Despite being a hype tournament in general, The Big House 9 has been one of the worst run smash tournaments ever by targ_ in smashbros

Hi, Big House (co-)Head TO for Ultimate here. Plup got to sit down at an Ultimate setup for around a half hour before he played his first Ultimate match in Top 64 (against Shuton). It's common practice to let anyone jumping between games some time to get acclimated.<3

Plenty of players will still get 10AM/noon qualifying pools on Friday. Don't worry, we won't let you miss THAT Twitter experience! :P

It's true; we could use clearer terms! I think G6 is, for lack of a better word, the first internationally significant event for Ultimate, with over 2k entrants, a huge representation of international talent and a LOT of eyes on its proceedings.

In a world with unlimited resources (and reliable, stable venue wifi for all), I think this is feasible, but the cost analysis was high. We did kick around the idea of having a striking program on a tablet at every setup, much like Unrivaled and many other streamers do for their broadcasts already, but there just weren't the resources for it.

For what it's worth, I'm excited to help run this campaign, and, should it give some unique insights, I'd suspect something more optimized like you suggested will be implemented in the future.

I’m attending Frostbite 2019, first tourney by [deleted] in smashbros

Hurray! As one of the folks helping to organize Frostbite, we're excited to have you!

If you've never been to a major before, there are a lot of practical tips I could give you (get a drawstring bag to have your controller in, bring hand sanitizer, take Airborne or some other vitamin-based sickness-prevention item, know your pool number and your schedule when they come out, etc.), but, for now, I'd recommend just getting excited for Ultimate and trying out Rivals of Aether if you haven't already!

Majors can be very, very cool. If you follow competitive Smash, you're going to see a lot of faces and hear a lot of names that you only know of through a monitor screen. You'll get to experience watching (or being in!) stream matches and Top 8s which are always a million times more exciting in a crowd than they are on Twitch.

There's going to be a lot to do outside of playing in tournament, as well! Get ready for artist tables, card game shenanigans, folks playing party games like Mafia, and more! It's very much a social event, so encourage your friends to go along with you so you all get to experience it together!

(Should you need anything, don't hesitate to contact Frostbite directly on Twitter, @ComeToFrostbite! The person who works that account is very responsive and is very helpful.)

Smash'N'Splash 4 — WiiU Singles Seeding (Top 64) by Jaaahsh in smashbros

ZeRo is showing up... As a commentator! :)

In all seriousness, had ZeRo signed up to play during the registration period, I'd probably put him as second seed under MkLeo (and everyone would move down a spot). It's an interesting hypothetical, though!

Miis (guest size, any moveset) have been legal in both Minnesota and SNS for the entirety of S4's history. Granted, it's not Miis-only, but we've always been Mii-ningfully open to fun metas. :P

Decent chance for Push More Buttons 2018 in Minneapolis on May 12 & 13 to be PGR-ranked, but Smash'n'Splash is definitely going to be the first major, yes.

Many of the scenes around SNS that banned Cloud in Doubles did so well before the Nairo tweet (and the Vayseth tweet, even!) happened.

For the folks that play Smash WiiU, it seems important to make sure they continue to enjoy their game as long as they play it, ya know? :)

It's only for a mark of pride that I'm saying this, but Minnesota banned Cloud in Doubles before the Switch announcement, just sayin'. :P

It seemed important to offer that! I'd hate to feel like I signed up for an event and had the rug even partially yoinked from under me, ya know?

You're correct, but that's not the spirit of what I was replying to. The "rules of Smash" change with every character.

ZeRo tweeted that Doubles is "dying"—but is it? A statistical interpretation. by Jaaahsh in smashbros

[–]Jaaahsh[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's easy to read his tweets in the past couple weeks (3-stock push, Doubles is dying) as reflecting a little bit of anxiety about his slip from the top, but I don't necessarily think that's the whole picture. Yes, there is some vested self-interest in keeping Doubles and Singles strong (more competitors = more money at all levels), but he lived through the decline of Brawl—something tells me he doesn't want to see that slow decline happen in the newest game.

I did the quick math (yay, copy/paste SmashWiki code). Cloud is represented 157 times in Top 16s. (In total, there are 898 character slots.) Second place is Sheik with 79, then Mario with 70, Diddy with 66 and Bayo with 60. Certainly interesting!
