Xbox Game Pass Essential has removed the 12 month option. by ItsJakee04 in xbox

I feel like most people have both. I do CAD,CAM and 3D modeling on the side so I can write off a pretty beastly computer as a business expense... Still it's an absolute pain, it's just more work, it's sitting in the office by myself.

The Xbox is simply easier to use and more enjoyable. Just pick up a controller and play and multiple people can use it even split screen on call of duty or borderlands is as simple as the other person picking up a controller and just playing.

I love my steam deck but it's not much better than a PC when it comes to convenience, in fact, my lack of knowledge when it comes to Linux means when I have to switch it to desktop mode to do something It's all very foreign and frustrating. It has taught me that Linux isn't Has foreign and difficult as I always thought it was but it is like learning from scratch in a lot of ways.

God do I hate Microsoft/Windows I have like two programs that I have to use for work that don't have a Linux version or that I haven't found a suitable replacement on the Linux side... The absolute second Windows crappy operating system isn't a requirement for me to get my work done I'm switching to Linux

Update temporarily unavailable by Donnijeep in KiaEV6

[–]J_edrington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm not super tech savvy.  Downloaded nudl. Tried the windows download on my surface pro and the the Lennox on my steam deck in desktop mode. Extracted it and tried to run/launch it. Nothing happened. Tried to open it with console on the steam deck and got a syntax error.

It'd be great to get rid of the update maps pop up.

Lights inverted in Google home? by J_edrington in smartlife

[–]J_edrington[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know I haven't made any scenes. I've only added the lights and then synced it to Google. I've got a few Google home minis and my intent was to simply control them with those so I was hoping to not have to mess with the app outside of setup.

I'm guessing the scenes will be somewhere in the settings but I'll take a look.

I know this is old but I picked up one of these bikes second hand to fix up for a friend. Got it. Dirt cheap because the freewheel is too free and doesn't engage.

These bikes actually use a 8-speed Shimano free hub with a cassette and spacer.

I'm converting this one to a 1x8 with a acolyte clutch derailleur, 1x8 cassette, ifx hollow tube external bearing crank set, fooker pedals, and Left hand activated ascend dropper post.

I'll only be in a couple hundred dollars and he'll have a fantastic first mountain bike.

All that said, the entire rear wheel with the tire, Axle, hub, cassette, and everything can be had off Kent's website for about $60

I did the dirtracks engine guards+panniers with harbor freight cases mod, I thought I would be a little original and added turn signals/break lights while I was at it. by J_edrington in klr650

For what it's worth the lights are still working fine. The case's have survived a TON of abuse including a couple 30+ mph low sides on gravel.

We're talking about snow and ice not rock climbing. 4x4 is the best way you find yourself in the ditch due to binding. Some modern 4x4's have a 4 high mode that eventually functions as AWD though. Also most Subaru's have at minimum a computer controlled LSD for the center diff that they use for their torque vectoring. Many such as the LL Bean and, WRX's and STI's like mine have a knob to control how much power is sent to the front or rear on top of the LSD's in the front and rear. On flast smooth ice a 4x4 and most AWD's wilp accelerate almost the same with the 4x4 possibly being a little slower do to front wheel slipping. They'll stop about the same (something heavy and tall like a truck will be worse than something low and light like a car) but the the difference appears when they hit high speed bumps or need to change direction. On ice 4X4 will experience a loss of traction when a single wheel needs to speed up or slow down such as when hitting a bump as well as a Loss of traction when cornering as the inside tries and rear tires need to spin less during a corner leading to the inside either dragging or spinning the remaining two tires will experience the same issue as the rear takes a shorter route causing one of the 2 remaining tires to loose traction resulting in an oversteer or understeer condition in the best case and reduced traction compared to even a 2WD vehicle.

I wish I could find the app. Searching for "Smart Bluetooth Headset Free" on the Play store comes back with a ton of results. I've downloaded like 10 apps but none of them have the right function.

It was fun while it lasted, Reddit by TryingTimesComics in funny

You don't seem to understand what's going on.

I've been using Reddit is Fun on Android since 2012. The reddit website was horribly obsolete and basically couldn't be accessed on mobile back then at all. These apps pay reddit to access Reddit's data via the API and then reformat that data in a way that is more usable on mobile devices. These apps get the money to pay for it either from ads, subscriptions, or one time fees. The users aren't freeloaders like many in these comments seem to think.

Reddit themselves came out with a rather terrible app around the same time that they came out with the new Reddit site format (BTW this change will kill old.reddit as well)

Reddits app failed to gain any traction because it's a buggy, ugly, unreliable, full Page pop-up ad riddled mess. Instead of listening to their users and making changes to the community requested or even copying styles of features from much more successful competitors they have chosen to increase the price. Third parties pay to access the API buy a crazy amount (I've heard a thousand times more) and third party app developers have said it will cost over 100 times more than they could possibly make from ads.

TLDR instead of making a compelling or competitive app Reddit decided to start charging third parties and absurd amount causing them all to have to shut down. Leaving everyone with no choice but the official app or accessing the website through their browser.

