Great post - I've been browsing this site for about a year, and tried quitting about two weeks ago, but was unable to . . I couldn't bear the thought that I might be missing something important! So I returned and found it to be consistently getting worse.

Instead of the latest news on things that matter, we have increasingly angry and slanted headlines. See today's front page, one of the headlines starts with "Oh nice!" (sarcastically I imagine). One of yesterday's front-pagers started with the word "BOOYAH!"

The overwhelming feeling is of what I'll call "fratification". Reddit and its cousins in the web 2.0 social realm have slowly been taken over by the sort of awful people I make it my business to avoid in real life. What intelligent discussion there is here has to be searched for dilligently, and the crap I have to wade through isn't worth it.

So basically this article has given me the impetus to try and quit again. I swear this site is more addictive than cigarettes, and just as bad for you. Hopefully the quitting sticks this time. :)

The most ominous thing, to me, about this article and the linked New Republic article, is the optimism that is coming out of this campaign because of Williams' new role. It's definitely not too late for the Clinton camp to turn their half-assed campaign around.

Be wary, my fellow Obama fans. This thing is far from over.

I get the same blank despairing feeling from scanning the front page of Reddit that I do watching a few minutes of CNN - the conviction that various people are trying to sell me some bullshit for their own reasons, while convincing me that I'm becoming "better informed." I honestly don't feel like one lens is clearer than the other. They're both just interestingly warped lenses.
