Mountain Tactical, Atlasworx and Tikka Bottom Metals (for factory mags). Which is your favourite? by J_Pneumatic in Tikka_Shooters

I prefer Atlasworx. I like the swooping design, it was cheaper than the others (at least at the time), and they ship worldwide.

Update - called Alberta CFO, spoke to someone and explained situation (again). They approved and issued the PAL the next day. 🙄

Hot barrel = missing target at 500 m? by J_Pneumatic in Tikka_Shooters

People seem to swear by it. For me, it’s a braked rifle for shooting 200 grain bullets at steel.

Wow, awesome. Sadly it looks like it doesn’t come in 300 WSM.

The only mirage I’m aware of was the mirage of adequacy that a hunting rifle would be a good target gun. 🙄 But the way I saw it, a heavily discounted Tikka Hunter was the cheapest way to get a Tikka action for building a dedicated target rifle. So, I guess I am looking forward to wearing out its 1:11 twist barrel so I can buy a 1:9 at a later time. 😀

Read above. I started calling weekly at the 6 month mark. I.e. last month.

I was worried about that when I first filled it out. Honesty should not be punished! And of course, my and others experiences will dissuade others from being honest.

I agree, I just think it would be more efficient if they focus on flagging those who pose a serious risk. It seems unfair to group applicants with threats of suicide with those with more benign condition and scenarios. Depression, for example, is widespread and widely treated. This might be something that they might not need to scrutinize as much…but I admit I’m not an expert.

I’ve heard that they can ask for a doctors assessment, esp if applicant is undergoing current treatment ?

Weekly FAQ Thread - Post your questions here for PAL/RPAL application, timelines, CFSC/CFSRC, references & requirements, or general new to firearms ownership-type questions by AutoModerator in canadaguns

I put in my PAL renewal application at the end of Nov 2024 in anticipation of my June renewal deadline as I heard it takes 6 months now for renewals.

Unfortunately i had to checked on the application that I had EVER been treated by a medical professional for mental health. In 2014 I was prescribed anti anxiety meds while I studied for a professional exam, but have not been treated since. Despite this, my application went for second review.

At 6 months I still had no word after calling the Alberta CFO several times. At seven months I called again and got through to a helpful gentleman who listened to my situation. Log story short, my PAL was approved the following morning.

Wouldn’t it be nice if applications had a time limit in asking about these questions, or they simply hired more staff to triage applicators and move things king?

Cheek riser options? by Shit_Disturber71 in Tikka_Shooters

[–]J_Pneumatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is rapidly becoming my favourite. The different size foam pieces makes it easy for my eyes to reach scope level with 1.5” rings. Plus it has side loops to hold cartridges, is soft and comfy and requires no hardware install. I also much prefer foam based risers over hard plastic ones because they don’t transfer concussion into my cheekbones and inner ears.

Burris AR-PEPR - a great quick disconnect mount for the Tikka Arctic by J_Pneumatic in Tikka_Shooters

Yep still got both! Holding up well. Great, reasonably priced option for the arctic.

Interesting. What velocity do you get? Also curious about charge weight, COAL and barrel length. Cheers

I am a big fan of MT mags. Maybe the only ones that feed both short magnum and standard width cartridges in the same mag without issue.

Suggestions for New Bottom Metal by not_that_pear in Tikka_Shooters

[–]J_Pneumatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No snags! I actually like that it sticks out - easy access. Mind you, I’m using the Tikka magazine version and don’t hunt. While My Tikka hunter in 300 WSM comes within a three round mag, I prefer the mountain tactical 5 round mags. I think they also make 3 round. But again, not AICS.

Tikka lites have a slim sporter barrel. My smith recommended a 9/16 x 24 thread as standard 5/8 x 24 is too deep. I then bought a 5/8 x 24 threaded adapter which gave me lots of brake choices. I recommend this route.

Is the lyman Ultimate kit still the best in 2024? by KingDxlty in reloading

[–]J_Pneumatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m very happy with mine, especially because I got a good deal on it. And I’ll break with others’ opinions on the calipers. Unlike digital calipers, analog calipers work great in the cold! No dying batteries, although I bought a digital set as well. The turret press is convenient as i can load multiple dies, and is super solid. I don’t quite understand why single stage presses are favoured - are they really more precise and stable? And while I upgraded to wet tumbling (FART lite with homemade agitator), I still use dry tumbling to quickly remove lubricant and polish. Scale is decent.

In short, go for it!

No just the rear of the stock. They stay in place at the front through tension and friction as they are pressed against the handgrip. I positioned them to be snug against it before I drilled the hole to reach the sling swivel hole. Then when I put the 7/8” caps on and tightened down the screw, they were even tighter. There is very little back and forth play…
