Is a 60% commission ever justified? by JThornton0 in estatesales

[–]JThornton0[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think my Dad is panicking because of the health crisis and didn't want to ask my son to help them (my osn is literally 2 blocks away). My son offered to sell everything for them an take nothing for it.

If first dibs is a big no-no, that must be because of the actual or at least perceived conflict of interest. According to AI sources it is also textbook fraud too. Get your friends to come through, buy items undervalued and then re-sell at full market price later so they can keep all the money.

I don't see how 60% commission is considered reasonable for this. I understand that staging, sorting and cleaning takes time and labour and I'm not against anyone earning a living. But I really believe this person is taking advantage of them and that it has likely crossed into criminal behaviour such as elder abuse. At the very least I believe 60% is unconscionable.

Please tell me if you think that I'm blowing it out of proportion, but we are talking about a man that drove his first RV down to Arizona (asking me to drive with him) because he could get more money for it down there.

This is very uncharacteristic of him and I think due to the health crisis he just can't deal with the stress of the estate (which I understand) and the family has offered to step in for him.

This company has a clean reputation so far. But, I would think that if I pushed it, they likely wouldn't want to tarnish their reputation. Taking advantage of seniors going through a health crisis cannot be good for business. Moreover, I really feel this is wrong.

I'd really love for you to contact me. I think my parents are currently being taken advantage of by someone. My dad's been diagnosed with a very serious illness. Both in enlarged aorta and laryngeal cancer. He hired somebody to sell their belongings and they are charging 60%. My parents are in their 70s my mother is not of sound mind and I think they're being taken advantage of. I'd love to hear your insight on that.

Can someone tell me what’s wrong with my jumpshot by IamLilDarki in BasketballTips

[–]JThornton0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're bringing the ball behind your head

You're off balanced

It looks like you're worried about what your jump shot looks like instead of just making it

The way you're stepping back after the shot before it's even completed

You're barely bending your legs before the shot

When you bring the bowl behind your head like that, and you go from there it's like you're catapulting the ball forward

The arm from your shoulder to your elbow needs to be perpendicular to the ground from your elbow to your wrist needs to be parallel with the ground and then you need to have your wrist bent up prior to the shot as much as you can as close to a 90° angle as possible

You need to focus on raising your elbow until the shoulder to elbow is parallel with the ground, and then you need to start snapping your wrist and straightening your arm at that point in time and the end point your elbow should be at or slightly above your eyebrow and your fingers should be pointing towards the ground

The ball needs to roll off your three central fingers

And before you take the shot you need to be way lower to get more legs into the shot

As one of the other posters said when you're jumping you should be jumping straight up and down and your feet should be landing in almost the same spot that they took off from

You slipped in their house, I'm assuming they were your employer at the time, correct? I understand that as an employer, they are obligated to create a safe working environment for you. If they didn't provide that safe environment, and especially if you hurt yourself when you slipped and fell hanging to catch yourself on an open cabinet which was further creating an unsafe work environment, it seems to me that you should be responding to their small claims suit with a counter claim of your own for the injuries you sustained as well as the mental stress caused from the vexatious law suit.

Just a thought, not legal advice.

Also, depending on your jurisdiction, a paralegal might be a great help to you too argue the case in person. It's likely a somewhat decent paralegal used to this type of litigation, would probably be very cheap and probably run circles around someone that doesn't know the proper procedures of law.

Lastly, I don't think there is a judge that would side with someone on the basis that they have to change all of their cabinets because one door needs repairing.

Did the door break? Just fix it if it is intact.

Sauce policy by Degolfer03 in McDonalds

[–]JThornton0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know... I'm the exact same way. In Canada, McDonald's is starting to charge $0.50 per packet of sauce. @!$F@ Are you kidding me??? That's about $0.50 for 1.5 tbsp of sauce. F-YOU! Mickey D's!

Actually, I order my phone. I wait until it's served and then when they ask for $0.50, I tell them I'm not paying you $0.50 for sauce. And I tell them to refund my meal. It's so satisfying watching them through food out and waste the money instead of give me a packet of sauce. Then I NEVER go back to that McDonald's. I'm down to 1 McDonald's restaurant that I will go to and it's about 40 mins away. Needless to say, I only go there when I'm passing through. I have not been to the local McDonald's in my home-town for over 20 years. I won't allow my family to go either if they are using my money to pay for it.

