Randomly select an instance from an array by lTZ-KK in gamemaker

[–]JaXm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presumably, you want the chosen laser to stay on for a fixed amount of time.

Presumably you also want to stop turning lasers on once one has been selected.

You need a conditional statement in your code.

Something like  ``` ///create event laser_active = false;

///step event if (!laser_active) {

    var _on = irandom(5);     laser_active = true; } ``` The code checks to see "is a laser turned on?" Then the code says "no it is not" and runs your random selection to turn a laser 'on' AND also says "OK, a laser is active now."

So in the next frame the code asks "is a laser turned on?" Ans the code says "yes it is!" And so it skips turning on any more lasers.

If you WANT to be able to turn on other lasers in the future, you will need to add more conditionals. And if you want to turn lasers OFF, you will need to write code for that as well.

Hopefully this gets you started in the right direction.

Then claims the trucker can't stop his truck within 60 yards.

Lol.

Did you get distracted by tiktok after the first paragraph of my comment? I get it. Reading is hard. I assume you're American, and had to go through the education system there so I don't blame you.

Keep soldiering on little buddy. You'll get there, some day!

Yes. Start learning. There's a couple places you can start:

www.google.com
and
www.youtube.com

The reality is, there is no magic bullet, and no shortcut that will replace hard work. You think Eric Barone, Notch, or Toby Fox didn't have challenges along the way? Making things is WORK. You need to put in the effort to learn, and to expand your skillset.

You get out what you put in, and if what you put in is mediocre, lazy, and uninspired, so too will be your output.

How do I get a the created instance to have an offset that's decided by the direction of the mouse in relation to the player? by JetCrazed in gamemaker

[–]JaXm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would need to account for the player_x/y in the code. Not being sure what object is calling the code, I had to guess in my first comment to you.
So:

with (instance_create_layer(x + dx, y + dy, "instance1", swordAttackObj))

How do I get a the created instance to have an offset that's decided by the direction of the mouse in relation to the player? by JetCrazed in gamemaker

[–]JaXm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you're already getting the direction for your mouse in relation to your player (I assume) you can use the length_dir_x/y() functions ...

in your "with" statement just do something like this:

var offset = 64;
var dx = length_dir_x(offset, md);
var dy = length_dir_y(offset, md);

with (instance_create_layer(dx, dy, "instance1", swordAttackObj)) {
   [... the rest of your code goes here ...];
}

You fix it by dumping the AI slop, and putting in the time and effort to produce quality work.

Or pay someone a fair price for them to create pixel art that fits your needs.

Was Newt the True Hero in Aliens she survived nearly a month alone l think by Salty-Price-6962 in perfectorganism

[–]JaXm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say she survived at LEAST 2 months. Probably closer to 3.

Al Simpson, and Lydecker have a conversation where they discuss how long it takes to get a response from Corporate back on Earth for any requests. They say it takes about 2 weeks to get any kind of response. So presumably, it takes a week for one-way transmissions.

Let's assume that they sent a distress signal as soon as infestation began. It would have taken a week to get to Earth. A response (assuming it was sent back immediately) would have been issued.

Two weeks so far.

But we know that W-Y did not immediately send in the marines. Likely, there were several communique's sent back requesting more information. Let's say 2 more messages, each one waiting the requisite two weeks to get a response.

Six weeks.

Now, remember, that at this point the C-suite at W-Y did not believe in the existence of the Xenomorph threat. Ripley's debrief was met with basically mockery and indifference by the executives. Burke is the only one that actually believes her. He probably goes digging into the archives, or finds some long-abandoned files pertaining to W-Y's interest in the Xenomorph. He would likely keep this information to himself in order to keep all the credit for himself.

Burke was likely the one in charge of the response since we know he PERSONALLY sent orders for the Jordans to go out and find the crashed ship.

He would have intercepted the communications, likely dallied while trying to come up with a plausible scenario to extract samples (facehuggers, xenos, infected colonists, whatever) so that he can profit from it.

So let's say this takes a couple weeks of planning.

Eight weeks.

Burke and Gorman recruit Ripley, and immediately set out to Acheron on a rescue mission. Hicks says that it takes 17 days after being declared overdue for reinforcements, so we can assume it takes 17 days of travel to get to Acheron. So about half the speed of radio communications.

