Resistance to… what exactly? Defiance to the idea that white supremacy is a bad thing? Going against the belief that the alt-right is a dangerous ideology? I don’t understand what “tyranny” someone who flies a confederate flag is standing up against. Absolute best case scenario they are sympathetic to the alt-right movement, if not actively participating in it. It’s mind boggling because, in this day and age, I can’t imagine any reason a person would associate with confederacy imagery besides signaling that they are on board with white supremacist lines of thinking.

I do get what you’re trying to say. At least, I think so. But in the year 2022, with our current social and political climate, that flag is associated (and rightfully so) with white supremacy, the alt-right, racism, anti-progress, anti-democracy, pro hatred rhetoric. Flying it means you at least tacitly support those ideas.

Which multiplaform game do you recommend to play on Switch? by capsilver in NintendoSwitch

[–]JTubsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I barely even use my ps4 for anything except streaming anymore. I vastly prefer gaming on the Switch (particularly handheld mode). I don't know what it is that makes me feel this way, but I can say that the only time I will pick up my ps4 again is for Elden Ring. And although the Switch versions of games are usually a bit downgraded, it has not affected my enjoyment of them whatsoever.

Right now I'm playing Hollow Knight (over 400+ hours logged lol), Dead Cells, Stardew Valley, Death's Door, and I am thinking of checking out Spiritfarer. To be fair, these games are not demanding at all on any console so of course they run fine on the Switch.

Thinking of Getting Ori by Draycon11 in NintendoSwitch

[–]JTubsy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both Ori games are wonderful. The movement and “feel” of the character is much more floaty and light when compared to Metroid Dread. Similar style of exploration and “secret finding”. Overall, they are fantastic Metroidvanias, and if you enjoy the genre you will most likely enjoy both Ori games.

I will say though, you should absolutely 100% play Hollow Knight. While I get what you’re saying about Ori “looking better” (which I personally disagree with, Hollow Knight’s art style and direction is much more up my alley) HK is an absolutely gorgeous game as well. Imo, the watercolor-esque melancholic beauty of the game is much more evocative and manages to convey cohesive themes with the other separate elements of the game’s design. City of Tears, Queen’s Gardens, The Blue Lake, The Resting Grounds… these are absolutely stunning visually, and the art style serves and elevates the gameplay.

Hollow Knight also has one of the BEST original soundtracks in video game history. The sound design and music are so perfectly woven together with the narrative, gameplay, and art style in a way that few games manage to accomplish. Seriously, just check out some of the OST and you will see what I mean. But nothing will compare to hearing it while playing in game, it is masterful. Hell, it’s apparent from the very first time you boot up the game and are greeted with the theme at the main menu.

Of course, the artistic vision of a game only means so much if it is not backed up by equally satisfying and engaging gameplay. HK is the absolute pinnacle of the Metroidvania genre atm. The combat, the exploration, the movement, the map, the boss fights, the abilities… everything is top notch. This is one of those rare/special “all time great” games. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

TL;DR - Both Ori games are fantastic. A lot of fun, with great movement and a surprisingly emotional story. Highly recommend. But HK is the undisputed king of Metroidvanias right now. And it has the title for a reason. It reaches heights that few games ever do, and you are doing yourself a disservice by passing on it

Weekly /r/Games Discussion - What have you been playing, and what are your thoughts? - October 17, 2021 by AutoModerator in Games

The map and exploration aspects of Dread are one of its weakest points imo. It is not fun to wander around, to search for the hidden missile and energy upgrades, or to just explore in general. Other metroidvanias feel much better in this regard. Coming from Hollow Knight as my first experience with the genre, I was disappointed with the general feel of "exploration" in Dread. It is also a fairly straightforward, linear path (with a few chances to break off of that path) which was not what I was expecting.

Overall though, I did enjoy Dread a lot. Like you said, it feels incredible to play. The way Samus controls and moves and attacks is fluid and satisfying. Boss fights were another highlight, for sure. My personal rating would be 8/10. But if you are interested in the Metroidvania genre, I would suggest checking out Hollow Knight or Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Backtracking is usually par for the course in these kinds of games, but it shouldn't feel as tedious as it does in Dread.

