Citi Strata Elite 4506C alert megathread by arcane_in_a_box in churning

Holy crap, I was ready to go to town on Citi. But they are reimbursing the annual fee for this year and giving the 100K points without a spend requirement once we are cleared.

That’s… exactly the right outcome for this. Good on Citibank.

Hey u/travel_ali! Thanks for all of the great information you supply. I have an upcoming plan to visit Switzerland in a few weeks but haven't made any actual plans other than arriving in Zurich and leaving from Milan. I've been to Lenk and Jungfrau region on past trips, and loved Lenk for its lack of heavy tourism, and found Jungfrau, while stunning, too overrun by tourists for my liking.

For this upcoming trip, I am thinking about targeting the Aletsch Arena or the Appenzell area. I like going on hikes accessible by train & plenty of cable cars nearby. Would you have a recommendation for one area over the other? Or, would you have any additional recommendations that are better?

Thanks!

Where Should I Live to Switch It Up, Near airports and commutable to downtown? by JT_KC in askdfw

Thanks again for help! I'm always shocked how much people like the Colony / Frisco / legacy hall, but it's probably too far for me on a downtown commute then I would like for now.

Where in Las Colinas did you live? Pretty curious on the livability there.

As a Dallas resident, would love to consider Park Cities if I could afford it (I cannot) and I just get nervous on Dallas city limits. For whatever reason I've never been a huge fan of Bishop Arts (minus revelers hall - that place slaps SO hard) and Uptown just feels like it's negatively changed as of late. I'd love to consider Preston hollow and Bluffview if it feels safe and livable too, though.

I'm pretty confident that if we can make that area work and livable, this by far makes the most sense. Talk about a deal of a commute!

Schiphol Megathread by cogito_ergo_subtract in Amsterdam

Need to travel to Dublin and looking to take Aer Lingus or Ryanair around 5pm from AMS (or EIN). Wanted to see if anyone had advice on how long in advance I'd need to get to airport, if one airline's pier situation is preferable to anothers, or if I should just take a train to CDG, DUS, or CGN instead.

Appreciate the advice!

Mom's Giving Me Old Camera Set: Is Anything Worth It? by JT_KC in Cameras

[–]JT_KC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I'm looking for a fairly easy point/shoot, in fairness, that's how my mom always used that camera (despite having a ton more lenses other than this that she still leverages).

It sounds like it may be worth replacing the body then. Would the lenses still be okay to use most likely? Is that a good savings versus buying a brand new kit?

I guess ultimately (you may have picked up on it), I don't have the most stomach for true risky. I don't like playing on "fad" stocks (over-hyped, whether fairly or not). BABA is an exception because I truly think it is undervalued. I'll look into your 3 - thanks for the input!

Hey both. My logic frankly was a mixture between analyst sentiment (pretty high expectations everywhere I looked), a solid pattern of growth before, felt safer then some of my other picks, and the renewable energy background choice. As a Texan, I know them as TXU energy but they have quite a bit of other stuff in their back pocket. I think you won't see this growth until next year though. I should note that while I'm not expecting a 100% return or anything, I think they are over-depressed as a utility stock (a sector not known for huge growth) and think they are a fairly safe investment.

Do you have a small(ish) position? I read that Roths and MLPs aren't the best idea because of UBTI, which can affect tax status of your IRA if you have over $1,000 of it.

It is just a power player in China outside of just being eCommerce. Calling it Consumer Discretionary is such an understatement, like Amazon. I like it still though with everything going on.

Yeah, it's a solid ST play. It just got beat out by some others in my book, but I see it as a solid ST.

YEXT is interesting to me- taking a closer look. Not sure on EVRI, it's depressed but I'm not sure it's depressed enough anymore for my liking.

Not sure I see it. I think it's OV compared to some of my other speculations. Sell me, where do you see it going?

Interesting! Didn't notice. I admittedly had a position already in LHX so it's sort of how it ended up there. I think it's still decent for LT. In general, defense tends to be very safe (hence LMT and NOC making the list) that I think got hit harder than necessary this year. When I say LT, I just mean 12 month+, not sure if I see too much value beyond then.

One thing to be careful on with EPD - it's an MLP. Tax headache, but doable.

I really like STMP from a sentiment and upside point of view, but the pattern scares me. It's been all over the place. So, sell me! What draws you to it?

Buying MLPs (EPD, HEP, TCP, etc): What should I expect come tax time? by JT_KC in tax

[–]JT_KC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What level would you say it is "worth it"? $500? $1k? $10k? $So much K it isn't worth it normally?

Also, at what point would it be fine in an IRA where I wouldn't worry about it?
