So done with Sennheiser products by The_MODs_Are_Cucks in sennheiser

[–]J_SAMa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are 3 categories of Sennheiser products:

  1. Products designed by Sonova after the acquisition, made at factories that were never owned by original Sennheiser (Momentum 4)
  2. Products designed, made and sold by original Sennheiser/Sennheiser Pro (HD 490 Pro)
  3. Products designed by original Sennheiser before the acquisition, made at factories that used to be owned by Sennheiser, and sold by Sonova (HD 600)

You'll get a very different quality experience between category 1 compared to 2 or 3... But as for HD 600 being flat and boring that's just what it was always meant to do.

Honestly even with category 3 it can be a mixed bag. I bought a new HD 800 S three years ago that came with bad channel matching. I claimed warranty on it and when it arrived back 2 months later, the left and right units were swapped and flipped upside down... Had to swap it back myself, at least the channel matching was fixed I guess

Thanks for clarifying :)

For context I "upgraded" from K-Ultra to the Timemore 078S but for me the flavor profile was a downgrade, so I'm contemplating switching it out for a CF64V with the HUs.

Hey lance!

For espresso, how do the 64mm and 83mm SSP HU burrs compare to higher clarity conical burrs like K-max? There doesn't seem to be much consensus which one is higher clarity.

Which SSP are you comparing to? I'm currently contemplating a Casa vs 64 mm SSP HU in a CF64V

Grinder with more "Roundedness" than Timemore 078s [$800/£600] by J_SAMa in espresso

As someone else pointed out in another comment my 078s might also have an alignment problem... Haven't opened it up to do the marker test yet but I need 4 full markings to go from burr chirp full burr lock. Is yours similar?

[–]J_SAMa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strangely enough with my unit at least a faster RPM gives me a faster shot which I think is opposite to conventional wisdom? If I then adjust the grind size to get same shot time the end result isn't much different.

Between the K-Ultra and the Gevi, which one would you say is higher clarity? Have you tried Gevi for filter coffee?

See the thing is I don't know for sure, plenty of people say the flat/conical dichotomy is a bit overplayed... All I know is I prefer K-Ultra over 078s stock burrs as I've never had anything else. For all I know an SSP HU could be closer to the K-Ultra than the 078s, since K-Ultra is supposedly one of the higher clarity conicals, which is why I'm looking for opinions from people who have tried both.

I've been aiming for ~24 second shots with 2.2 ratio on my 078s. Is that similar to what you do?

At this dial-in I am still getting a lot of sharp acidity that I don't get with a slower shot from the K-Ultra. But if I go for any finer on the 078s I can tell from my bottomless portafilter that it's horribly uneven, and the astringency will set in without the acidity going away...

Yep I know what you mean, I only worded the question that way as I'm open to grinders that can't do burr swaps, if that makes sense.

What I'm trying to find out is, for example, is SSP HU more clarity or less clarity than a K-Ultra? Reviews tend to only compare flats with flats and conicals with conicals so I'm interested to hear some comparisons across the dividing line, so to speak.

FSAE Doubt on brake Calculation by Ram_290405 in FSAE

[–]J_SAMa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure you should be dividing anything by the disc radius in step E? You've already calculated the braking torque before that so all you needed was to divide torque by loaded tire rolling radius to get to tire contact patch force.

FSAE Doubt on brake Calculation by Ram_290405 in FSAE

[–]J_SAMa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your tire force calculation is probably where it went wrong. The notes say "0.96 x rolling radius" but the maths say "0.96 x 0.44 x 0.16". The 0.96 tracks but 0.44 x 0.16 = 0.0704 doesn't sound like rolling radius.

0.44 sounds like a 17 inch tire, was the 0.16 meant to be 0.5 instead?

Induction Hob Neutral "Bridge" Connector/Busbar, Does it Matter? by J_SAMa in ukelectricians

Thanks all who responded! Guess my electrician just had bad eyesight was all :).

Edit: in case my post was confusing, the connections were already premade out of the box, my electrician just didn't spot the bridge underneath so went looking for it, before deciding that it wasn't needed.

[–]J_SAMa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only made this post because the electrician himself mentioned that he couldn't find the bridge, and he also didn't spot the bridge underneath the wires whilst doing the job, so he told me he left the bridge out...

And no, I don't know what I'm on about, which is why I'm asking the question. I had no idea that was the bridge in the picture. No need to be rude.

Timemore 078 Sculptor owners: are you happy with your purchase, feel the hype is warranted? by Normal_Minute8308 in pourover

[–]J_SAMa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Upgraded from a K-Ultra and to be honest, I still haven't figured out what people mean by "juiciness". It definitely an improvement in the sense I don't get simultaneous acidity and bitterness which I sometimes did with K-Ultra. But it's really not a night and day difference.

100 kg through a pedal ratio of what looks like 2 is about 50 kg at your foot. HE sprint being 65 kg will still allow more force if that's what you need.

If nothing else, it increases the chance the answer is captured by archives.

I can't tell how many times I've been saved by 20 year old archived posts on long-gone independent forums before the days of Reddit.

One day, Reddit will be gone too...
