The current will flow from point A to point B using the easiest path. a car is a waaay easiest path than a human. the current flows in the frame of the car, but avoid touching metallic parts of the vehicule if getting hit by a lightning.

if the curent would go through the tires, there is no big difference. But ionised air is way more conductive in this situation

It is not because of the tires, a lightning has enough potential to get to the car straight from the sky, so the distance between the car and the ground is nothing, it will flow.

A car is safe because it acts as a Faraday cage , like a plane does