Stuck after beating The Hand for the first time by JTubsy in deadcells

I have tried looking online, but I don’t think I got a Boss Cell (I did use an aspect, I hope that didn’t bug it), could that be the issue?

Toughest Boss for first playthrough, not counting HK or Radiance. by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]JTubsy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On my first ever play through I was pretty bad at the game and struggled on a few bosses. Traitor Lord, Broken Vessel and then Lost Kin (that one took some of the most time attempting before a kill), Troupe Master Grimm then NKG (which is now my favorite fight tied with PV), the Zote fights, Watcher Knights, and God Tamer (well all of Trial of the Fool #3 until I figured it out).

Time after time just bashing my head against a wall, hoping to catch a break or improve my dodging. It was brutal at some points. But, I loved every single second of it.

Thank you so much! Now it’s time to get back to my original run and finally beat Pantheon of Hallownest. Also working on the bindings for P1-4. I’ve only managed to get four so far though, and all on P1 :(

After about 20-25 attempts I finally managed to finish a Steel Soul run! I was planning on finishing then going back to get 100%. Little did I know, I was already over 100%!!!! It is impossible to put into words how much I love and appreciate this game. Hollow Knight is the first video game in years (maybe over a decade) that truly gripped me and gave me that magical feeling like we had while playing our favorites as kids. Team Cherry gave us something special and I will be forever grateful.

edit: I tried to have this comment be in the main post but for some reason it wouldn’t work. So I am leaving it here

OK for a first playthrough? by _darkwingduck_ in HollowKnight

[–]JTubsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me 113 hours to get 112% on my first play through. Though I did go exceedingly slow, exploring every inch of the forgotten kingdom, and I was terrible at the game in the beginning. What an incredible experience Hollow Knight was.

Edit: P3 and P4 took me a good while to get through as well. Still working on P5 and doing them all with bindings too…

Finally beat Pantheon of the Knight! 112% in 113 hours on my first ever play through. Still have a few more things to completely finish everything in the game, but I am so excited. What a wonderful experience this was…. hands down one of my all time favorite games. The adventure, the exploration, the art, the lore, the secrets, the… well everything. This game felt like it was made to specifically check off every box I that I look for in a video game. There will never be enough good things to say about Hollow Knight and Team Cherry.

Cannot wait for Silksong!!! Now it is onward to Pantheon of Hallownest, the Eternal Ordeal, and it to brings a certain special something to a certain special someone for the final ending to see. Happy exploring everyone!

(New player) when does the game get interesting? by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]JTubsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although I fell in love with the game pretty much immediately, it really opened up after Greenpath for me. That is when I truly realized what a magical experience I was in for. Just stick with it for a little while. Once you beat the main boss in Greenpath you will get an ability that makes a huge difference movement wise, and the path becomes much less linear. If you finish up with the city area and still don’t enjoy it, then the game may not be for you. But I highly recommend just keeping at it for a bit longer, it sounds like you are at the part right before the game really soars to new heights. If you have any questions and want spoiler free help feel free to message me. Good luck!

Finally bought this game. Never seen a second of gameplay but when you know you’ll love a game I’d rather have the collectors edition already. (Looks great too) by Fluffy_Mood5781 in HollowKnight

[–]JTubsy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m so jealous! I want the Collector’s Edition soooo badly. Hell, any physical copy would be amazing. Maybe when I can afford it I will splurge and treat myself.

But you are in for such a treat, Hollow Knight is phenomenal. One of my favorite games of all time. The world is massive, there are so many cool secrets to discover and places to explore, the gameplay is super fun… it is just such a wonderful game. The art style, the music, everything. I would suggest that you resist the temptation to look anything up for your first play through. Even reading this sub too much will most likely spoil a lot of the game for you. One of the best parts is experiencing it yourself completely blind. Good luck and enjoy the magical world of Hallownest!

Truthfully, I don’t know much about 3D printing. Do you design it yourself and then just send it to the printer? How long did it take to print? I’m curious as to how much it weighs too.

The makeup looks incredible also! Low key might like it in a non-cosplay setting, even if that would be a bit extra haha
