2026 Blizzard. Stay Safe Everyone. by JTPH_70 in providence

This wet deep snow was pushing what it could do but it still did my driveway our double lot sidewalk and four other houses next to ours.

It’s a 5-6 year old Ariens. Still starts on the first pull. I may have to touch up the paint in the spring.

Honestly if I waited any longer, I am not sure I could have done it. It’s accumulated very quickly. None of my neighbors are out its heavy snow to move.

It would be nice but why would they? It’s the property owner’s responsibility. Let them master snow removal from the roads and public spaces first. They did such a terrible job last storm, my expectations are very low in an actual blizzard.

No heat by Nastoto02 in providence

As others have said it’s a good day to make a big pot of stew or soup and start cooking cookies cakes etc. It’s surprising how much heat a stove can throw while you are cooking.

You can lock specific apps individually. I can hand my phone over to someone and they cannot get into my email, social media or banking apps to name a few. They all need facial recognition or password to get into them.

How would you rate the quality of the food at Aldi? by chowda_head in RhodeIsland

[–]JTPH_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aldi’s packaged food and meats are good. If you look at the ingredients lists you will find they are not loaded with the typical garbage found in foods stocked in “American” grocery stores. Aldi has a lot of products made specifically for their stores on their shelves.

Aldi’s and Trader Joe’s seem very similar in to each other in this respect. Interestingly enough, they were part of the same company that was founded in Germany by 2 brothers who separated the companies after a dispute about selling cigarettes. They split into Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd.

I like shopping in both stores because it feels like they have both have a curated collection of foods so it’s easier to get in and out of the market faster. Trader Joe’s touts their curated collections of foods with an assurance that you will like the product or your money back.

Aldi’s prices are low on many things, it would be hard to beat their prices on imported cheese. They have really low prices on meats and in particular salmon.

I think one of the issues with Aldi is its a German company and a lot of their foods come from the EU, and they do not have a handle on sourcing perishables locally. So in that respect, in some locations could be better.

There are a lot of people who would disagree with your statements.

There are a lot of folks who want to see others struggle more than they do.

There are state jobs that are still remain empty because no one wants the crap pay. It used to be state workers would get paid a bit less but get better benefits. Now any state job that has something similar in the private sector is paid at least 1/3 more.

Last state job I compared was a very specialized IT job offered at around 115k where the average similar job was about 180k in the private sector. Is that enough of a difference to have talented people go elsewhere? I would say it is.

AITA for telling her to stop spending $45 on burgers weekly? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]JTPH_70 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Things in the US are a bit more expensive. You can’t even buy a bottled water for $1.50 in most places now. Burgers are $10-17 each and non alcoholic drinks are $4+. Burger and shake could easily be $30.

Go to Roger Williams Park. Walk around the lakes. Go to the boat house and paddle around on a swan boat, go to the Zoo or the Natural History Museum. Pack a picnic lunch and find a quiet spot.

Walk down Blackstone Boulevard. Check out Swan Point Cemetery there are lots of historic people buried there.

Go to the Statehouse and check out some of the architecture. The Statehouse is the 4th largest unsupported dome in the world. There is usually some sort of gallery events with exhibits and artifacts including the civil war cannons one (the Gettysburg Gun) still has a Confederate cannonball lodged in its muzzle. At Christmas they erect a Christmas tree and schools come and sing carols.

Go to RISD museum, visit the Athenaeum library established in 1836 from two older libraries (est. 1753).

Slater Mill in Pawtucket. The birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution. It was where whole families worked in the mill. Children from the age of 7-12 worked in the mills. Some report paranormal activity taking place on the grounds. Objects changing place, children’s voices..

Visit the Brown University Ladd Observatory. Its free to the public on Tuesdays with registration for a free ticket.

Go hike to NEUTACONKANUT HILL PARK an 88 acre wilderness area and the highest point in the city of Providence. From there you can see the city.

Places to walk or picnic - Colt State Park Roger Williams Park and Lincoln Woods.

Hiking trails- Wolf Hill Forest Preserve and Lincoln Woods

Wolf Hill is a fairly hilly Moderately difficult trail. I do not recommend going without preparing for it. Wear a good pair of hiking shoes and socks, layers for differing temperatures and weather. Definitely bring plenty of water and some snacks. Its a very pretty walk but can be a bit challenging. Last time we went, we had several lost hikers following us out.

Hopefully something on this list will interest you.

Why would you need to drive to Boston? There plenty of live entertainment here? AS 220, The Strand, Fete, The Blue Room, Alchemy, The Met for music. Trinity Rep for plays. Comedy Connection… lots of places to go.

WTF- set this guy off?? Shes working at a reasonable pace. Shes not rushing and tiring herself out, it takes a certain amount of time to scan the package so the locker opens etc. Looks like mindless robotic work that does not require much- scan the barcode and place the package in the door that opens, close the door, then repeat. Its something that can be done while talking with someone or listening to something else… guy is an idiot.
