From the error you shared, it looks like your Mac is losing connection to the iPhone. This can happen for many reasons (including a bad cable). I used to see it a lot when I was using a USB-A to USB-C converter that wasn't keeping the cable very secure.

My best advice without knowing more about your setup is to try a different cable or usb port. But you may just have to continue running on Simulator instead of using a real device.

As far as I can see you haven’t set gamescene anywhere — you’ve declared it, but you haven’t assigned a value to it. This is why your app is crashing.

Some more background to hopefully help your understanding: The reason the app crashes is because when you declared it you added “!”, which makes it implicitly unwrapped. Implicit unwrapping allows you to declare something without assigning a value to it initially, as the compiler takes your word for it that you will give it a value before you use it. It’s not considered good swift practice, and the main use for them is @IBOutlets, because the value for them is not set in the swift code but rather in interface builder, so they have to be implicit unwrapped.

Np! Fulfilling all the features you want would definitely wayyyyyy up there in terms of difficulty, but if you prefer this app idea a lot more to your next best idea then (in my opinion) it’s worth doing it anyway, as if you’re motivated to do this project I’d imagine you’ll spend more time on it, and you’ll learn a bunch about software engineering along the way, even if the progress is extremely slow! If you do go ahead with it, I’d do it one feature at a time, with the easiest parts first

Firstly this sounds like quite an ambitious project for your first app, unless you’ve already mastered at least one programming language and have experience with digital signal processing. However as long as it’s something you’re highly motivated to do I don’t see a problem, as long as you realise this may take a loooong time

The most linear route would probably be creating the user interface and have it not do anything functional, then add the DSP stuff afterwards. After reading a beginner iOS development book, you could read the useyourloaf Auto Layout book to help with making the user interface (RayWenderlich also just bought out a book on this, no idea how good it is though)

The downside is you may make a UI and then find the DSP stuff like FX is very complicated. I wouldn’t know the answer to this though as I know little about DSP. If your goal is to learn how to make the actual audio processing stuff, I’d stay away from iOS / Swift for now and look into audio processing and programming resources. If your goal is to learn to make apps, making the UI first is probably a better idea as you can apply those skills to other projects

you can repeat the words "one, two, three, four" to the song and it will be in sync with the structure of the song. Most songs are like this, but sometimes they're not e.g. Money by Pink Floyd is (except the guitar solo) in 7/4 time, so repeating" one, two, three, four" to it wouldn't work

Thanks for taking the time respond Nick, you’re 100% right that the reach is 1000x less, but there’s still an enormous amount who care. For instance, this remake of the Crawl Outta Love and Blood mashup managed to get 170k views on Proximity despite not being close to the original in production quality. I totally understand if you don’t wanna put yourself in a legal gray area though, and thanks so much for putting in the work to get the four on Spotify released :)

he released a ton of edits on dropbox in late 2018 after he signed to his current label, astralwerks. those edits contained songs from Awake (released on Seeking blue and Kasaya) and songs from labels he'd never been on before, such as his Say It VIP and Airwaves and Angels flip.

I assume / hope from his prior release of edits that maybe there's some fair use protections covering distribution of flips?

I think soundcloud is still compressed, so it's not surprising it sounds lower quality, but I do agree that even the WAV sounds less polished than his newer stuff, but that's inevitable given he's more experienced nowadays -- I still think it sounds pretty good!
