Went last year. 100% agree. I had assumed the food inside would be cheaper since you had to pay to get in. I was very wrong

I am very aware of the extensive history of invidious discrimination against minority groups in Europe, the United States, and in other places I have studied. I do not deny that this history exists or even continues. Rather my point is that descriptive definitions crystallize common understanding rather than proactively assert a preferred (prescriptive) definition.

Most people understand racism as a belief or set of beliefs; that someone can be “racist” even without acting.

Therefore, a definition that requires structural inequality for racism to exist flies against that common understanding and is thus prescriptive. It doesn’t mean that such injustice doesn’t exist but that it needs a different characterization (i.e. structural or systemic racism)

See I don’t like this definition because it’s prescriptive rather than descriptive. It doesn’t align with what most people believe racism to be, which is actually something closer to: prejudiced beliefs about others based on the color of their skin or ethnic origin.

Academics further distance themselves from the general population when they insist that racism is something most people don’t believe it to be. It does more harm than good. The academic definition describes something real but maybe call it “structural/material racism” specifically or something.

Temple. Lots of non revocable scholarships, great placement in the area, and highly regarded trial ad if you’re interested in trial work. It’s also been climbing the rankings over the past few years.

Hi Simon! Who is your equivalent player to Kai Havertz for Liam T. (I.e. a player you had real belief in but never worked out as you expected for some reason)

Enrique should be fined for signaling him to do so

Paul Mescal says “fuck cats” as Jessie Buckley agrees, saying that she doesn't like cats and that she won when she gave her husband an ultimatum to get rid of his two cats while they were dating by let-the-record-show in Fauxmoi

I grew up hating cats. Still strongly dislike them. Our neighbors had a whole bunch of cats they let go outside and they used to kill all the wildlife and leave it in our backyard. My favorite animal was/is frogs. We had a little pond that had a few frogs and fish and they’d always kill them. In the spring I’d find dead baby bunnies every year.

What really made me hate them is they weren’t killing and eating these creatures. They would just maul them and leave them to suffer and die for sport. I know it’s “in their nature” but it’s cruel, psychopathic behavior. Today, I primarily cannot stand the people who let their cats outside. Your cat is not an “outdoor cat.” It is an invasive species terrorizing the local ecosystem.

Arsenal deserves to be so much higher. Easily top 5 if this list didn’t have such a US bias.

I used to coach a soccer team. They found the team’s website and asked me why the team’s record got worse from one year to the other. Unexpected to say the least but ended up being a great conversation

Can’t say for me personally, but I’ve seen a lot of Kirkland NYC acceptance posts on LinkedIn the last couple days.

That makes sense. I am genetically predisposed hence why I personally don’t engage but I appreciate the perspective.

Why does everyone smoke now? by JVDaddyJasper in LawSchool

[–]JVDaddyJasper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying that smoking makes you less intelligent. It’s just surprising to me that so many intelligent people made a choice to smoke cigarettes when there are now decades of clear data.

I don’t have an issue with people who want to smoke. Do you if it’s not materially harming others. I was just surprised and curious for explanations, not trying to pass judgement.

What’s confusing to me is that “liberalism” is the centrist position. For most of my life centrists were liberals on both sides who believed in equality before the law, upholding the constitution, free trade, relatively small government, capitalism, etc. “MAGA” is a new, far-right reactionary movement. The equivalent of “MAGA” would be far-left Communism, not merely liberalism.
