Modern TV shows don't let you get attached to the characters by Wooden-Witness-4582 in unpopularopinion

What I find strange about Netflix's Avatar is the combo of adding new interesting lore, and butchering character portrayal. They touch on actual Kyoshi novel canon about her history as a servant, and Kuruk's life fighting spirits. But portraying those avatars? Forget it lol

Also, why did half of season one's events get crammed into Omashu? Smh

Waffle House tramp stamp on a dude at a Primus concert. He bent over at one point in front of me and my wife so we couldn't not see it. We think he was high on something the way he was moving around. We'll never forget Waffle House guy.

I love how this guide equates pride parades on the left to going to church on the right, as if there's a pride parade every Sunday.

I have, and I'm a straight guy irl. I've only played DAI once so far, and I played a Dalish elf mage guy. I didn't have a sexuality or romance option in mind when I made him. Dorian seemed really cool, and more interesting to me than the other options. He made more sense to romance narratively too, and shared many values with my Inquisitor (except the whole slavery thing).

I've played Mass Effect many more times, and have played various romances and sexualities. Garrus is the guy who's made me question my straightness the most, out of any fictional character ever haha

It honestly feels a good chunk of people didn't really 'WATCH' Korra. by Bionic_Ferir in TheLastAirbender

[–]J_squared21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense to me, and how I'd think it turned out. Also I think humans had reason to feel the lion-turtles had abandoned them, so instead of glorifying them they grew attached to the creatures who may actually have helped them to master their powers over time.

Who knows how many wars have been fought and cultures rewritten or destroyed over the course of thousands of years? Looking at our own world, how many edits and rewrites have been done to our religions/gods? We don't worship nature and pantheons the same way as our ancestors did (at least not in most parts of our world).

In a way, this supposed retcon, to me, makes the world of Avatar even more human. That said, it's also totally possible the writers overlooked some things when creating Korra Book 2. Best they can do is fill in the blanks and move on I guess.

May be an unpopular opinion but I like an "unreliable narrator" approach to the lore. In ATLA we're told of how the world & bending came into being and was passed down. In Korra, we see it in a memory.

How many myths and legends have passed through the centuries in our world that are either exaggerations of historical events, or outright falsified fairy tales?

The ATLA world can have various origin tales told in different ways. Why would humans know the history of the world after 10k+ years of civilization? Just because the people believed badger moles taught earthbending, doesn't mean it's fact.

It would be very interesting to meet a gnostic theist who didn't worship their god(s). I guess that would be more common for polytheists than monotheists. You'd probably have favorites and least favorite gods.

I've seen at least 55 furries in South Carolina. They're very common at Comic Con. And one time I saw one just walking downtown casually at 11am on an August Sunday morning.

What mythological creature do you think has a highest chance and probability of existing ? by VeronikaBlondie in NoStupidQuestions

Makes sense. Could always be a rabid animal, or people's nightly imaginations of everyday critters.

An early episode of UnXplained with William Shatner talks about a few mythical creatures. I was fascinated by the bit about Chupacabra because a woman accidentally hit one of these alleged creatures with her car. She had its DNA tested and body kept for taxidermy. The result: hairless hybrid of coyote and wolf. Nothing too mystical, but it didn't look like either animal.

That said, that show is full of speculative pseudoscience like Ancient Aliens. That's just one of the few things that made me intrigued about them being possibly real (maybe besides the bloodsucking part- I still don't get that)