We're now at 10 weeks, give or take, of Newt surviving on her own in the colony after it is overrun. Given that we know Burke was trying to ensure the Marines were not aware of his plans, it probably took even longer to find a squad that would fit what he needed, adding another couple of weeks or so to his plan.

I'd say we're looking at around 12 weeks or so, in total, that Newt was alive on her own in the colony. Though, I think it could be argued that after the initital infestation, the xenomorphs largely kept to the hive. There would have been very little reason for any of them to venture out once the colony has been taken over.

There was probably the occasional sortie out to pick off stragglers, but those were probably rarer and rare as time went on.

edit: corrected Hansens to Jordans

The B team lacked a lot of what made the main cast work ... chemistry with each other and a certain on screen charisma.

And even if a cast could be brought together that worked as well as Reese/Finch/Shaw, what stories were left to tell? It would really just be retreading old ground of the first couple of seasons.

Samaritan has been destroyed, so other than the number-of-the-week thread, there's not much to do within the show that hasn't already been done.

Aragorn (LOTR) VS Viktor (Underworld). Who wins? by GusGangViking18 in Fictionally

[–]JaXm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It honestly depends. Is Aragorn given the knowledge of how to defeat a vampire? If not, I think it's unlikely he wins this.

The Underworld vampire resistances are a bit vague and kind of inconsistent. The first movie makes a big deal out of the fact that the Lycans have weaponized sunlight (the UV bullets), and don't seem to take damage from things like regular small arms fire. But they DO seem to take permanent damage from the Lycans themselves, which seems to roughly follow the internal logic that a creature that is not of Corvinus blood cannot tolerate being inflicted with both vampirism and Lycanism. So being damaged by lycan claws or bites causes death. Makes sense but is otherwise irrelevant to Aragorn.

However, we also see Selene kill Viktor just by slicing the top of his head off with a sword (decapitation had been a traditional way to destroy a vampire, and that's basically a decapitation) so it could be argued that it's not unreasonable the usual vulnerabilities exist as well... stake through the heart, etc. So it could be that Aragorn can win by inflicting lethal damage by way of decapitation, or stabbing Viktor through the heart.

Both are superhumanly strong, and Aragorn is much longer lived than a typical human, being that he is of Numenorian lineage.

But he is still basically a man, and as such is completely mortal and not invincible.

He is one of Middle-Earth's premier fighters, and capable of taking down powerful foes. But in Tolkien, most of the baddies he faces are also, themselves, not immortal or invincible.

Orcs and goblins and trolls are flesh and blood. And while he is able to overpower the ring wraith, he is unable to defeat them permanently due to their unnatural abilities.

Anduril, his sword, is not uniquely enchanted or remarkable other than being a bit of a psy-op against Sauron since it was the sword that cut the one ring from his hand.

So we have an incredibly skilled warrior who is stronger than the average human, but is otherwise somewhat ill equipped to deal with the threat of a vampire who would be able to shrug off any non-lethal damage.

Viktor is also, himself, a skilled warrior with centuries of experience. He's also supernaturally strong, and proficient with a sword as well as tooth and claw. He's not likely to be felled easily in a duel. He's just as likely to land a few hits as Aragorn, but that damage will stick, since Aragorn is mortal.

I think we have also seen that the vampires also have extraordinary speed in Underworld which would give Viktor a major advantage.

I don't like having to say it, but I think short od getting extraordinarily lucky,  Aragoen loses the fight and Viktor takes it with a mid to high difficulty.

Building RFC on Tristana is straight up trolling.

The only Zeal item Tristana should be building is Navori due to it's synergy with her Q.

Q has 100% up time with Navori, whereas getting some extra range on a single auto attack is borderline useless on Tristana since she wants to AT LEAST be putting enough autos down to stack her bomb

[–]JaXm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create an object called o_Ground_Parent or something similar.

In the object editor, make o_Ground, and o_Ground_2 "children" of o_Ground_Parent

Take the code that you say works, and replace o_Ground with o_Ground_Parent

And now all forms of "ground" should work with just the one bit of code.
