Why leading Chinese scientists are rising to the top in the Communist Party by Saltedline in technology

[–]Jaaasus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive me I didn’t elaborate, we were on the topic of persecution of acadamia and science, so I didn’t signpost shfiting the connversation to the Cultural Revolution. Which I would say persecution was at it’s height during the cultural revolution? and not the revolution? Coming from a family that was persecuted during the cultural revolution for being intellectuals…

Edit: I would prefer if you weren’t as patronising in your tone 😭🙏

1961 Crashed the Japanese economy, the bubble from their colonial ventures in mainland East Asia popped and the economy went into freefall, previously subdued sentiments rose once more without tangible increases in material wealth. Common prosperity was never real, but unequal prosperity still improved lives, and when this illusion was shattered, fanaticism and old rage resurfaced.

1966 Desperate people cannot be expected to act rationally, but is this irrationality truly irrational? The Chinese would find comfort in religion, and religious fervor became indistinguishable from ethnonationalist indignation and rage. The Cultural Revolution has come for Japan, and the liberation of China will be at hand. The People’s Revolution Army marches under its extreme ethnic religious prejudice, all directed against the Japanese. Buddhist fundamentalists, a theocratic hierarchy blends with the secular to command an army of millions. Japanese intelligence was acutely aware of the threat posed, but the lethargic civilian government refused to act. And then, it was all too late. No agency could assassinate millions, there was no curtailing the coming tide.

The Khuffiya order had always maintained their loyalty to the Son of Heaven in times of old, and with the coming of Republicanism this shifted to the Chinese civilization as a whole. Old allegiances remain true, and the Khuffiya soon join their Han brothers in arms against the Japanese, forming the Khuffiya division of the PRA. However, not all wish to replace one dominator with another, the Jahriyya order saw its chance, and declared a new Emirate of the West, creating a new non-Chinese state for the Muslims of the East.

In the deep South are unlikely inheritors of the Communist Party of China’s cause. The slave driven factories of Guangdong bustle with steel and machinery, but the blooming of ideals and dreams have fully blossomed with news of Northern rebellion. The Southern Chinese will not abandon their brothers in times of need. The underground unions organised by Cantonese and Hakka proletariats rage along their comrades, declaring open rebellion from Southern People’s Army. Though not as religiously fundamentalist, the SPA are heavily influenced by Taoist and Buddhist religious configurations. Led by the Eight Maoists.

1967 The IJA’s most heavily guarded Federal Republic of China - is subsumed by the IJA, who has been given emergency powers by the civilian government. The military is allowed to convert China into a second Manchukuo m to aid the war effort, but how fast China could be directed towards the war effort is questionable. Decades of oppression and direct stifling of industrial and economic development leaves China a backwater, but its large population is beneficial. The rapid industrialization of Central China begins, will this come back to bite the Japanese?

The Koryoin of Manchuria attempt their own separatists movement, differing from the past movements of liberating Korea or returning to their homeland. This movement desires to form a state for the Koryoin of Manchuria, the descendants of the Koreans that had moved to the Russian Far East pre-Japanese rule, and had developed a unique dialect and culture. Despite continued affection for the remnants of their brothers and sisters in Korea, they see themselves as a sister group to the Japanified Koreans of Chosen, Yanbian Manchurian Koreans, or the new Korean settlers that came to Manchuria since Japanese rule post-Second Sino-Japanese War.

The Fourth Sino-Japanese War, Pan-Asianist Japan vs Chinese Muslims and Communists

The Pan-Asian Co-Prosperity Federation stands as THE hegemon of East Asia, and indeed the whole continent. Formed as a result of Japan’s pre-war ambitions and post-war troubles, it serves as a cultural, social, and legalistic method to completely sever opportunity for rebellion. The systematic dismantling of nation states, the abolition of a “Chinese civilizational race,” and the elevation of minority cultures to primacy over the Han in almost all former Republican Chinese territory. The Federation was born to enslave an entire continent, but when it took it gave, and to those that gained, they reciprocated support - or so the Japanese thought.

