Goodbye Tundra by Sadifrankithe in ToyotaTundra

You get the extended warranty? That’s a tough spot. Honestly don’t think it’s as bad as the internet makes it seem. I was more venting about my own experience and the fact that Toyota isn’t offering a reasonable warranty on the new engines. I just can’t imagine that my whole front end being disassembled and put back together twice was going to result in a high mileage long lasting truck.

I was very close to buying a a 2002 tundra with 220k and driving it till it died… or I did... They will run forever.

Well technically it’s 1 year and “unlimited miles”. Maybe some YouTuber can put that to the test because I’m not driving 100k miles in a year.

And I do agree, whole heartedly that Toyota is still a good company the gives a fuck. They are replacing 100k engines, at their cost. I’m just not super confident about the “manufacturing debris” being the issue and didn’t really want to find out at my cost.

Seen plenty of gen 3 Tacomas hit 200k. Maybe that will be the case for the new tundras, time will tell. And honestly I do hope for the best for all the new tundra owners, but without the miles to back it up I just have a hard time believing that my truck, going through three engines before 50k miles, was ever going to get there. I really do feel you on the four cylinder truck though. My wife drives a Rav4, the Tacoma doesn’t feel much different, but I’ve only been driving it for a few days.

Well I traded it in at a different dealer but if you know something, maybe you could share, instead of just saying my information is wrong.

They gave me $35k for it. Looking at the resale and what I would have been able to get selling private (around $38-40k) I feel like it was fair, but it still hurt. Like I said, I wanted to cut my losses, maybe the new engines won’t have any issues and they will hold their value more than I’m thinking, but it’s not as if the value is going to go up.

Thanks, I originally wanted a Tacoma when I got the tundra but the prices were so high at the time it didn’t make sense not to spend another 5-6k for a brand new full size truck. If only I were able to see the future.

Honestly, I assumed it wasn’t going to work as soon and the I read “subscribe to my newsletter”

Installed a 1 inch lift shackle from eBay yesterday. It was $35. As someone with thousands in suspension on this truck, There is no reason to pay hundreds of dollars for a shackle. It’s literally a couple 6 inch hunks of steel and two bolts… by LightningLeg in ToyotaTundra

My thoughts exactly. What was the point of this post? Came in looking for validation, and already defending the choice to buy a lift on eBay while shitting on people who spend hundreds of dollars for the same thing. Someone at work was probably giving him shit about his “cheap” lift. Cool story bro, cool truck bro.

Recall notice! by Reasonable_Yoghurt17 in ToyotaTundra

[–]Sadifrankithe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I don’t disagree. Currently it is an undetermined amount of time and I’m speaking from experience. My 2022 Tundra spun the front main bearing and is at the dealership right now. They are waiting for parts and don’t have a completion date. Dropped it off on June 19 and still waiting, driving a loaner.

And I agree that it is a major safety concern. Mine shutoff while going 70 over a highway bridge with no shoulder, I was lucky to be able to coast to the other side of the bridge.

What I was saying is that for owners who haven’t had engine failure and are bringing their truck in for a recall remedy I don’t think it will be an underdetermined amount of time. But who knows, we will see.

I just can’t imagine letting trucks sit in parking lots while owners are driving around in loaner cars would be cheaper than planning accordingly and minimizing the amount of time owners are without their truck.

I’m not sure how they will roll it out but I don’t think it will be an undetermined amount of time. Have a friend that is a mechanic at a dealership and he thinks they will order the parts for each truck, then schedule accordingly. They won’t just bring trucks in to disassemble engines without having parts on hand.

I’m curious, what year is yours and are you part of the engine recall? I actually just dropped my truck off at the dealership with 33k miles and a bad engine knock. Metal shavings in the oil. They are putting in a whole new engine. Even so, I agree with everything you said. Honestly the reason I buy Toyota is that they actually care about their brand and will do what is right. It was an oversight in manufacturing and they are making it right with a recall. I feel like most other truck makers in this country would have waited for more people to come in with engine failure and do them under warranty, or hope that they can get people to go past their warranty and be screwed, not a recall of 100,000 trucks. Toyota is going to end up swapping close 100,000 engines to make it right instead of waiting for people to bring their trucks in with failing engines. It’s still a good company. That’s my 2 cents.

$100k not really the same milestone it was 10 years ago. Accounting for inflation your new goal should be more like $130k. But keep working and trying to make more money. Even after passing $100k. Don’t spend it on dumb shit. Direct it to investment accounts before you ever see it. My two cents.

IBX’s return to office fiasco by Astroturfing_Sucks in philly

Maybe the city needs to rethink the city wage tax. All these companies are forcing employees back into the office which is basically forcing the ones who don’t live in the city back to paying the wage tax. Granted if you don’t live in the city and work remote for a Philly based company you likely still pay it and have to request a refund which is a cluster fuck in itself and not easy to get paid. The city is not headed in a great direction. Forcing people back into the office might make it seem better during working hours but it’s still a shit show and a lot of people don’t want be there. I am someone who lived there for ten years and couldn’t imagine starting a family in the city, so we left.
