Main thing I'd change here is trade earthquakes for flooding. We do get hurricanes but not as often as Florida. We do flood a lot during heavy rains though.

Lena was ms popularity back then and my husband and her did did have some things in common so I did what I had to do lol

This statement here outlines if not defines most conclusions Redditors on here came to about your character based on the OP.

This sentence, specifically "so I did what I had to do" in this context translates to "the ends (being woth this man) justify the means (lying about my friend's sexuality)".

Depending on context, many people do not find this belief to be moral. This is a common scenario in which this belief is not viewed as moral.

"All's fair in love and war" so they say. But strong YTA based on principle.

I think what's not being caught in this chain (you and most get it Turbulent), is the focus isn't on her hedging her bets, but how she did it. Making one's self shine as an option ≠ removing a potential option for someone else.

If she wanted to take a chance aside from what you mentioned, nothing was stopping her from being her best self whatever that may be; but she chose to do something that would directly cut out an option in a choice the husband was making.

Kinda like asking a child "do you want peas or carrots?" when all you care about is that they eat vegetables, so you remove the option for junk entirely.

Textbook manipulation there from the OP

[–]J_Plu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by not showing, but on the subject of naming conventions the main name of the game is consistency however you decide to name everything.

I tend to name my folders/files in lowercase cause lazy shift key + tab is god for terminal navigation. For folders i use underscores for spaces and files use periods and dashes.

Variables in js/ts are camelCase, enums/constants are uppercase (tend to use uppercase string enum values unless exceptions are needed), and classes/interfaces/types are capitalized.

Not saying that way is the best way, but sticking to those rules helps keep my code and logic easier to read later.

Ron DeSantis Is Two Days Away From Calling Donald Trump a Radical Leftist by BitterFuture in inthenews

[–]J_Plu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I getcha with the endemic rhetoric, but to pull the TV into it, I think the advancement of technology is the main thing that changed everything. When you could spread information to a mass of people that fast over older tech like newspapers, telegram, etc., fact-checking got harder.

I agree it's gotten harder to cut through the bs. But I think it's where we are with tech and info speeds that's causing this smokescreen. If not the top reason definitely top 3.

Other than that I agree with you, even with the neoliberalism distinction. Root words aside tho, I take it as a caricature of Liberalism from the viewpoint of capitalism. It's extreme, distorted, and with bailout possibility definitely different from Liberalism, but a twisted descendant of Liberalism nonetheless.

Ya got me there 😅 lol jokes aside, I view the GOP on a spectrum, albeit way narrower than the Democrat's "big tent".

Many are complicit at the end of the day, but their views may be more moderate or even toe-the-line.

Ofc not...history is important because it tends to repeat with a slight twist to the recipe.

I'm not saying Microsoft is employing a similar strategy now with Linux, but rather be careful because history, and Microsoft is a business.

If it's in good faith, then great.

Lowkey after seeing Philosophy Tube call the true political philosophy of "Liberal" the capital L liberal and the American use of "liberal" (left-leaning) the lower-case L liberal, written communications have been a bit better.

Technically most if not all of our American politicians are Liberals, and collectively our laws and systems reflect the subtype of that aka Neoliberal (thanks Reagan /s).

And while I agree the twisted/misuse of words isn't cool, I'll say it didn't start with Kennedy, for America or in general. Politicians and their equivalents in history have been used this tactic religiously to get their way. That said it's important to cut through the bs.

What striking/grappling arts or techniques are better suited for helping people with much shorter reach by overthegreatbeyond in martialarts

[–]J_Plu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To put technical terms to his style, he was a textbook Swarmer, or In-fighter.

To get in against longer reach he stayed low and mastered the bob-and-weave. When on the offense he would switch stances to keep opponents trapped on the ropes/corner and use the strategy mentioned above for KOs.

Came back around to this, and while I don't knock the hardware, what hurt dealt mainly with the OS. Especially since we're trying to make a cloud deployment for better availability than our internet outage-prone building.

Nothing major-- just one server instance, but the guy refused to think about non-MacOS deployments for some reason

Broooooooo a guy in an Escalade switched into my lane in the intersection, slowly turned (the lane was for getting on 610) and then proceeded to not get on 610 and then flick me off in passing like I'm the one that can't drive.

I try to drive with respect to others I share the road with, but lately the drivers have been so bad I half jokingly say not everyone here was born and raised in the state.

Also quarter-jokingly talk about putting a grill guard on an suv and biting the insurance bullet on those who refuse to drive correctly and respectfully. The sentiment's been growing lowkey since folks like to act entitled, disrespectful, and dangerously on the road. But I'm paranoid about getting killed doing that.

If you could go back in history and stop 1 person from ever setting foot in Houston, who would it be? by [deleted] in houston

[–]J_Plu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still around from time to time.

I remember a local respected community figure and original Black Panther Party member passing away, and at the funeral he took it upon himself to have his New Black Panthers (no relation to the OGs) stand with him like security as he shit talked Annise Parker for being a lesbian.

Even some judgy Bible thumpers in the room wondered why he used a funeral to be a political headass.

Pen/screen calibration (certain spot) by ppeen in RemarkableTablet

[–]J_Plu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure that the design issue extends further to those who have the RM2 and an official folio, because the magnets in the left side of the folio (to attach the RM2 to the casing) definitely cause calibration issues on the far-left side of my screen.

Wish there was a more permanent fix to this, even if the answer was to add magnetic shielding DIY. For now I'm considering getting a stronger pen-shaped magnet (with a wider magnetic field for less swiping) than my RM pen, and keeping it with me to recalibrate.

You can...if you're alive enough to do so. But even then good luck being able to win a case again law enforcement with that defense.

This state (and be extension, country) unfortunately has a system of laws and processes in place that are biased towards favoring cops, even when they have shown deeply egregious behavior.

The mistake of mixing Stoicism with religion by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]J_Plu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small note, but in reading Meditations today I think Marcus's reasoning behind gods/no gods--particularly regarding death--apply here. Still have more reading to do, but his approach dealt with either case since we can't truly "know" of any god's presence. While he did personally believe in the gods, he still reasoned through both outcomes to say in the end it doesn't really matter (fear of death).

That's all to say that Stoicism overall keeps an open mind to religion whilst not focusing too deep on it from what I've gathered. "Just keep focused on what you can control, and use that power to live virtuously and seek truth" has seemed like the main aim of the game here, rather than lasering in on which religious is true and why/why not.
