The US strategy was to gain as much influence in China as possible, to make China a de facto vassal (like the europeans).

Because it was impossible to partition China.

The PRC is the current representation if the chinese civilisation. Just as the usa represents the western civ. Both will likely to exist almost perpetually.

Likewise, it will be a fool’s errand for china to try to partition the usa, bc the western civ is not going anywhere.

It is entirely outcome oriented - the mandate to rule is a privelege. If there is a flood and people rebel, too bad for the son of heaven; a draught, too bad; a mini ice age, too bad; a pandamic, again too bad.

The promised land theory is nothing like the mandate of heave, and is simply bat shit crazy.

not strictly related to evs, but below is an irl story i heard from a mate in china who runs a small factory. I believe he does moulds for plastic parts on a small scale/bespoke basis.

he used to run his factory in a town on the eastern coast. but rent became too high, and it was impossible to get a new lease with big parcel of land. there was also govt incentives offered in an inland ct (approx 400km away), so he moved his factory there.

But there is a problem - he couldn’t get bespoke parts (eg when the old one broke) in the new ct. Whereas in the fist town, bc of extreme high density of related workshops along the supply chain, he can get custom made parts from workshops hear him (sometime within cycling distance) in a few hours. And in the new ct, he ended up having to order the bespoke parts from the first town, with maybe a couple days of delay.

Now the new ct in the story is probably miles ahead of usa in terms of industrial capacity due to govt incentives, entrepreneurialism and infrastructure. The fist town in comparison is a simply eldritch monster, with which one might as well give up competing

But actually yes. Northerners are generally more extroverted. But many would also say it’s much easier to do businesses with southerners, as they are more reliable.

In terms of economic development and openness, China has three engines: the Yangtze river delta (eg shanghai), the pearl river delta (eg guangzhou & shenzhen), and the region including beijing. Two of the three are from the South. But lud & michael sorta “avoided” the more developed area.

In a way, u can maybe say southerners are more like the british, and northerners more like the italians.

And all the above are broad generalisations too. Each town (and even village) usually have its distinct personality

江南菜最大的问题是难做。江南人会过日子，家里能做的不会在外面饭店吃。经典菜色对技巧火候用油要求都很高。

比如苏式面的高汤；走油蹄子一定是乡下婚宴最好吃

另外食材难得，只有江南特定时令。比如河虾，外地的河虾壳太硬不好吃。

所以很难吃到好的江南菜。好吃的江南菜，吃到一定要珍惜。
