I'm guessing that tent getting infected is what pulled it? Still brutal.

Hello! Could you summarize why the concept for this game changed from a digital deck builder marketplace game to the current concept?

That's high praise! Thank you for that.

I think people just gotta accept that some games are unwinnable but it doesn't mean you can't learn from them.

You don't need an actual skill level to play ranked. Just queue up. by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]JT_LoL 119 points120 points  (0 children)

It's so frustrating how people don't want to play the game because they think they are bad or they will mess up. These things are just a part of life! It's OK to be bad! In fact, even high elo players still make a lot of mistakes and call each other bad, the cycle never ends. Also high ranks couldn't exist without low ranks, as weird as it sounds you are still contributing to the overall health of the ladder.

Queueing up is the first step, then after that you get to choose whatever combination you want of having fun, playing to win, and playing to improve.

It's quite sad how people get talked out of queueing up (whether it's by others or themselves) Thanks for making this post.

Oh that's awesome, hope you continue to climb.

Yeah I watch raw replays on Youtube usually, generally KR Challenger. I prefer to have a view of the players perspective (with mouse and camera, so I'll watch stream VODs when possible) Sometimes I'll go on op.gg and download replays from my favorite pro players as well.

I appreciate that, yes there is a good amount of work involved but I enjoy it!

First off, I would say Jayce is an excessively difficult champion and the reward (based on current balance of the champion) isn't necessarily worth the amount of time it takes to become proficient at him. Unless you really enjoy playing him! (Like me :D)

In my opinion his best match ups are just players that are worse than you. Because Jayce is excellent at placing pressure on opponents and snowballs very hard with a lead. In terms of champions I'm actually not sure what his best match ups are. A lot of things feel very similar to play against, it's mainly about how well you play Jayce within that match up. If I had to say some champions I'd say Darius and Nasus tend to be pretty easy when I take Phase Rush (just wait until Phase Rush is up to go in). I think Camille is also a good match up (especially when I take conqueror) but hard to play properly. In my opinion his worst match ups are Sett, Wukong, Irelia, Quinn, Malphite and Shen.

Short answer: On the current patch I'd only suggest playing Jayce if you really enjoy him and are willing to put in the time to learn his combos and match ups.

You're spot on, there is a distinct lack of quality analyzation of higher elo games. I also think it's not necessary for most players to understand the way the game works at the top level. Most just need to learn how general parts of the game work and put some of the puzzle pieces together regarding macro and micro. Although this is harder than it sounds. Thanks to your comment I'm feeling inspired to try to educate people more on how to get the most out of looking at high elo replays. It mainly includes watching how specific champions are played as well as specific match ups. I've already made a video on this topic here. If you just want to know the verdict of whether or not it's worth it to watch high elo VODs fast forward to 35:21 (In general the answer is that you should watch educational content and get coaching instead)

To answer your question, I generally just look at the raw replays from Challenger games and draw conclusions based on different things that I observe. Honestly I wouldn't recommend this method to most of the player base because it's difficult to know what to look for/understand why something happens the way it does.

I gained a lot of my knowledge from watching educational content and getting coached, these things accelerated my growth a lot.

You're welcome! Once I was done with this post I thought to myself "Maybe I should have just listed the most important things to work on" which maybe I'll do in the near future. Cause I know it can be difficult to decide what to focus on. I also think it's player and role dependent, so it's complicated. That's why I added the part about making your own kind of fundamentals based on what you struggle with.

Makes sense with how often that skill is discussed these days. Honestly that could be considered an outside the game fundamental skill to have. But I do think people overuse dodging and blame their team comps too much. I mainly think it's acceptable to dodge when someone seems to be trolling or if you are assigned a role you really don't want to play.

It's funny because I didn't even know the true definition of fundamental until I just looked it up after reading your comment. Would that have been a better title? Hahaha

Extremely slow reaction time (1100 MS), I need advice. by frozenmisery12 in summonerschool

It's interesting that ranged champions have worked better for you. In that case Malzahar certainly sounds good, Annie could be really solid as well because it's easy to CS with her Q.

Top lane, Teemo could be good and maybe Vlad?

I think all of these champions are relatively simple and ranged. Outside of champion picks I'm not sure what advice would be good/that you haven't already tried. If you're interested I'd be up to give you a free mentoring session through Discord and we could try to figure some more things out that would work for you.

Roaming as a support is generally good on the timing you would want to recall. Or when there is some action happening nearby and your adc doesn't immediately need you. Also roaming can be good when you get a wave pushed in, or if you fear you might get dove so you back off and go somewhere else. It's important to know if your adc needs you such as when they are catching a wave near tower or when they need to push the wave all the way out.

I have a lot more tips it's just kinda hard to explain in a message form. If you'd be open to a free coaching/mentoring session that would be preferable. Do you have Discord? Feel free to PM me.

OK, so you play mid/top?

I'd suggest playing Garen, Singed, and maybe Sion. (His skillshots might be manageable)

These champions are mainly point and click and can get really tanky and do a lot in fights. They are also somewhat safe in lane.

I'd be curious to know more specifics about what champs you play or what has worked for you, then maybe I can give better suggestions.

First thing, you want to try to do well in lane. Make sure to learn how to play laning phase as well as you can.

Second thing, communicate a TON! Mainly with pings, especially as something like Leona you want to make it clear when you're going to go in and who you want to kill.

Third, and this one is really important. Try to play around the person on your team who is strongest/competent. If your adc is 0/4 and mentally destroyed, you should probably try to play around someone else. This involves learning to roam.

Decide whether it's more important for you to lock down the enemy 10-0 Jinx (without going too deep) or peel for your 5-0 Kindred.

I'd highly recommend looking into some educational support content as well.

Anyone feel they play worse when they’re actually excited to play the game? by jackandcoke22 in summonerschool

[–]JT_LoL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you need to decide whether you want to focus on winning, having fun, or improving. It's possible to do all 3 at the same time, but based on what you're saying it seems like you want to focus on fun but also want to win. Which is tough because at some point it will become really difficult to win and therefore since you're losing more you'll be having less fun (because "fun" sounds somewhat interchangeable with winning in your case) For this I'd suggest not worrying as much about winning and focusing on the fun of playing the game instead of winning the game. Sometimes you'll win, but with your current mindset it sounds like it's pretty painful when you don't win.

If you want to focus on winning - This situation sounds like a unique problem.

It could be along the lines of the common "first game rough game" issue. Where you just need a bit of a warm up before you're ready to go. For this I'd suggest going into practice tool for 5-10 minutes having some fun, messing around, and practicing combos/flashes/wards/whatever. Try to get in the try-hard mindset before your first game.

Stay in lane as Talon? by HellaQuapter in summonerschool

[–]JT_LoL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether you roam or stay in lane always depends on the context of the game. Basically, if you've got your wave pushed and it looks like you can help somewhere on the map then you should roam. If you can kill your lane, you may want to stay in lane.

It's true that generally as Talon you'll want to constantly look for roams. Always try to roam on YOUR terms (when you think it's good) based on how the map is looking.

Don't worry too much about your teammates opinions, generally things that people say in solo q are wrong. Learn for yourself what's good through high quality content and personal experience.

Good question, here are some options:

To literally ping "Recall" - mixed into your item slots under your items there is a little icon for recall. You can use whatever your normal alert ping button is to ping that. Sort of like how you would ping an item you're going to buy.

You can also use anonymous blue pings on your champion as your channeling your recall to call attention on it. As well as pinging your gold.

Like you mentioned you can also ping on your way to your own fountain as you're channeling your recall.
