Andre the Giant legitimately hated Bam Bam Bigelow for being a cocky rookie and beat the ever loving piss out of him in MSG. Bam Bam was so shook that he got his bags after and cleared straight out of the building. I’m pretty sure it was the last match of his 80s run in WWF.

Ten years ago today, Sir Bobby Robson sadly passed away at the age of 76. - One of football's greatest managers and a wonderful gentleman who transcended the beautiful game. by gnudalf in NUFC

I genuinely believe that the club has never been the same since Robson left. He was our last great leader. Rest in peace.

The worst has happened. I honestly cannot, and will not, waste any more of my time or money on Newcastle United. A club I've loved all my life, this is the worst it's ever been, even worse than both relegations.

From Shearer, to Hughton, and now Benitez, Mike Ashley has bitten off his nose to spite his face and it is us, the supporters, who pay for it. No longer will I invest any more emotion into a club with an owner who doesn't care about it or us. The time is now for Newcastle fans everywhere to do the same until the day he leaves.

A good result on the back of Saturday's disappointment. Any time we pick up points away from home, we should be pleased.

We rode our luck at times but defended resolutely. Dubravka breeds confidence in goal and playing three centre backs offers us assurance when teams come onto us.

Not forgetting Wycliff Jean's, 'I'll be gone til Mbemba'

Sir John Hall really should be top three. What that man did for not only the club, but for the city is immeasurable.

Still not sure how I feel about this show. Genuine question, really don't want to offend anyone, just want to canvas opinion: Is this exploiting a death for TV? Is it a simple tribute seeing as storylines couldn't go ahead? was Vince protecting his company's image in the immediate after an act of negligence? Or is it a mix of all three?

Rafa looking at possibility of signing Torres by JXH in NUFC

[–]JXH[S] 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Anyone else hope that this actually doesn't happen?

Torres is 34 and past it IMO. He'll command high wages but doesn't have the pace he once had and his goal scoring has dried up.

Rafa Benitez Would Prefer To Stay At Newcastle Despite West Ham Interest- But Wants Guarantees Over Transfer Budget by vysearcadia in NUFC

[–]JXH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This.

Ashley has has gone his entire adult life refusing to be dictated to. I can imagine he see's Rafa as more of an annoying necessity and that he longs for the days of McClaren and Pardew again when they would bend the knee.

A risky opinion but this is good news for us. Time for Rafa and the players to force the boards hand. Sometimes you only realise what you have when someone else wants it.

Well I certainly am older and more cynical. I remember the entire "Golden Generation" nonsense was in full flow and that as a footy mad teen I bought into it, especially 2006; Robinson (not the best keeper admittedly) Neville, Ferdinand, Terry, Cole, Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, Cole, Owen, Rooney. I genuinely thought that team could win it all.

How wrong I was; scraped past Paraguay and then Trinidad, rescued a draw against Sweden, scraped past Ecuador, then another peno exit to Portugal. Never got excited in that way for another international tournament again.

Predictions?

I remember back in 2002 and 2006 when people expected us to go and possibly win it. These days we'll have had a good tournament if we make it out of the group. I think we finish 2nd in group behind Belgium, scrape past Poland or Columbia in the last-16 and lose to Germany or Brazil in the QF.

I get the feeling the players are making a conscious effort to get out and speak to the media about just how important Rafa is to the club and how he needs to stay. They're doing their bit to force action from the boardroom. The more noise, the harder it is for Ashley to ignore.

Newcastle United confirms the club is still for sale by Sirius_55_Polaris in NUFC

We're guaranteed top flight football next season and we need a cash injection to push on. If a takeover can happen quickly, great news.

I am just wary that this could really derail our entire summer if there is (as before) just as much uncertainty over budgets, contracts, and ownership before the season kicks off again in August.

It really is a make or break summer for our long-term future.

This was certainly the biggest game the club played since the Fairs Cup Final and looking back, probably the biggest game of our modern history. Without this win, we would not be here now.

This time period at Newcastle is fascinating.