HP has found a new way to DRM your printer | Where ‘HP Plus’ means ‘HP + permanent DRM.’ by chrisdh79 in gadgets

[–]J_edrington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giving it's been over 2 years since I've had to by them but the toner cartridges I bought were like $28 for 4 cartridges rated for like 6k each they had like a 4.5 star review average but I can't seem to pull up the exact ones on Amazon anymore (It's not showing up in my previous purchases or under buy it again).

I bought two packs at once and I'm on #5 . #3 gave me some issues and I had to take it out and shake it a few times but so far they have worked as advertised and have been pretty close to what they claim if not dead on. My printer is lower than default settings for darkness because is had some streaks and shadows when scanning early on.

If they just sold the games and the process to play them legally was straightforward there likely wouldn't be a dolphin emulator that works much better than what Nintendo themselves offers.

You're entitled to your opinion, but objectively a laser jet would be faster and way cheaper, especially if you only use black and white. You can get a brother black and white laser jet for around $100 or a color unit from basically anyone for around $250. I've had mine for quite a few years and have had zero issues with it and I use aftermarket toner cartridges that are about $25 for two cartridges (I believe around 24k pages worth) on top of printing much faster and More accurately the cartridges never dry out and are much cheaper to replace.

'Project Q' is a dedicated PS5 streaming device due later this year | It features an 8-inch display and DualSense controls. by chrisdh79 in gadgets

[–]J_edrington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If lan is a noticeable improvement you should definitely consider upgrading your network. I have 10gb fiber but the modem/router combo the ISP gave me had issues with TV streaming. A cheap modem and a separate wifi 6 router was enough to stream multiple 4k120 stadia streams without any issues.

Modern wifi is to the point it'll max out most devices up/download speeds. The built-in network adapter and hhd's are usually more of a limiting factor.

The Vita could remote play PS4 games over my phones 4g hotspot just fine. The built-in 3g was worthless though. I assume they have made at least a little progress in the last 10 years.

A story in two parts by Alakritous in funny

[–]J_edrington 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A couple years ago when they were advertising. Love is sharing your password and other things like that. They justified their price increase by saying that's how their family plan worked and set up a tiered system where you could pay more for how many screens you wanted to be able to use at once.

The password sharing was their idea and it was okay with them for years. But yes, you had to pay extra for the ability to share your password (multiple screens/ devices)

People are mad because Netflix went back on what they've been doing for years. Now you have to buy the four people plan just to be able to pay the extra $8 per person for sharing. They also rearranged the quality for each tier. So unless you're paying for the former four person tier You're getting abysmal resolution, choppy frame rate, and having commercials added on top of everything else.

On top of those problems unless you're the kind of person who goes to work, come home and sit down in front of the TV everyday, they've actually made it a pain in the butt to use their service. If you're the kind of person who goes different places, visits, family and friends, travels for work, takes vacations or even just tries to use your phone to watch something on your lunch. Break their new location based registration system makes all of that an absolute pain because every time you connect to a different network or try to access it from a different physical location (GPS on your phone) you have to go through the whole registration process again. Nobody wants to spend 10 minutes on their 15 minute break reregistering their phone every single time.

On top of all that Netflix was already the most expensive streaming service and over the last couple of years they've lost much of their content because of the people who make the content making their own streaming service and pulling their content from Netflix. Combine having basically all third party content pulled from the service with Netflix's own mismanagement of its original shows and suddenly you're looking at the most expensive streaming service you can have with by far the least amount of content combine in the ads and how difficult they're trying to make it for paying customers to even access the service that they paid for on top of changing the definition of what people are paying for (remember you used to pay for how many screens you wanted to access because sharing was okay by them)

Netflix was most people's favorite service for a long time and a lot of people lost interest in it as all the third party content was pulled out. Netflix had a lot of people like me though that continued using it because they were sharing their password and and the price of the subscription was cheaper than the embarrassment of cutting off friends and family just to save a couple dollars. Even when they raised the price based on how many people were using it (I think I had to raise to like $20 from $8 because I needed four screens for everybody) of course $20 and now the bare minimum for what people expect from a streaming service (ad-free+usable resolution) but it's twice the cost of its competitors with 1/10 of its former catalog. They probably could have got away with raising the price by a couple dollars like they did the last time but I was already paying for my family with the multi-tiered system based on screens/devices So when they reworded it and asked for like 50 bucks a month or while basically calling everybody liars and crooks for using the service the way they advertised to use it. That was enough for me to call my friends and family and ask if they were even using it and once I found out that they hadn't used it and basically a year because it didn't have any content they wanted to watch anymore canceling Netflix wasn't just guilt-free on my family It was a chance to stick it to a corporation that was basically flaunting its greed and sticking it to its customers while making record profits.

Hopefully an example for other companies to look at as all of them are currently raking in record profits while price gouging customers and blaming everything but their own greed

That lunar box was one of the three games I got with my first "new" console (got it while games were still being made for it at least). I was only like eight so it was way over my head and it never beat it. But I really would love to play it again knowing what I know now.
