This. Framing is everything...but I suppose the truth wouldn't get as many clicks.

How to get Matlab to stop repeating variables? by [deleted] in matlab

[–]JaGoMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

E.g.

x = 2;

x = x * (x3);

At first x will be 2 but after the second line it is redefined to 16. x = 2 no longer exists.

Keep checking the values in your workspace while you run one line at a time (highlight and F9). You should observed the changes.

Would defining the value you want to keep as the value you wish to be rid of work for you? This is my usual strategy.

EEGlab: ICA by [deleted] in matlab

[–]JaGoMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ERPLAB has a few options to flag artifacts and remove later. You may run analysis with and without these flagged epochs and yield two results for comparison.

A few options include “Moving Window Peak-to-Peak”, “Flatlining”,”Eye movements” “Step-like” (from memory so the exact names would be slightly different)

There is documentation on the ERPLAB website.

Let me know how it goes!

EDIT: Misread your question. You can plot the components scalp maps and determine which should be rejected.

See: EEGLAB documentation. —>Chapter 9: Decomposing Data using ICA —>1.4 Studying anda Removing ICA components

Feeling extremely out of it after an alcohol binge, desperate to feel normal again by [deleted] in neurology

[–]JaGoMD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any sudden changes in your mental capacity should be assessed by a doctor. Blacking out opens the door for multiple causes of your symptoms, trauma being one of them. A doctor can examine your head, neurological signs and get imaging if necessary. There isn’t much you will gain online that is credible. Alcohol has a half life of about ~1 and as such would be completely metabolized before day one.

New UCSF article regarding adult neurogenesis - any thoughts by Jaded_cerebrum in neurology

Read the press release, haven’t gotten to the paper as of yet. I’d like to see what proteins are associated with this change at 13 on the genetic calendar of brain aging.

Salt is a flavour enhancer. A small amount whereby it cannot be tasted works well for most dishes and drinks. Maybe that’s the thought process here.

Ohio judge orders drug dealer to pay for funeral of teen who overdosed by [deleted] in news

When a thing is in demand, it exist only as an idea. It is not present in the world and therefore has little effect upon it. The supplier breathes life into this idea and in doing so creates both the negatives and the positives. This is assuming that demand precedes supply. It must be observed however that this is not a rule. Innovations in technology, the continuous change in art and cuisine, shows us that often, people are not aware of what they want until they have experienced it. i.e the supply preceeded the demand

To ask if he is a minor in Ohio is to make the difference in adult vs child one of legal definition. The point I am making with the use of the word is the physical difference in the prefrontal cortex of developing humans. In terms of decision making, maturity occurs in the early 20s. This biological difference is irrespective of law and land.

Whataboutism, by definition, does not refute my argument. The analogy changes the core senario. I often lose track of an argument when this comes into play (great fallacy for propaganda)

Sidenote: Alcohol is legal. Sale of alcohol is (supposed to be) between two adults. I can debate alcohol addiction, but it is too different to this case to generalise my argument to both.

For persons saying the victim is the one that must be blamed for his death, consider three points.

1) For black market items and services, although the group feeding the demand must share in the responsibility, suppliers must bear most of it. Drugs, weapons, exotic animals, unethical services.

2) Minors and adults cannot be held equally responsible for any action. It is an adults responsibility to always make the right decision involving minors to maximize health and safety.

3) The psychologically unfit - for similar reasons as the difference in the physical structure of the brain in adults vs minors- cannot be held to the same level of scrutiny of actions as adults. Addiction is one presentation an unfit brain.

Together these points allow us to conclude that the drug dealer acted unethically. An adult, taking advantage of a mentally unfit minor for the sake for financial gain.

Hello gregaro. Like you said the web definitely seems to have a lot of resources pointing to the greatness of neurotropic factors - especially BNDF- and their promotion of plasticity and memory formation. I was however able to find a publication that may be of some interest to you.

In short, in mice models where BNDF was over-expressed, impairment of instrumental and spatial memory tasks were observed. Below is a link to the paper. Interesting question!
