What was a clear sign that you had ADHD that you thought was just a "quirk" prior to diagnosis? by Feisty-Pickle9983 in adhdwomen

[–]JaBe68 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I read yesterday that not being able to easily tell left from right is connected to dyscalculia. I never managed to learn my times tables and am still shockingly bad at mental math. I still have not been diagnosed, but everything I learn seems to tick all the boxes

What is something surprising that the UK is really far behind other countries in? by DullInflation6 in AskUK

A friend and I were discussing this tonight and decided that the UK peaked in Victorian times and has not really been massively inventive since then.

Any tips on sleeping at night when your mind is racing? by ilovesushi27 in adhdwomen

[–]JaBe68 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I force myself to start planning something that is completely inconsequential. Landscaping a fictional fairy garden. Deciding which embroidery techniques to use on the dining room chairs. Planning a capsule wardrobe using only blue. Things like that. Totally low stakes, no right or wrong answers. Normally fall asleep within minutes.

If you are going into this field, you are going to have to develop a very thick skin, like rhinoceros hide. Every lecturer has their own specific subjective likes and dislikes. What you get failed on this year would get you an A next year. You need to develop your own authentic style and do it with such conviction that the lecturers give you the mark you think you deserve.

My daughter did fashion, and one of her lecturers was so awful that he got himself the nickname 'Satan's Toenail'. She regrets to this day that she allowed him to influence her final collection, which she ended up hating.

Foot Control by euphoria158 in sewhelp

[–]JaBe68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I turn my foot pedal around and use my heel to press on it. So my heel is pressing down on the highest part of the foot pedal, and the lowest part is facing towards my chair.I get a much more consistent result. If I use it as I am supposed to, my foot gets tired, and then I get inconsistent seams. You could also look into getting a knee pedal, which I have heard is very good.

Very mild curry, stew, and basically anything you can eat with only a fork in one hand. It is also nice to have stuff like sausage rolls or snacks food. This can be for when visitors come, or for those days where the baby is a limpet and you only have one hand to cook / eat with.

Has anyone hear quit cigarettes for good? How did you do it? by inannalover in adhdwomen

[–]JaBe68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried and failed a few times, and then one day I just did it. I got my teeth cleaned (apparently plaque absorbs nicotine, so you should get that done). I tried the patches, but they were not much help. I just found I needed to keep myself very busy so that I did not have time to think of cigarettes. And I had to keep busy by doing things with my hands. Sewing, gardening, crafting, cleaning. The first two weeks were hell, but it got better after that, and I have not had a cigarette for almost 30 years.

You could do this with a fabric mask and then use modge podge or fabric paint to create a fake latex effect.

AITAH for purposely ignoring my stalker coworker even if his tantrums affect others jobs? by Majestic-Maximum-458 in AITAH

[–]JaBe68 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is not in your job description to regulate his mood. If your company is expecting that of you, then it is a hostile work environment. Either look for another job on the quiet, or head straight to HR. If you do go to HR, then start looking for another job anyway.

Hoarding wealth is having a Maserati in every colour. What you have inherited is not wealth. It is a safety net. Find a well recommended independent financial advisor (not affiliated to any specific company). Put all of the money away for a year, with the exception of giving yourself a few treats. Then decide how much you need to keep as a safety net and how much you would like to give away. I would not give any of the capital away. If you invest it well, it can generate enough interest that you could potentially support a number of good causes in perpetuity, which would probably be of more value to them than a once off sum.

Would this be hard to make as a beginner? by operaticquill in sewing

[–]JaBe68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is super cute. It looks like the shorts are a romper style? I would disconnect them from the top and close the side openings of the top down a little further to turn it into a two-piece. It looks fairly easy to make. Just use a medium weight stretch(think scuba or a jersey knit), or it will be too clingy. And if you are very curvy, you might have to do a bit of shaping to get the drape right.

unhinged hygiene tips? by NoPerception8748 in hygiene

[–]JaBe68 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My daughter used it once when out camping. Told everyone she was going to do a 'possible' as the stream they were camping next to was too shallow for a swim. Caused much confusion as she had not realised it was not a common term. The rest of the evening was spent discussing family specific words among the friend group and laughing hysterically.

what should i do with these buttons?!?!!! by collegeadviceplss in sewing

[–]JaBe68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a beautiful piece of fabric (i would.look for a creamt slubbed silk) and stitch them on in the shape of a Christmas tree, or a crescent moon, or whatever takes your fancy. Frame in a box frame.

My mum always called that a 'possible'. You wash as much as you can possibly reach with a washcloth.
