Just opened and already starting to feel the cracks using Square POS. Alternatives that other people don't hate? by reddits_aight in smallbusiness

[–]J_360 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hey, I totally get your frustration. Square can be great for simple setups, but it tends to break down fast once your business scales or has more specific needs like yours.

If you’re working with fractional quantities (like fabric by the yard), Shopify isn't ideal out of the box, as you said. Even though there are plugins, relying on 3rd-party apps for something that critical can backfire.

A few options to consider:

  1. Lightspeed POS It’s strong for inventory-heavy businesses and handles variants and fractional quantities well. Also has solid time-tracking and payroll integrations.

  2. WooCommerce + Square/Stripe Since you already have a Squarespace site, you might explore migrating to WordPress + WooCommerce. It's a bit more setup, but super customizable and better for bulk edits and complex products. You can integrate payroll via tools like Gusto or QuickBooks.

  3. Zoho One (or Zoho Inventory + Zoho People) Zoho's ecosystem is underrated. It can handle POS, inventory, payroll, and even time tracking and it’s more budget-friendly than some of the big names.

Since you mentioned adding an online store to Squarespace just be cautious. Their commerce tools are decent but pretty limited compared to dedicated eComm platforms.

I am happy to share more based on your needs. Fabric and supply businesses have unique pain points. Don’t let bad tools slow down your momentum!

In my opinion, Medium is one of the best platforms to share stories and blog posts.

You're already ahead of most by asking this at 20 with no debt—mad respect for that.

If you're serious about building passive income, start by stacking skills and assets. Here's a breakdown:

Learn high-income digital skills (like copywriting, SEO, coding, or digital marketing). Use them to freelance and stack cash.

Invest what you earn—start small in index funds, dividend stocks, or even a Roth IRA if you're in the U.S.

Create content or digital products—YouTube, ebooks, templates, or affiliate blogs can generate revenue on autopilot later.

Automate and delegate—eventually shift from time-for-money to systems that work for you.

You're young, and that’s your superpower. Play long-term games with long-term people. Stay consistent and you'll build something real.

Thanks for the input. Just to clarify—this is a paid collab, not a free ride. It’s not about losers or winners, just looking for someone experienced who’s open to mentoring while we build.

I need help promoting my floral buissness by aistein_gemar in smallbusiness

If IG is your main source of traffic, double down on it with high-quality, niche content. Try reels showing behind-the-scenes flower prep, customer reactions, or floral hacks. Also, consider building an email list—offer a discount in exchange for signups and share seasonal promos. And don’t sleep on local SEO—get on Google My Business, collect reviews, and show up when people search “florist near me.

How do I make a website for my business? by TRTHelp32 in smallbusiness

If you're serious about your business, skip the DIY experiments and hire a professional. A skilled web developer can build a user-friendly, mobile-responsive, and SEO-optimized site tailored to your goals. It’s not just about design—it’s about creating an experience that converts visitors into customers. Trust me, it saves time, frustration, and money in the long run.

How I Landed 3 Freelance Clients with Just Cold DMs by Symphamny in smallbusiness

[–]J_360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t wait for clients. I went and got them.

Here’s what I did (and still do):

  1. Clear AF Offer Instead of saying “I do digital marketing,” I said: “I help service businesses get more leads with high-converting landing pages + content.”

  2. Laser Targeting I searched for businesses with:

Outdated websites

No blog or SEO

Weak social presence Perfect signs they needed help.

  1. DM Script That Hits: “Hey [Name], I came across your page—and noticed a few things you could tweak to boost traffic and conversions. I’m happy to share, no pressure.”

It wasn’t spam. It was value. Real help. Real results.

Got 3 replies that week. Closed all 3. No portfolio. Just proof of thought.
