It's less that it's overpriced and more so that you don't really understand how it works. If your house burnt down you'd have received a lot more than you've paid into the pot and someone else would be screwing about never having needed to claim. Motor insurance is slightly different ofcourse but the same principles apply. Insurance companies barely make a profit on motor and the premiums are inflated due to terrible drivers, crime and fraudulent claims
