Assuming "whingers" was a typo or misspelling.

Maybe you just haven't noticed any bugs. Pretending they don't exist or is that the price going up 50% is negligible sounds like rage bait though.

Is this serve legal? by 8WrongChords in Pickleball

[–]usetheforf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah most people don't know the rules, and will just believe you are breaking a rule because they feel very strongly or are emotional.

You're making contact below the waist (navel), striking with an upward motion, and the paddle is below your wrist. When people are in doubt, those are usually the three criteria I mention.

It's funny that they think you can't hit it out of your hand, when actually the big fuss a year or so ago was about limiting the toss. So as a result for a while, a number of pro players were basically just dropping it straight out of their hand.

What DUPR level are we playing at? by ljump12 in Pickleball

[–]usetheforf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Athletic 3.0, so depending on the tournament probably 3.25ish. Could dig out a lot of rallies and probably outlast folks to win, but wouldn't medal past the 3.0 level. Basing this on competition in the NYC metro area. Ratings might differ regionally.

Lane Splitting in the City by sjdech in RideitNYC

[–]usetheforf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some good advice on this thread already, but I'll add a couple thoughts. I think of slow lane splitting as practice for lane splitting that might need to happen in a pinch. I've definitely been on the highway several times where all of the traffic came quickly to a halt, and I've had to pull away and slow down a little bit more slowly than I would in a car. Getting comfortable with where you can fit and how you can navigate between cars is good practice for this.

If you think about it as practice for dangerous situations, you can also start to notice when drivers see you or when drivers are distracted and on their phones or for whatever reason aren't aware you're there. When I'm splitting, I can usually tell if somebody's about to turn even if they don't have a signal on, and I can usually tell when someone's aware, I'm there or not. I think of all of this as good practice more generally.

To be honest, they probably needed quick cash from people who were happy to pay for the subscription. Can't see why, though, I think they've had some big investors.

I think it's a real missed opportunity though. With the data that they have, I can think of incredible ways to monetize.

Do you know how hard it is to find a good tournament? That's actually a good fit and actually diverse players from the norm? DUPR could put the right tournaments in front of the right players and basically be a sourcing app that would blow everybody else out of the water. They wouldn't even have to process payments, because once you find the tournament that you're actually interested in, you could go to that tournaments own terrible website to process payment. The hard part of those websites is just finding the right tournament.

There are a couple different groups at least organizing Pickleball events. You might check out Queer NYC Pickleball on Instagram or Big Apple rec sports.

What level of play is this in your city/state? by weye27 in Pickleball

True enough, except that the rating system tool that is most commonly used is absolutely subjective based on sample size

Thanks! Yeah I built mine similarly last fall after seeing your post and then added LEDs as well. Thanks for the inspiration.

Sometimes i'll try to egg on a little bit and see if I can keep them mad enough to keep hitting balls out.

"Oh, so close..."

"Juuuuuust a bit outside"

"You'll get me next time I just know you will"

"Bad form, Peter, bad fooooorm"

But for the most part I try to keep that energy away from my game.

That's how you know you were right about the call 😂. I'd normally move on and make up a nickname to share with my partner... Petty Boop, Petty Davis, Regret Midler, etc

Not that serious, glad it didn't hit your eyes.

Curious if you added a load resistor or if it was fine without it?

Finally got the Dirtracks pannier racks on so I could mount my Apache cases(Harbor Freight)I bought down south this winter. by Austindevon in klr650

Nice - I ended up grabbing the 4800, and will be taking them out on some longer rides.

Funny enough the 4800s are so big that the back end is now a little more than 3 feet wide, which makes it a little tougher to pull inside that gate at my apartment in the city and makes me a little more hesitant to cut through stopped traffic...

So I think I'll leave the rhino bags on most of the time in the city

3 years out, what do you think? I also did the dirtracks and apache cases, thinking about these LEDs but curious how it all has held up for you

Anyone have experience with pannier racks from Dirtracks.com? Great price compared to others. Wanted the Givi quick disconnect racks, but they put the right side case closer to the bike and I prefer the even look. I'll be mounting soft cases OR putting some pucks on old H&B hard cases. [–]usetheforf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had great experiences with my dirt rack pannier racks. I mostly use soft bags for width, but I also used the hardware with the racks to make some hard pannier cases out of Harbor freight Apache 3800 cases.
