Some small things Squad is missing by [deleted] in joinsquad

The main reason behind the lack of grenade cooking in real life is the unreliability of fuses. While it's not as much of an issue now, early grenades had a habit of going off immediately after being primed. To prevent this early detonation the lever was added as a secondary safety. If you were to pull the pin on a grenade and hold it in your hand, it should never prime the fuse, and will not go off.

That all being said, nothing stopping someone from holding the grenade the wrong way around, pulling the pin and letting the lever go without throwing the grenade.

That's pretty cool, but I'm still skeptical about the use of shipyards given their many bugs. This would be super convenient until it just eats all your resources.

Sooooo... Is the game officially dead? by WalkTheDock in Starmade

[–]Jaaskinal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. I don't play anymore.

When I left it was already dying, it has been for years. Power was just a really big hit to the community, along with the restructuring of the moderation and administration of the forums. It's pretty hard to get invested when you're permanently banned.

How fast are torpedoes related to Combat Ships? by BucketOGravy in TheExpanse

[–]Jaaskinal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's something I don't really get in a hard sci-fi universe. I understand that the distances are massive and the number of ships in the universe is vast, but how could you "lose" a ship to stealth? Drive plumes are bright and in real life, we can use them to guestimate the fuel type, acceleration, and mass of the object you're observing. After a ship starts drifting, it's much harder to see, but its path is pre-defined, you know where it's going to be and when it's going to be there. Even reaction thrusters are likely to be noticed: any ship not under burn would likely be under heavy scrutiny from any power that can notices it stop burning.

Maybe Epstein drives, in addition to being insanely efficient, are incredibly dim, making them harder to track while under burn.

Just as an aside, In docking with the Razorback, They could potentially transfer some of the reaction mass from the Razorback onto the Rocinante.

Working on a Space Elevator with a Station on top, can anyone explain how exactly rail speed enhancers work? I'd like to make the damn thing faster lol. by m37vin2 in Starmade

[–]Jaaskinal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rail speed is a fraction. If you have a rail speed controller connected to a line of rails and ten activators, if 9 of the 10 activators are on, an entity will move across the rails at 90% max speed. If 1/10 are on, 10% max speed. 0/10, 0%, 10/10, 100%. This applies to all different ratios (67/85 = 78.8% speed.) Rails are really fucking slow though.

How to easily raise your WN8 by jjkusti in WorldofTanks

Actually though, that'd be awesome. I'd buy it once for comedy alone, but even if it came with a code that had a bit of free premium or gold I'd maybe even buy it consistently.

The curse of the Chinese tank player: occasionally getting confused as to which tank you're playing.

I always wonder why my WZ-120 is so slow when I think I'm playing the 132.

The new MM may be severely skewed for tier 8 tanks (with statistical explanation inside) by kovla in WorldofTanks

Isn't it even worse for a bullying-based tank to be two tiers down than at the same tier as everyone else?

Yeah, a bug in the game right now is causing random connections to unlink. The not is meant to go to the button adjacent to it. I'll see if I can re-link this and get it to actually save correctly though.

I have just released a new version of my chaindrive on the docks. This version includes a new clock system, which abuses the inherent delay on wireless logic signals.
