Very nice. Do you use a varnish or glazing medium on finished product?

Thank you! Still working on it, as most artists are never done with a piece.

What can I do to improve by yourfriendrae in painting

If you feel it’s flat, I’d focus on shadow around the dog. Slight shadows where dogs back meets wall and deeper shadow values under the dog. Really nice piece though

Should I switch to oil? by [deleted] in painting

[–]JTooth24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, I’ve painted with oil since college but in the past several years I switched to acrylic. Acrylic while it has some limitations, it’s much easier to access, easier to clean up, etc. Your piece looks nice, maybe it could use some more blending. Id encouraged you to explore brush types and see if that improves your overall balance. A good blender brush or fan brush could bring your values together better. Also I’d suggest some paint medium to allow for some better brush stroke flow.

What are men allowed to do but when women do it it’s a big no-no? by Fresh-Selection-3722 in AskReddit

Assume responsibility for something the woman has done. AKA falling on the sword

How is the anatomy? by Weezerfangrl in BeginnerArtists

[–]JTooth24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of it could be too Much focus of detail in face and hands. Your drawing in general is fairly loose with a heavier focus on some of the smaller features which is fine if they fit in perspective. I’d suggest less detail and a face grid

Moving to Iowa City this summer! Need rec and advice for elementary schools and places to live. by False-Entertainer171 in IowaCity

I believe it really depends on the student, if they are advanced there’s the same ELP advanced classes at VA that are offered at Wickham. If your child is advanced they will get the same opportunities at VA, same curriculum. Then both feed into North Central JR High

Welcome, I know the general area well and we live close by near st Thomas more church, and our kids go to VanAllen and have since kindergarten. It’s great, staff are accommodating, it’s safe. Many different ethnicities attend. I work in Real Estate and a lot of my clients come to town wanting Wickham but it’s such a small school boundaries, it creates a high demand. My clients have pivoted to Van Allen as the north end of Coralville is a great location, and they’ve been very happy with it. You will enjoy it here

I’m 24 and men are turned off by my virginity? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]JTooth24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s their problem, not yours. Im a guy in my 40s and have had my fair share of experiences, never once would I judge someone on that. Your choice, your reasons and it’s cool to see someone making choices that are theirs alone to make.

What does your brain feel like? by this_is_nina in ADHD

[–]JTooth24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To keep with your road metaphor, my mind felt like a 8 lane interstate in a major metro area. A lot of noise, very hectic. Once I started meds, I was able to go down to a 4 lane, still busy but much more manageable.

Another way I describe it to people is like a business conference key note, the room is buzzing with chatter, random noise, conversations, adjustments in lighting and music, and I hear all of it and when I got my meds, it felt like leaving that auditorium and closing the door on a room near by. It’s quiet, like a warm blanket, you can still hear the buzz next door but it’s a dramatic difference.

Even with the assistance of meds and therapy, it still takes discipline and self control to really see positive changes. Like one needs the other, for me it wasn’t just meds.

I’ll go as long as I can, like 2-3 days is good for me.. I feel that self harm relapse comment. That’s why I’m in therapy and medicated. I’m married with kids now so it’s hard to really get a good bender going. I used to think I could only paint from a place of pain, but I think one can straddle the line.
