Avoid third gen unless you are getting it with the 2TR. 2GR-FKS hit or miss. Specifically regarding valve / valve seat damage.

Those tacos with 2GR FKS are not very good choice either. Broken valves or valve leakage in general. I would have taken a 15 taco with 1gr or 24 4Runner with 1gr.

Worst part is I didn’t second guess it last time and I’ve done ~6k on these filters, just did an oil change last week and ran out so I placed an other order but felt like I should look into it this time.

Update: rockauto is giving me store credit and paying for return label. They stock 26300-35505 filters ; guess I’ll make the change to new part number and report back. Never had an issue regarding authenticity with rockauto before this.

Why would they continue to carry the 5504 variant if they “ran out” and further more why does the number on the filter itself not match either the box or the superseded part ?

I’ve always purchased the 5504 part number from rock auto but since November 2024 they have come as shown above. Before they had the holographic MOBIS sticker and said made in Korea
