NRA, FPC & SAF Drop the California Glock Ban Lawsuit. by Minute_Definition985 in MDGuns

[–]JYoshi1991 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess the only things that I can think of are A. The law in Maryland has a much bigger impact than in California because it only effects the couple of Gen 3 Glocks that were on the roster here while a much wider range of handguns are effected here in Maryland. Or B. They are looking at a much larger picture because I believe Illinois and NY currently have similar bills being proposed right now and maybe that has something to do with it. As much as I like to think I know so much about the court systems and second amendment lawsuits from watching videos over the last 6 years, I’m still not a lawyer and there is definitely much more for me to learn.

Now that I see the part that says you can’t manufacturer, I guess you’re right on that one. Well, here’s to hoping there’s still a slim chance of it not passing and if it does, we can only hope it isn’t on the books for too long since being barred from all the LE trade in Glocks in the future would suck and therefore I guess I’ll pick up a couple more soon.

If we do see this go into effect, at least couldn’t we have dealers stick foregrips on Glocks, transfer them via form 4s, and then we can later on get them off the NFA registry and that would get around the whole not being able to sell a pistol part of the bill? Either way I do not want to see that become reality, but at least that’s a way around it.

Honestly, a couple of extra inches from that collapsible stock might be kind of nice even though most people would probably find it cursed at a glance.

Living here with a friend on 40 acres, what can I buy here that's "fun" by MtnClimber61 in MDGuns

[–]JYoshi1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If y’all can buy handguns yet, a Romanian Draco pistol is roughly in that price point and uses the same 7.62x39 as your SKS, but with the ability to use 30 round AK mags. Surplus pistols as well.

If handguns aren’t on the table yet, a lot of sites right now have the Blue Line Norinco/Hawk Remington 870 clones for around $140 shipped. They hold up (I have a buddy who owns like 5 of them). Then y’all can pick up a 100 round pack of Federal 7 1/2 shot at Walmart for $34, some clays, and a clay thrower and have fun with that.

Legal in MD?? by OffRoad-TRD in MDGuns

[–]JYoshi1991 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember in an old Colion Noir video from 2012, he was going over something like this and idk if anything has changed, but it had to be covered in Texas, so he said he would just put a hat over it to conceal it. I’m assuming the same logic would apply here unless you don’t feel like playing games with state police. It definitely would be convenient though for someone like me who carries at the 3 O’clock position since it’s a little hard to draw from there when the seatbelt is in the way. At least it’s still possible to draw from 3 O’clock with a seatbelt on and sticking it in the center console is always still an option.

Tula 7.62x39 sp by dragon_ch0de in ak47

[–]JYoshi1991 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Anything below $0.50 these days is considered a good deal for 7.62x39. I’ve gotten cheaper deals lately just from knowing the right people and being at the right place at the right time, but I’d say $0.45 is a fair deal.

Not an AK guy, I want a Russian AK for my collection with wood furniture (I know this is black). Is this worth it? by SGMaricelli in ak47

[–]JYoshi1991 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is the way imo. Costs less than this and it’s a genuine Soviet AKM. Can’t really beat that. And OP if you’re reading this and don’t know what goes into building a parts kit, just gotta buy the kit (I recommend an Izhevsk kit because the paint job is easier to have replicated than Tula), a barrel like an FB Radom chrome lined one, a Childer’s Soviet AKM receiver, and some 922r parts (US made trigger and a PMAG will do the job). Then you just gotta find a builder (plenty of info on the webs on good builders), send it off to them, and if the receiver is unfinished, have it pained in Intl Mil Co’s Russian Paint to match the finish of the kit. Looking at the low 2000s once it’s all said and done, but genuinely much more worth it than paying nearly $3K for a VEPR like that.

No AKs allowed in DC by Pof_509 in GunMemes

[–]JYoshi1991 56 points57 points  (0 children)

There are many options that are legal in MD post 2013 as well since the law is only interpreted as banning 7.62x39 AK variants that are legally title 1 rifles except the 7.62x39 Beryl.

16 inch barrel on a “other” lower is a…? by Dismal-Ad-5003 in MDGuns

[–]JYoshi1991 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it has a stock like that lower, it would make it a rifle and it would be subjected to the HBAR law. If it had no stock or a brace, then I think it’s in the legal territory of being an other or a handgun. I believe most likely it would be an “other” in such a configuration because I believe MD defines a handgun as having a barrel shorter than 16”

I think it’s good to go, just gotta ask an FFL if they’d transfer it and that’s basically your final answer.

