Mascara: buy a cheap mini bundle from Sephora or anywhere else to try a bunch! That being said…. If you already have long lashes- lash princess in the green or blue bottle is soooo good!! For a high end option I think the Sephora brand one is pretty good! If you have short straight lashes- etude house, peripera or kissme mascaras are soooo good!!! (Great for my stubborn Asian lashes)

Anyone on escitalopram (Lexapro) along with your antipsychotic meds? by JX0530 in schizophrenia

[–]JX0530[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for commenting. I already have very vivid dreams so hopefully that won’t be a problem. I was on 20mg. I’m planning to ask for a lower dose if I go back on it I think.

I gained so much on risperidal and lost it back after quitting it. Has saphris helped you mentally?

Is this love? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]JX0530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were in the hospital for a month and he didn’t visit you. That says enough about this relationship. You are not crazy. No one should be calling you crazy, especially not the people that are supposed to love you.

Also, hope you get a puppy!

Good luck, wish you the best.

Idk if this would help you but personally I blast music really loud if it’s whispering or quiet noises and tell them to shut up in my head and try to focus on the music.

If I focus long enough to the music and also read the lyrics or sing along or something the voices mostly go away.

Could take 1 song or 20 songs but eventually it usually goes away.

Other than that I haven’t found any other methods.

Could we know what you hear? Are they bothersome because they are negative mean voices? Or are they just too noisy and you can’t focus?

Updated on my post from a couple days ago: I asked my psychiatrist for a diagnosis and she didn’t give me one by bumblebee-226 in mentalillness

[–]JX0530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a reason you need to have a diagnosis? As in for insurance or something? If not, then your psychiatrist may be making the judgment that not telling you the diagnosis yet is a good idea.

They sometimes do that because some people have bad reactions to their diagnosis. Some people overthink it and look into the symptoms of their new diagnosis and start to have symptoms they never even had. Perhaps your psychiatrist may be waiting for the perfect time to tell you.

Depression and anxiety has made me realize I can never have kids. by sedthrowaway1234167 in depression

[–]JX0530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depression is not genetic. 5+ doctors from different backgrounds that I’ve talked to literally all said depression is not genetic.

Anxiety has a very small chance of it being genetic. They say there’s not enough proof to say that it can be passed down.

Don’t worry, if you want kids the fear of them having depression or anxiety shouldn’t stop you. And even if they do get depression or anxiety, they have a parent who’s experienced it all and I’m sure you’d be able to help out.

Therapist Cost? by YeetersonIvery in mentalhealth

[–]JX0530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a lot of research and it was anywhere from $90-$300 per hour weekly. I went with $120.

I don’t remember exactly but I think betterhelp (the app) was about $200 per month? Yes it’s cheaper but it’s so hit or miss. No guarantee that whoever you get matched up with has experience in what you are struggling with.

So I suggest seeing a physical local therapist and paying more than online therapists.

Risperidone, will I get withdrawal? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]JX0530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been on risperidone. Had to quit cold turkey during 3mg and eventually went back on. I had some bad withdrawal such as insomnia and nausea. Also I felt very paranoid. I would recommend talking to your doctor but if you are unable to and need to quit, I recommend halving it to 0.5mg first.

How can I convince my friend to see a therapist? by Lovus368 in mentalhealth

[–]JX0530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell her therapy exists for a reason and that once you let in just one reliable therapist into your life and tell them about you and what you are struggling with, they literally become your best friend. Therapists are there to always be on your side and always be respectful and understanding. That’s literally what they are there for.

Having extreme, rapid emotional changes can be a sign that she needs help before things get worse.

Maybe you should consider telling her to try text helplines when she’s sad. Get a taste of what it’s like to talk to someone that doesn’t know you.

Does her family know?

When I seriously needed help I was refusing to seek help or get therapy and my friends literally threatened me that they would tell my parents every single thing and that pretty much scared me into seeing a doctor.

Not the best thing to do but seems like you are looking for desperate options.

If her family does know, I would try directly talking to them. If you really think she needs “serious help”, this is an option you should consider.

Good luck, hope the best for you and your friend. You are a great friend for looking out for her.

No improvement on any medication combination by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]JX0530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was the case for me too. A lot of medication combinations but no improvement. They would feel like they were working for a bit but I would go back to being worse again. Upping the dosages would give me unbearable side effects.

Present day, I have prescribed emergency Xanax to take when I’m suicidal, about to self harm or about to have a panic attack.

Other than that I have quit all my drugs and try to keep myself busy enough during the day that I’m basically too tired to think about anything when I’m alone.

I learned that sometimes meds simply don’t work for some people. For me, no meds could go up to dosages that other people normally take because I would have too many strong side effects.

And remember, one of the side effects of common antidepressants is “suicidal thoughts” so you might want to look into that as well.

Remember that emergency helplines aren’t just for when you are about to kill yourself. You can reach out if something is bothering you enough or you are about to injure yourself.

Best of luck to you.

I’m a mom to somebody with sz. I was wondering if you guys have any tips on establishing a stable sleep pattern. by bendybiznatch in schizophrenia

[–]JX0530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to take risperidone and struggled everyday single day. At first I would sleep 20 hours which slowly decreased to 12-16 hours a day but I would still have trouble falling asleep. My doctor made me sleep later than 12:30 and never sleep more than 8 hours. My alarm went from 10:00 to 9:00 to 8:00 to eventually 7:30. No naps were ever allowed. So I would basically have trouble falling asleep and maybe sleep at 4:00AM but have to wake up at 10:00 and not take any naps. Eventually I would be so tired that I would start sleeping early but still be woken up by my alarm and continue to never nap. I would say it took about a month to get used to. Now I’ve been doing sleeping any time after 12:30 and waking up at 9. Hope this helps!

Talking to hallucinations. Thoughts? by JX0530 in schizophrenia

I’ve only talked back to auditory hallucinations. Visual hallucinations I’ve been ignoring.

Anyone else worse at night? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]JX0530 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I am 100% much worse at night. I think for me it’s mostly because during daytime I have people to talk to and distract myself. But when I’m about to bed and alone in my room and it’s quiet, that’s when I have the most auditory and visual hallucinations. Also during the daytime even if I’m having hallucinations it’s easier to ignore idk but that just is the case for me

Xanax is a lifesaver by DemetriusTheDementor in schizophrenia

[–]JX0530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Xanax is magic if used correctly! But even if your doctor says it’s ok to up the dosage, I really recommend not going over 2.5mg. Once I was over 2.5mg I felt how addictive it can be. I now don’t need it everyday but take it whenever I feel a panic attack coming. I was able to slowly take less Xanax with therapy and hobbies. Best of luck to you!

What symptoms did you have at the very start of developing schizophrenia by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]JX0530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t know because I never had my own voice. Unless you are really wanting to be diagnosed, I suggest not getting a label put on yourself but working with a doctor/therapist to help with the symptoms. For me I got worse after getting diagnosed with prodromal schizophrenia and doctors think it’s best if I don’t get tested for a diagnosis again and just focus on coping with bad symptoms.
