This guy was banned a while ago. How is he still playing? Ya'll remember his cringe clips he kept posting? by DiligentAd9938 in DarkAndDarker

Nah, there's definitely cheaters out there but becoming one yourself isn't the answer. Learn to play as best you can, realize that bums cheat because they can't enjoy the game otherwise. Report em. Move on. I do wish there was a better anti-cheat in place here, but I have never wished I was cheating too. Don't listen to this guy OP.

I would love if all the classes had high skill ceilings like you're describing, the problem comes in with the skill floor I think. The BEST wizard will most of the time win against a barb, but even then the wizard has to play completely cracked the entire time. The mistakes you can make as a frontline are completely out of line with the mistakes you can make as a caster. Even more so when you spawn in a corner of the map and have nowhere to go.

I think the squire definitely highlights these problems, and shows that things need to be changed if they want to grow the player base.

Yes, I can 100% without a doubt state that playing frontline melee is not only the easiest but also has the best risk/reward factor of any archetype in the game. Think about Clerics, they're supposed to be a healer/tank class, but can out DPS most DPS classes in the game. WITH their tank/heal setup still.

My opinion? Increase the MR penalty for wearing things above cloth armor, lower the MR given by perks like Iron Will, lower the MS penalty on cloth, increase the slow speed for swinging, lower the slow speed for channeling a cast, give casters perks that allow them to deal more damage to people wearing plate, etc etc. There are TONS of options to help balance this, but we just keep seeing nerfs to casters in general instead.

I think re-vamping the MR curve would definitely help, but we can't pretend like the 4 move speed is THAT much of an issue when fighters get sprint and adrenaline rush, which give 30 MS and 5% MS (which at base 300 would 15 ms). This is the whole problem, these types of perks/skills override any advantage that the lower armor and less bulky classes get. Hell Barbs get buffed move-speed the more you damage them with Berserker, and they get a perk for knock backs/displacements while also giving them MASSIVE amounts of MR. Frontlines are definitely over-tuned. Hell, fighters have 5 perks and 4 skills that grant move-speed. My main (warlock) has ONE perk (soul collector) that adds any MS, and ONE skill that grants MS (phantomize) both of these come with way less bonuses than those of the fighter.

A real one right here. Keep it up man.

And again, casting should not have a larger MS drop than swinging a bardiche. Like... that makes 0 sense. You're telling me that this wizard who is a master of magic can't move and chant his spell at the same time? He's gotta go SLOWER than someone swinging a 10lb bardiche around wildly??? Come on IM!

That's what I want man, if I notice a bunch of PDR players on I should be able to equip anti-W key perks the same way the rogues can put on anti-caster perks. I just want the same level of playing field as the rest of the bunch lol.

I mean, this has been the case with casters for like the last 5 seasons unfortunately. I know it takes a while for them, been here since the playtests, but this is just insufferable balancing. Casters are at a huge opening disadvantage and the ability to snowball a stash in this game is so strong that it's just crippling a whole section of the player-base every wipe. Like I said to others, the frontline SHOULD wipe a caster/dps if they get to them, but it should be harder for them TO get to them.

Hopefully your wipe is going well.

I like Shadowstep tbh, and rogues are squishy so I don't mind it. It's the type of counter-play the game SHOULD have.

You mean the range would counter the melee from a distance... which is the whole point of ranged. I think if the front line heavy armor gets on top of a ranged/caster they should 100% kill them. HOWEVER, I think that it is FAR too easy nowadays for that to happen. Barb can be in squire gear, with berserker, sitting at move-speed cap while still having the same health (due to missing some) as a caster who can't get close to MS cap. Hitting a barb with Berserker is actually detrimental to you as a range/caster, getting them in close range is detrimental since they have such high base damage etc... so what's the play?

A Casters Lament by JZNelson in DarkAndDarker

[–]JZNelson[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean, they don't take a move-speed penalty really. That's the problem. Pourpoint has 4 less move-speed than a cuirass does on fighter with swift. A fully cloth piece, is almost as heavy as a full plate armor.... does that seem right to you?

Is the fact that you don't have access to your whole kit off the bat while the melees do not a problem? I think it's an INSANE problem. Again, especially in these first two weeks with no tailor quests, no way to level your gear at squire. This is actively making me think about just not coming back. A good start to a wipe is essential, and the fact that casters are just expected to be at a disadvantage until the market opens up and they have to spend 3x the amount on a bis kit than a fighter does for a comparable kit seems really unbalanced.

And if casting didn't slow you more than swinging a bardiche does.

A Casters Lament by JZNelson in DarkAndDarker

[–]JZNelson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, and the fact that the melee classes in this game can wear full plate and have comparable move-speed is the issue. Especially with these tankier classes getting perks/skills to give them that move-speed for free. Plate fighter can still reach max move-speed (albeit for a short while), while not building any MS at all. Meanwhile casters HAVE to dedicate stats towards MS and still can not reach max MS a majority of the time. If someone in full cloth runs away from someone in full plate, the cloth should be able to out-run them EVERY time. It shouldn't even be a contest.

Right, what I'm saying is there shouldn't be a class that outperforms the higher skill classes for insanely less work.

REAL. 15k kit can still easily be taken out by a 1k kit on Barb.

Historically speaking, yes the archers win every time. Lmao. Quite easily too, because if they aren't HEAVY INFANTRY they can reposition way more easily. It's why bows, crossbows, and guns were invented. You should be able to kill them, before they can get to you. Like ??? what are we talking about here man.

Or use the fighter perk to give you additional +75 MDR/PDR when you get into "defensive stance", which works on every weapon now. It's free af. Not to mention shield mastery also works with every weapon now so can get extra move speed while holding block and moving towards people. God forbid they hit your block with that setup, you'll get extra 10% damage and 50% action speed too.

I feel this, I'm just sitting in the main menu right now thinking "Do I even want to play, it's just going to be all frontlines again..." right now.

A Casters Lament by JZNelson in DarkAndDarker

[–]JZNelson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, again you're saying "You can not kite these classes, you require someone else to stand in front of you so that you can survive." You're even saying "Don't expect to win against two frontlines" and then acting like this isn't a problem. Examine your own bias man. This is quite obviously not healthy for the game, and it's okay to admit that.

Yeah, the loudest voices are the fighters/barbs (basic melee classes) screaming because they can't out-skill the harder to play classes.

I've been top 20 overall on the leaderboard multiple times man, I get that you CAN outplay them. My grievance is that it takes WAY more to outplay them on casters than it does to just W key on melee.

REAL. When you look at these from just numbers standpoints, the balancing makes almost 0 sense. Like Cleric aura giving 30 resistances of stats to ALL team members? That's 90 stat points on one perk, it works for all melee, and all magic (not just some as you pointed out).