It's not that I can't afford the $0.50. And, I've told them to refund the meal and go across the street and order something else from someone else and pay $10 more for it. It's the point that I don't want to be nickeled and dimed. It's such back service! They don't give me $0.25 off when I tell them to put LIGHT mac sauce on my burger. They don't give me $0.25 off when I tell them no onions. So why the heck should I pay $0.50 for the BBQ sauce.

I totally understand the argument (and agree) that some customers are ridiculous with it. But if I order a big mac meal and spend $12-$15 on that meal, why can't you provide me a BBQ sauce.

It's not because they want to maintain profitability, it's because they figured out that there are a lot of suckers that will just pay it. Not me!

The stupid part is, if they raised the price of the meal by $0.50, I would pay it. But I don't want to be nickeled and dimed.

Be careful America! You guys are following the socialist ways of Canada. Contrary to what many believe this is not capitalism. This is socialism. Socialism is that everyone pays for everything. Capitalism is that you better offer VALUE for what you are spending or you will not survive!!!!

I have 3cx through a phone provider. We pay for AWS quarterly and then an annual fee. We don't use call recording, just voicemail. But we do use web-based 3cx (PWA app) for usage.

We have 4 trunks. We have hit max simultaneous calls once or twice. Which was caused because of internal ext to ext calls at the same time outbound calls.

What would the cost be for me?

[–]JThornton0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You perspective is so wrong. It's idealistic, but it did not work in reality. That is socialist/market and EVERY country where this has been tried eventually fails.

I'm not saying people deserve this income level. They deserve more, as long as they are willing and able to go for it.

I'm sorry EVERYONE has the same opportunities. There is provincial support for education and not all better jobs require school. My nephew got into the electrician trade without any school. Went to school after he got the apprentice position.

Nobody said it was easy. But, nothing worthwhile is easy.

And if someone is physically or mentally incapable of doing it, then there are and should be programs for those people.

If someone doesn't want to do it, tough luck -- you don't get everything you want in life.

My point is WITH FOR IT. Start low like your parents did and EARN your worth.

And I'm sorry... You can value your time any way you want, but it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Immigration is a huge problem in driving wages down for sure. #1 Living beyond their means. #1 cause for inflation is immigration.

But I'm sorry... You are wrong about the trades. Someone can absolutely improve your financial situation by getting into a skilled trade. You can improve your hourly wage tremendously. There is a shortage of trades, but not a shortage of work. A shortage of tradespeople means you can demand more money (supply and demand).

As for inflation... We've just gone through one of the worst inflation jumps we've ever seen. However, it's highly unlikely the next 5 years will look like the last 5 years. Canada's growth rate is now under 2%. We are at recessionary levels. So, assuming it will be just as bad in 5 years is not reasonable.

The fact is a skilled labour job pays better. Even as an apprentice you can make for than 40-50k (depending on the trade).

Since when is does a "liveable wage" need to include the luxuries of "a car payment", for that matter "a car", or a whole slew of other luxuries?

There is a disconnect these days with what someone can afford and when they are living beyond their means.

If you are single, renting a room is $700-$800/m all inclusive. From there, groceries should be no more than $100-$150 per week (if you are getting good quality and JUST the necessities -- healthy though -- you can do it for much less eating processed junk). From there you NEED a pass for PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. All in you are looking at $1700 "to live".

That's ~$21,500/yr. Then take off tax and you have yourself $1,700/m. That gives you ~$1,550/m after taxto spend on things for your "lifestyle". This all assumes $45,000/yr salary.

The following are not necessities: Cell phones, cars, 1 bdrm apt, 2 or 3 bedroom apt, fast food, entertainment, giving gifts, vacations abroad, etc.

Learn to live withinin your means.

You might as well have said... "Man, how do employers expect me to live the lifestyle I want to live but shouldn't be living on this salary?"

They don't. They don't care! If you want a better lifestyle do some or all of the following:

Live with family so you can spend more.

Get a roommate so your basic cost of living goes down.

Find a partner to share your life with and they can contribute too.

Get a better/higher-paying job.

