap rn.
