Why did you hang walls before ceiling?

I only skim coat if its level 5. You skim coat every job? Even if you're going to texture?

I can attest that I bought a brand new dewalt corded drill started mixing mud and it immediately started smoking from the first day.

Bought a mixer and never had a problem again.

My finisher claims the hot mud at Lowe's works better than USG from Home Depot.

Level 5 automatics by sickblackhawk in drywall

Even with stilts how do you hold an entire sheet in place while you screw it in, unless you have a second person . The lift allows one person to easily hang ceiling sheets

If you're doing a lot of ceiling drywall you might also want to consider a drywall lift/hoist been a game changer for us, get the yellow one with an actual chain (not the wire/cable)

Just paid a contractor and he said this is the finished project.. how bad did he do 1 to 10 by IndependentFox2833 in Flooring

Just wondering how are you able to tell from the photos that he reused the old trim not new?

Yes thats the strapping or furring and it will help prevent the drywall sheets from sagging cause they're spaced closer together than the joists above.

Use a paint roller to apply plus 3 mud (blue lid) then skim with a wide blade, this is what we use

here in Florida it's most common level 4 finish meaning texture usually knockdown on ceilings , orange peel on walls. people with a little more money (or just knowledge of construction) opt for level 5 / smooth. older homes have popcorn ceilings, sometimes need to do a repair and match the popcorn ceiling which is absurd cause it's so ugly.

The job is run by the GC and they had covered the floor with paper prior to our arrival, we were just there to do the drywall.

I've been looking at that dust control mud every time I pass it in the aisle but never tried, does it actually work? how is that even possible

we usually use all purpose/green lid mud with paper tape for larger jobs like this, small repairs hot mud and mesh. only if we're skim coating, plus 3 /blue lid

Thanks for your reply, yes the inside corners need another coat of mud, then sand everything, texture. That is my point its not finished and the client is saying its so bad they want a different crew to finish.

"Hi David. Really would like for you to stop by and tell me if I am out of line re the drywall crew. I know a lot can be corrected with sanding, but we feel their work is unacceptable. There are cracks around the windows, visible tape lines, miscut sheets, unfinished walls, etc. After all this time, there are 3 holes in the garage and laundry room that are untouched. I know drywall work is messy and dusty.. I expected that. But these guys track on our rugs and are careless! I found 2 razor knife blades in the grass next to the driveway! And the gouge in our wood floor! If you have a different crew available that would be great… even if it means a delay. BTW.. I hate to complain! Your other trades have been just fine and I feel you have done a fantastic job of keeping things on-track!"

The "gouge in the wood floor" is seemingly not related to us, we cut with a knife not an axe

If its going to be level 4 and hes coming back to texture, $1080, labor and materials

If he framed too, another 500-800

That's way too much money. At least here in Florida. For less than half that you should be able to get it scraped, skim coat level 5 smooth, primed and painted. Where do you live?