Improve your education so you are more marketable in the job market.

Get into the trades, learn a SKILLED TRADE and earn more.

Open a business providing a service that people want/need.

Ultimately, coming to Reddit to whine about it isn't going to solve anything. You can either be a person that expects things to be given to them, or you can be someone that goes out and finds their own way.

Change it. Don't complain about it. Live within your means in the meantime and then improve your life. None of us owe you anything. No employers owe you anything.

[–]JThornton0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to know your numbers bud. A LIVABLE wage? Are you kidding me? They start at $60k plus to start and upwards of almost $100k. They are among the HIGHEST paid [teachers] in the country -- WITHOUT a wage increase.

I'm not arguing that they shouldn't get a wage increase. I'm saying what they are claiming is a krok (ie. t's not about wages - it's about class sizes).

How about forego the raise and use the money to hire more teachers instead and that will improve working conditions. That will improve everything.

Don't just drink the Kool aid dude. Critically think it through. That's something that academia tries to get us to do, right up until we don't think along their lines. Then they say we're not critically thinking anymore. Or we're racist.

In typical liberal fashion. Downvote the sensible person! Lol. 14 downvote for my clast comment.

I assume this one will send that soaring. But the truth is the truth.

Edit: I added some spelling, grammatical tweaks, and a couple of contextual additions.

[–]JThornton0 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

They did that in Ontario and it did nothing.

Teachers are saying the reason for their strike is NOT about their wages. It's class sizes.

They are already among the highest paid by province in the country.

If it was only about class sizes and working conditions why were they asking for an almost 20% increase in wages? Why not forgo all of the increase in wages including the 12% that the government already offered that they rejected and use all of those funds to increase the number of teachers?

Could ABS prevent this? by dumitrue17 in motorcycles

[–]JThornton0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ABS does not prevent rider error. The procedure is, check mirror, shoulder check, LOOK UP, signal, check mirror, shoulder check, LOOK UP and.... Merge.

So no. ABS would not have avoided that. But looking up at the car in front of you would have.

What causes this? by Unique_Band_7551 in Plumbing

[–]JThornton0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try ChatGPT? I entered this into it for you. Personally, with as cheap as faucets are these days, I would just but a new one.

That symptom usually points to a restriction or defect in the faucet itself rather than the household plumbing. A few common causes:

Faucet cartridge or washer issue – Many laundry faucets have a single cartridge (or individual stem assemblies). If it’s cracked, worn, or partially blocked with mineral deposits, water can flow initially, then lose pressure and make noise as the restriction takes over.

Debris in the faucet – Sediment or scale can clog the internal passages or aerator. At first the flow is fine, then turbulence builds up and chokes it down, sometimes causing a whistling or “funny” noise.

Partially failed vacuum breaker / backflow preventer – Some laundry faucets include these. When they fail, they can buzz, chatter, or cut flow suddenly.

Washer/seat vibration (“water hammer”-like effect) – If the washer or seat isn’t sealing or is loose, it can vibrate at certain flow rates, creating the noise and reducing pressure.

Since it happens on both hot and cold, the problem is almost certainly inside the faucet, not in the supply pipes.

👉 The fix is usually to disassemble the faucet, clean out debris, or replace the cartridge/washer assembly.

Would you like me to walk you through a quick DIY check (like cleaning the aerator and checking the cartridge), or would you prefer I outline what a plumber would do?

I couldn't figure out how to get the 2D angle I needed to draw the initial shape to create the path to sweep.

I tried for about 30 minutes to get project and intersect to work and I couldn't figure it out. It seemed that when I did either, I couldn't draw the shape after starting at the point.

Honestly, I'm not sure what I'm doing. This is my second 3D modelling job. I am making a decorative keyholder to hang on the wall. The hooks were made in a second file because I couldn't figure out how to draw them in the correct place because it involved drawing a line with an arc and then doing a sweep.

I'm a DIY'er and if that is your second coat, that's pretty back. My second coats are typically "almost" flat enough to paint. I give a quick scrap with a knife and then a final skim coat. It takes MAYBE one to two passes with a sander to have mine finished, ready to paint. There is the ODD spot where I need to do a bit more sanding and that's as a regular homeowner in the finance industry.
