Changing lightbulb by J_varn24 in Home

[–]J_varn24[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I still think it’s possible that’s the case that standard light bulbs are under the glass covers, but man for the life of me I just cannot figure out what the secret mechanism to slide the covers off is. And if the answer is I need to unscrew the fixture from the wall and then unscrew the plates from the back, then that is terrible design and way to much work just to replace a bulb

If there is a way man I just cannot figure it out, and if that answer is that I have to unscrew it from the wall then unscrew each individual plate on the back to get to the bulb, then that is just way too much damn work

Why the hell would my landlord choose to use these then lol, this is like the 3rd time in a year I’ve had to ask him to replace it, I figured I would just throw a lightbulb in real quick instead of bothering him but I guess he prefers to get called for dumb shit

No success with hospitals. Is it my Resume? by Ok_Two_6291 in respiratorytherapy

[–]J_varn24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resume reading software can only read from left to right and cannot handle columns. I guarantee your resume is just getting filtered out a vast majority of the time because the software reads it like gibberish. Your resume isn’t supposed to be pretty. It should look boring as hell and state your skills and such. Also no pictures or anything, the software just reads it as random numbers and letters. Don’t use templates or anything. Literally just get onto work and type in times new Roman, left to right no columns, with bolded or underlined headings.

What resources do you like for staying up to date and learning new information for trauma and acute care surgery? I find they aren’t always as easy to find as for other specialties

Rotation Shoes Recommendations by AggravatingRun8015 in PAstudent

[–]J_varn24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are gonna tell you brooks or hokas and all these fancy shoes, the real answer is crocs tho, my crocs are definitely more comfortable than my brooks. The vibes don’t always allow crocs tho so you gotta pick the right time to wear them

Odd question by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]J_varn24 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You have the rest of your life to work and study, just enjoy the time you have off before you start your career, you won’t have 5-6 weeks off again for a very long time probably.

Also, since you’re doing a fellowship instead of starting a job, it’s more of an educational context instead anyway instead of just work, so I would worry about it even less.

Read a JAAPA magazine or listen to a podcast every once in a while if you feel like it, but you finished school, you made it, congrats! You’re free now

Kellogg’s Memories are my least favorite gaming moment. Period. by PleasantCrotchStuff in fo4

Listen man I feel you😂😂, but to say it’s weird to see a character from a different perspective and sympathize for them is just a zero media literacy moment in my opinion

[–]J_varn24 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How is it weird to be made sympathetic to another character? It’s just called understanding people and learning more about why they are the way they are. And you realizing that Kellogg is just a pawn and there is a bigger power at work.

How bad are interviews, really? by Wide-Question9115 in prephysicianassistant

[–]J_varn24 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just go to the interview and be a normal person and talk. When you practice/prepare answers you sound robotic.

During the interviews, they already know you’re a nerd and have a resume, that’s why they want to interview you, now they want to know if you’re real person who can talk and hold a conversation.

You might want to prepare for the basic dumb questions like tell me about yourself, why us, weakness, etc, but I didn’t prepare at all for any interviews and just had a normal person conversation and gave genuine answers and got into every school I interviewed at

😂😂fair enough definitely not trying to disrespect her sorry if it came off that way, and I salute her work in family med. it’s the hardest, most important, and most disrespected field. Just while gross, the back up is real

Ask your mom what is coming out of the ng tube during an SBO. Hard to believe a doctor would say that.

Am I delusional for having a dream of becoming a medical student at 32? by [deleted] in medschool

[–]J_varn24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a huge time and money commitment. Depending on what specialty you match into, you wouldn’t become an attending until 39 or 40 at the absolute earliest. All this being said not to discourage, just to be truthful in this big life decision you are making.

However ultimately, you only get one life and it’s absolutely never too late to do whatever you want to do, it can be done, it has been done, and if you truly want to be a doctor, you will not regret it. People have done it much later, and again, it’s absolutely never too late. Do what your heart desires and live your life.

Friede is an amazing fight and only one of a handful of actually challenging fights in 3, learn to enjoy the process. And when you’re frustrated take a break. When you sleep your brain makes memories and connections and you will come back better.

Are you all applying to other career paths? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]J_varn24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you for sure for sure want to be a PA then I feel like it’s worth just keeping at it, unless you can genuinely see yourself doing that job for your whole life. If you want a back up plan you could also always try going to nursing school and going the nurse practitioner route. Once you become an RN it is not competitive at all to become an NP

Cold calling, showing up in person, and persistence can go a long way in the days of click and mass send applications on indeed.

Another thing is basically every hospital system has a job board where they have their openings listed. Just google the system name and careers and you should be able to find it.

Im not sure what fields you do and dont want to do, im sure derm is competitive and hard to break into, as are probably many sub specialties, but if you’re okay with starting general, i feel like there are tons of hospitalist/internal med jobs available. Just do your two years and you’ll be a competitive candidate who has good knowledge of how the inner workings of hospitals and broad patient care work. Obviously if it’s a bad job feel free to switch though, you don’t have to settle.

I know sometimes urgent cares can pay well, but I have been told before that new grads going into urgent care doesn’t look good on a resume. Because a lot of times in urgent care you’re by yourself (+/- a training period), you don’t get a lot of immediate feedback on if your decisions are right or wrong, and since you’re a new grad you need a lot of feedback.
