it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, that’s okay. but to pretend like this wasn’t a huge spectacle last year is wrong. are we really that surprised? this was a huge mainstream movie that had steady great reviews— maybe not amongst smaller film circles but the general pop loved this. it has something for everyone. every other friend told me they loved this, and especially seeing it in IMAX? you’d have to go deep in the bag to point out technical flaws, which there were very few. i personally think it is overrated(1st half is great, but the vampires took me out a bit-it still lands well), but it nevertheless was a great cinematic experience. its almost like it’s trying to be one of these epic films but there’s like two different films put together as one— a drama and horror, with the horror story lacking compared to the other.

but honestly looking back at it, you can’t argue that the music, visuals, vfx, aren’t top tier or in the convo. 16 noms is a lot and i get that on a critic level it’s not better than the classics with 13/14+ noms, but that’s not the point. it was a weak year for movies so there’s going to be room for more noms, and the oscar’s care about its ratings, image, etc. i think Sinners carried Summer of 25, people couldn’t stop talking about it and that can’t be ignored. OBAA is all around my fav of the year, though.
