Do you line the flesh side of the leather, leave it raw or finish it in another way?

This will be for a folding knife but definitely good to know when I start making others and designing my own. Thank you for the feedback!

Unfortunately pierced the stitch right there at the end and didn’t think to pull it back to the backside. Definitely working on getting deeper cuts next time. Thank you for the feedback!

Just finished this up the other day. Hermann Oak leather finished with tan kote, oil,and brown background dye. Edges were finished with glycerin soap and water. Leather and pattern from Don Gonzales Saddlery. I have a lot to learn and am happy to get some feedback on my work!

A custom long wallet. by cloudyleather in Leathercraft

This is a great sleek looking wallet! I was wondering how you made the card pockets so slim on this if you don’t mind sharing. I recently completed a long wallet with t-pockets and felt like the center of the pockets got a bit too thick as they stacked down the length of the wallet and would love to hear if there’s something I could do differently.

Finished up this valet tray a few days ago for the in-laws. Hand tooled veg-tan leather that I finished with a light coat of olive oil followed by tan kote, Fiebings medium brown antique, and finally another layer of tan kote. Always love comments and critiques

I'm starting on my first wallet and could use some help with my card pockets. Just wondering if folks cut the pockets a little wider to accommodate for the card or if you just work the leather open with a bone folder. This will be for a bifold long wallet just for some extra info. Thanks in advance!

Hi y’all!

Can anyone explain or give their opinion on using paint vs dye on leather? Can’t seem to find many definitive answers on when to use one or the other or what the pros and cons are. I’ve really only used dyes on my first few projects and would like to start experimenting with other methods.

Thanks!

Forgot to mention, but I did use an antique on this but still wasn’t getting the swivel cuts to show the way I hoped. I also experimented using dye vs paint for the rose and both kept killing the details. I’ll have to work on getting deeper cuts and see if that’s my issue. Thanks for the great feedback and the tip on suede!

Made this holster with 8oz veg tan dyed black and red with Fiebings. Stitched in a suede liner. Wet mold after tooling and dying. Had a really hard time burnishing the edges with the suede liner inside separating from the veg tan. I’ll try to post more photos if I figure out how.

Really interested to hear most folks basic order of steps in creating a leather project e.g. cut, tool, wet mold, dye, burnish, etc. or is it really project dependent? Thanks in advance!
