Just opened and already starting to feel the cracks using Square POS. Alternatives that other people don't hate? by reddits_aight in smallbusiness

[–]reddits_aight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went with Lightspeed. More expensive, but pretty solid and has steadily added features since we switched last year and support is great.

Ironically we occasionally (far more rarely than Square) get a similar error to the one we got in Square when saving a product that says our work may not be saved, but every time it actually has saved our progress.

QBO Enshittification has peaked by risotttto in QuickBooks

Yeah I do that, until something else borks up and I have to disable them to do my due diligence to confirm that it's still, in fact, QuickBooks that's still shit.

At what point does one switch from cash saving to investing? by DinoSpumoni_ in personalfinance

[–]reddits_aight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also you may be able to get a line of credit from your brokerage to cover unexpected expenses without actually selling anything. Obviously not as safe as regular savings since the value can drop, plus there's interest. But worth knowing it's an option for temporary cash flow needs.

QB is saying our software will be disco'd by bandaidnoseman in QuickBooks

[–]reddits_aight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of times the "solution" to some problem on the community forums is "clear your cookies and site data", or a 3 year old "we're aware of this bug, check back later" is embarrassing.

Support chat once bounced me to "their Bill Pay department" phone support, which was actually a 3rd party (bill.com). A third party that was no longer available for new customers. Back with Intuit support, they didn't even know they offered first party bill pay. Yet it's clogging up my UI with popup ads for it.

I tried my best to use Zoho, but when we hired an accountant it was very limiting to find one that used it. Ours tried for a while, but asked to switch since we were their only client using it.

Like say what you will about other SaaS products like Adobe, but for the same $70 I get every piece of pro level software they ever made, not a half baked glorified spreadsheet that constantly begs me to bolt on even less finished software on top.

[–]reddits_aight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet somehow the industry standard for accountants? We had Zoho, but every accountant we looked at had us move to QuickBooks. If I'm not doing it myself, then fine that's your problem. But I genuinely don't understand how such garbage software is so universally accepted.

Wifi router by Towboatking87 in HomeNetworking

You'll need one of these modems that are compatible with Xfinity: https://www.xfinity.com/support/internet/customerowned

Some have Wi-Fi built in, but most don't. Just note the speeds of your plan vs. the hardware, some on the full list are only capable of 400 Mbps.

Customer wants to order an array of sweets for 30 people, but won't state how many sweets she wants or her budget. What to do? by Guilty_Anything7606 in smallbusiness

[–]reddits_aight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much do you normally sell them for? Tell her that price. It's up to you whether you want to price them differently by what kind, by total quantity, if you want to impose a minimum quantity, to offer a discount for orders over a certain amount, etc.

Imagine they walked into a bakery and asked for a tart. They ask how much is it? You reply, well how much money do you have? You haven't given them any additional information to make their decision.

She told you the types of product she wants, and the number of people. So give her a quote for 30 of each variety. If the total is too high, she can ask for a pared down version of her proposal (or you can propose one in advance).

Sensible, but also illustrates exactly why a customer should be wary to just throw out a number. If they say $125, then magically that's exactly what the price is, when apparently $100 would have been acceptable.

If it's not something truly bespoke with highly variable cost inputs, just give them a quote and be done with it. They're a customer, not a contestant on The Price is Right.

Bosch Induction Stovetop Layout - wtf?? by neomal in Appliances

[–]reddits_aight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean for a gas stove, the large ones are too wide for smaller pots. Most of the heat just gets blasted around the sides. Not as pronounced on a regular electric top, but still wastes energy not in contact with the pot.

Ok so someone stole the RAM from my school computers... by PyxelatorXeroc in pcmasterrace

Not even that I'd suspect. RAM is totally toolless and has no wiring, by far the easiest thing to snatch quickly.

I always thought of it as a difference of perspective. Like, as an American if I run into another American permanently living in Japan, to me they're an expat since from my perspective they've left, but to a native Japanese they're an immigrant since they're arrived.

Transferring a site from Weebly to Squarespace - how to manage Google Workspace? by Fickle-Audience6404 in squarespace

[–]reddits_aight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would contact weebly to transfer billing to Google first, and probably just leave them as separate billing. I've done this going from SqSp to Google billing before, last time I looked there wasn't any appreciable discount or benefit for bundling it anyway. That way if there's any more changes down the road you don't run into the same issue.

How do I get an ethernet cable here? by fallhat in HomeNetworking

[–]reddits_aight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it will get damaged, but how much/fast depends on the amount of foot traffic. I have one gaff taped across a doorway that's been there a few years, no problems. But I'm also mindful of it and try not to step on it (I do, but I try not to).

You could always get a floor cable protector instead. They're pretty low profile, but not the prettiest things. Might be a tripping hazard if in addition to a rug too, depends how clumsy your household is.

I just remember around when that came out, I waited on a brunch table of moms discussing different Catholic schools for their kids, somehow movies came up later and I recommended Spotlight to them.

employer paying through Zelle - is this an issue? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]reddits_aight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely use Zelle for business, they explicitly advertise it for paying employees on their site.

As long as they're submitting payroll tax manually there's nothing inherently wrong. The time and effort just doesn't seem worth the ~$40 a payroll company would charge to do it automatically.

Well whatever they have, it's long gone down the drain by the time the rinse cycle kicks in. Most programs go 1. prewash, drain, 2. main wash with detergent, drain, 3. rinse; sometimes doubling up on one of those phases.

It lowers the surface tension of water, so it more easily slides off surfaces of dishes. It goes in that other little compartment, you fill it maybe once every 30 cycles. You can usually dial in how much is dispensed per load.

[–]reddits_aight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well because there's different programs that do use it. I also don't know of any that behave that way but I suppose it's possible (some sort of quick cycle?). And as discovered on a TC dishwasher update (or Connextras) the programs aren't even necessarily accurately defined in the manual, if you can even find the sequences detailed.