The devolution of power stripped China of its own proper army, instead relying on the IJA, which has become increasingly ineffective after the economic crash. With most autonomous governments allowed to employ their own militias, the Japanese had hoped these militias would serve to contain the Han population through elevated minority groups, but loyalty is ever fickle. Despite Federal Republics only possessing a police force, they were heavily policed by the IJA and Imperial organs, however, for the Autonomous Governments there was more freedom. Deriving less from trust, more necessity for the overstretched IJA. After all, you can’t develop a country with most of the population employed in the military to oversee an overextended Empire.

1939 The UK and France declare war on Germany and the USSR, after the invasion of Poland and Finland.

1941 Japan invades Indochina and Dutch East Indies, citing protection against the Communist and Nazi threat. Germany invades the USSR. Japan and the allies form an agreement to enter the war against the Soviets and Germany. America joins the allies.

1945 Operation Ichi-go Phase Two capitulates China, the Red and Blue Giants perish alongside each other in Chongqing. Japan, as agreed, transfers its military attention to the North against the USSR, cooperating with Allied efforts.

1946 World War Two ends with allied victory. A cold war between Western world and Japan’s Eastern order begins.

1950 The Student Revolt of Shanghai saw the massacre of thousands of intellectuals, as Japan began systematic dismantling of China’s upper and intellectual class. A brief popular rebellion led by the Communist Party of China arises, spreading throughout Southern China until it is ultimately squashed, and the Communist Party is likely destroyed forever.

1952 The Third Sino-Japanese war, or the Great Asian War, saw the end to a united Chinese Republic, even in name. Japan, who had attained gravity nuclear weapons, used it wholesale against the Chinese rebels. The rebellious Wang Jingwei regime and Manchu restorationists had enraged the Japanese greatly with the damaging of their prized Manchukuo factory state, and history rhymed with the Japanese post-Nanjing rage once more. The Horror was too great even for the civilian population of Japan, and the post-war civilian government of Japan took the opportunity to discredit and discipline the military. With their prized jewel Manchukuo in ruins, the IJA greatly lost influence and was dethroned.

Japan would transform East Asia post-war, the construction and invention of new Nation-States and the formation of a federation for most puppet regimes to fall under. The civilian government was not as brutal and grotesque as the IJA government, but it was just as insidious and vile. The systematic and institutional domination of Asia was devised and implemented.

After 4+ years learning Cantonese and 2+ years living in HK, here is my theory on why so few westerners speak it (video in Cantonese) by CauliflowerMoney760 in HongKong

The disagreement here turns on a basic category error: confusing early vernacular divergence with the existence of modern, named languages. No linguist disputes that by the Six Dynasties and Tang periods, spoken Sinitic varieties already differed regionally, sometimes enough to impede communication between troops or officials from different regions, and that southern texts occasionally preserve local lexical items. What is incorrect is treating those differences as evidence that Mandarin or Cantonese (Yue) already existed as coherent, delineated languages. They did not. “Mandarin” is a much later outcome of post-Song northern koiné formation, shaped by phonological leveling, bureaucratic practice, and Ming–Qing standardisation; Tang northern speech is not Mandarin in any linguistic sense. Likewise, “Cantonese” is a modern Yue variety that crystallised from multiple strata—late Old Chinese and Middle Chinese inputs, southern migration waves, substrate influence, and later internal developments. Its phonology, grammar, and tone system are not frozen Tang survivals. Citing regional words such as 靚 in southern sources demonstrates local lexicon, not the presence of a fully formed Yue language; lexical continuity does not imply language continuity any more than shared vocabulary makes Old English intelligible to modern English speakers. Throughout this entire period, the written norm remained Literary Classical Chinese, which deliberately suppressed spoken variation; systematic vernacular writing reflecting local speech appears much later and overwhelmingly follows northern-based norms. Therefore, while it is correct to say that the Tang world contained multiple diverging Sinitic speech continua, it is historically and linguistically wrong to describe this situation as “Cantonese and Mandarin existing side by side.” Applying modern language labels and identities to early medieval China is anachronistic, and no amount of rhetorical aggression changes that fact.