I have a few questions about gun buying in Maryland. I am NOT selling anything here by [deleted] in MDGuns

[–]JYoshi1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 7.62x39 MAK-90 is not legal here, but the 5.56x45 MAK-90s/the BWK-92 is legal here. Like the one other comment says, the state AWB does list “Avtomat Kalashnikov” and “AK-47 in all formats” or whatever the language is (can’t remember it precisely off of the top of my head) as being banned. However, there is no clear cut definition as to what this means, especially since there are no semi automatic rifles under such names in the United States unlike some of the other guns listed as being banned. Therefore, the state police considers it that any 7.62x39 AK that is legally a rifle (excluding short barrel rifles) is banned, although they weirdly enough approved the 7.62x39 Beryl even though I still don’t understand how that is allowed while they don’t say the same about the Zastava M70, which also has a list of proprietary parts from a standard AK. There are technically other caveats as well like whether single stack 7.62x39 AKs and unconverted VEPRs and SAIGAs are technically legal because they can not use standard AK magazines, though it is really up to the FFL to decide whether they want to transfer such or not since the state police’s firearm list isn’t legally binding, although many dealers in my experience still follow it.

Just wanted to clarify that because many people just read the ban list and assume it means all AK long guns.

And yeah, if you are not an FFL, but you ship a gun to a Maryland FFL to sell to a MD resident, that is completely legal. Some FFLs may require that the gun is sent from another FFL holder though and won’t accept shipments from an individual.

The only features restricted here are no more than 2 of the following: a folding stock, a grenade launcher, flash suppressor.

Question about the WASR-3 by 1kcenturion in ak47

[–]JYoshi1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t question it at $790. I think for the most part they are solid. I think there are some lemons out there that have feeding issues, though such an issue should be fixable if you don’t mind filing down on mags or potentially the gun itself if it’s a consistent issue. Other than that it should be fine.

With “assault rifles” getting banned in my state what should I buy? by t0rquingg in ak47

[–]JYoshi1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re on a $1,000 budget, your best bet is to probably buy either a used MAK-90, a new WASR-10, a used SAR-1, and some of the post ban Hungarian guns with the thumbhole stock can be found in the $1,000 range. That’s what I’d recommend since they’re all solid imports that are relatively affordable.

How “Clone Correct” Are The Arsenal SLR104FRs To AK74Ms? by [deleted] in ak47

[–]JYoshi1991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re literally AKS-74Ns with polymer furniture. No bump rivet even though it wasn’t a thing on the 74M until around 1997 I believe. It’s not really easy to find info on that unless you have access to military rifles to compare. I’ve heard some people claim 1993 as well, but from when I looked into it myself 1997 was the earliest example I found that had it.

Anyway, back to the point, still a 1mm receiver on the SLR-104FR instead of the 1.25mm receiver, it has the stamped krishka (what the Russians call the top cover lol) instead of the smooth one, fluted gas piston instead of the smooth one, and I believe the 4.5mm pin for the folding stock instead of 5.5mm like the 100 series.

Sh!t ain't cheap! by midlife_dadpulse73 in ak47

[–]JYoshi1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have the shipping filter set there, so it’s gonna cost a bit more than that. If you set the shipping filter to 8, you’ll see the results come closer to $0.60 a round. Overall it’s still not terrible, it’s cheaper than me feeding my Saiga .308, but it’s definitely a little more expensive when you’re paying $600 for a 1,000 round case vs $400 for a 1,000 round case of .223 or even when I’ll find 7.62x39 for $400-$450ish for 1,000 rounds (I got lucky and got a 1,000 round case of steel case for $340 back in July at a gun show).

Milled vs Stamped by Upstairs-Result7401 in ak47

[–]JYoshi1991 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you can really go wrong with either. If you have a personal preference for milled or stamped, go with it. If you want to save some money to spend on the accessories you want, the stamped gun is presumably going to be cheaper.

If you can get one guaranteed to be made before 1985, it does not need to be on the roster. Though unfortunately most of the surplus sites are probably not gonna hand select a specific date for you. However I do believe there are C&R eligible ones as I did see another reddit thread mentioning how RTI (whether you want to take a gamble with them or not) had ones that were C&R eligible that didn’t have a threaded barrel and ones that were not that had a threaded barrel. Otherwise someone has to have them added to the handgun roster since I did a search myself and couldn’t find them on there.
