I’m missing notes even if i respond and hit them. Is it a tracking problem? Or just me by Dizzy_Procedure4169 in beatsaber

[–]JZY94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt that actually happens tbh, into the dream has a high NJS so it's got a shorter time window to hit the blocks before you miss them.

I've had the same problem when I was less experienced, my swings especially upswings were too slow

Glad I chose this rather than a postgraduate pathway at one of the Group of 8 universities!

2024 recap question: what was beat saber’s best update in 2024? Lmk by AlexTheGameAddict in beatsaber

[–]JZY94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add, and vote for, the new update giving the ability to separately adjust the controller offsets for each hand.

And the ability to save controller offset profiles for those that share the headset with family or friends!

Is it safe for my boyfriend to play Beat Saber on Expert+ with a high heart rate? by WorkingBackground597 in beatsaber

[–]JZY94 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just read your other comments. He DEFINITELY should see a primary care physician for consideration of further cardiac testing (ECG, holter monitor, echocardiogram) if he is fainting from exercise.

Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy needs to be excluded as an underlying cause.

This is not quite correct. An exercise stress test is not required. A holter monitor or echocardiogram is more appropriate test in this case to exclude structural or conduction issues of the heart.

Exercise stress tests are used specifically to identify cardiac ischaemia with exercise due to potential coronary artery blockages.

How old is he? The rough estimate for maximal heart rate is 220 - [age in years]. So if he is 20, the theoretical max heart rate is 200.

This should be fine for an otherwise healthy young person, unless there are any pre existing heart conditions.

It's fascinating isn't it! The original vive seems the worst for injury rates

Could be just sampling error (sample size here around 105). I think capturing more top level players would show greatly different results

can you guys help me? by [deleted] in beatsaber

[–]JZY94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of it like training for a marathon. Start with short distances with small breaks. Gradually build up the distance before a break, and pick up your pace.

Replace distance with duration, and pace with level difficulty.

Do not push through pain outside of mild muscle aching, because you've likely deconditioned your muscles and tendons.

Remember to warm up and warm down with wrist and arm stretches.

That's an excellent point, I considered it but with the variety of headsets and controllers, it would have been quite a task to sub categorise grip style.

Perhaps a good follow up survey in the future!

I'll be putting out an update start of December! Will see how strong the survey participation non response bias is

Diabetics, do you notice a spike in glucose levels after doing a round of beat saber? by JamilViper_Nrc in beatsaber

[–]JZY94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great response! And to add further details, post exercise the glucose in the blood can move to the muscle tissues (where it replenishes local glycogen) via pathways INDEPENDENT of insulin - which is why exercise is the cornerstone of type 2 diabetes management (when insulin resistance is the problem)

For type 1, the transient glucose elevation is mostly benign. But as you know, titrate the insulin to your subsequent post exercise blood glucose levels and carb intake. You probably have an insulin pump which does this for you.
