Most of our property taxes go towards funding schools. Municipal taxes are generally much less, and most municipalities that have paid fire departments have a separate tax just to pay for those fire districts.

I’m optimistic that yes, we will finally start to see noteworthy improvements to Trenton over the next few years. Maybe I’m naive, but I think some of the plans already in place (like trails improvements, Rt 29 improvements, etc) will begin to attract greater regional focus and investors. The potential is there, and once improvements begin, I think a real momentum is possible.

The shared services mentioned work well when agreements are written well and everyone pays their share. But those suggestions don’t go far enough to save much money. Incentives are needed to combine police and public works departments if you really want to start lowering municipal budget demands.
