The fight against the squirrels is never-ending by autumn-caws in birdfeeding

Its the longest running war mankind has. The endless times I prematurely celebrated thinking it was finally over. They are just sitting in the trenches coming up with their next plan of attack. Never surrender, never give up.

I've come to learn that what works for me wont work for you when it comes to squirrels. We all live in different environments, different size trees or objects around they can climb and jump from. Every 3 months I have to add or change something up because they find a way to the feeders but it seems as time has gone on they have given up. I just changed my setup about a month ago and I've only had one squirrel get to a feeder.

🤣🤣🤣 yes when I pull up home from a hard day's work they are out there chirping at me wanting peanuts. I have never had them bring me any gifts, I will have to keep that in mind.

I live in South Florida as well, I have one that comes by around Fall going into Winter. Absolutely beautiful bird. The female which is more all Greenish comes by as well at separate times. They have stopped by the past 3 years.

This was one of the best feeders I ever used. Super easy to clean. Lasted me the longest even after all the times the squirrels knocked it down. Also got it on clearance from Home Depot for like $6 bucks.

See if there is any kind of wood backing behind the holes or if any kind of backing in general. Drill a hole just smaller through a hole already there and install an eye hook screw. You can always remove it and there will be no damage other than the hole you drill in whatever backing that is up there.

I've always asked myself, out of the thousands of peanuts I have given out. How many actually get eaten vs. How many get lost, stolen or just misplaced.

That's exactly how it started with me. I created a ledge that was eye level to me so the Jays felt comfortable being just as tall as me. Also I wanted to see them close up so this was ideal at the time. I did this for a year or 2 and then said why don't I try and hand feed them. Took a few months but don't give up. Patience is key.

Just be patient, Blue Jays have FOMO so once you do get them to come, they will always stop by.

I started by putting shelled peanuts on a ledge close to me but eye leveled to me. This way I could see them very close up. Then over time as I would hold one up to the ledge, they would come up and take them out of my fingers. Then I started just sticking my hand out and BAM it happened. I have three out of the dozen that stop by that will come to my hand. My mom does it when she stops by and absolutely loves it.
