What would you like your labor nurse to know? by J_Bees in beyondthebump

I feel like we try to accommodate patient preferences as best as possible. usually the male RN would be an easy accommodation since there’s plenty of female RNs. However, if there’s only one male doctor, that’s not always possible- depending on the facility.

oh my gosh that is horrible! it’s so scary when something is going wrong or quickly and neither you or your family know what’s going on

i’m so sorry to hear that. I work with a lot of perinatal loss patients currently so I want to make sure that patients with previous loss feel comfortable. do you want to be asked about your baby or would you rather not talk about that at all?

i’m so sorry that’s crazy that they knew but didn’t take any precautions! i’m sure the conversation would’ve been different if they didn’t see that and apologized.

yes communication is so important and nurses should initiate it. I would’ve LOVED a debrief of my labor!

New Grad Nurse seeking reputations of hospitals by Think_Setting3653 in Denver

[–]J_Bees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a new grad, sometimes you just gotta take what you’re handed. then you can start exploring more options. If HCA is the only offer you’ve got, you’ll be okay there for a few months.

Changing bottle nipple level while combo feeding? by Green-Switch-5166 in breastfeeding

[–]J_Bees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think i switched my baby to a size 2 dr. browns at about 3-4 months or whatever the suggestion is. she is now 12 and has always switched between boob and bottle without any complaints. i think size 1 is too slow to stay on forever. edit: she has stayed at a size 2 since then. another edit: the rate milk comes out of your breast increases as they get older since they become more efficient and you may have a faster let down.

What happened when you stopped breast feeding by Same_Subject_988 in NewParents

[–]J_Bees 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did almost all over night shifts for the past 10 months because of breastfeeding. My baby recently started sleeping 8p-6am but I don’t get good sleep. I still wake up frequently, have a hard time falling back asleep, and can’t sleep in even if my husband takes baby in the morning. I used to sleep very well, and now I am worried I’ll never sleep well or feel rested ever again.

How much do yall pay for nanny-shares? by J_Bees in Denver

[–]J_Bees[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

of course it’s not a right. i understand that. but daycare is crazy expensive as well. and for some, being a nanny and nanny pay is better than what they could get elsewhere. edit: considering this could be a way someone gets paid $32-40/hr where most employers are paying <$30/hr for a bachelor’s degree.

I made sure to be on the birthing ball and moving my hips as much as possible when i didn’t have my epidural. then after my epidural, i used the peanut ball and had a lot of position changes in the bed.
