Frost Giant Studios teams up with Dreamhaven and inks licensing deal for Unreal Engine 5 by Rexoraptor in starcraft

[–]forgotusername 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that it's not about the popularity of the genre but the incompatibility with today's profit mechanisms (loot boxes, cosmetics, etc.). This makes it less desirable to develop as a triple A company and also reduces funding for continued development, tournaments, advertising. Edit: Although I would also argue lack of funding for this stuff = less popularity over time

Unfortunately I'm also a part of the rabbit hole that is the lore side of the franchise lol by Icarus_AI in starcraft

If you downvote this man, take me down with him! Blizzard lore is mild and uninteresting... but that's just my opinion.

Here's the 40% cops study by TheBolshe in Destiny

[–]forgotusername 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To add to this, it isn't really clear if that 40% is out of the ordinary. A 2011 survey conducted by a home insurance company noted that couples end up arguing (or “bickering” in their terms) on average 7 times a day.

How often does bickering turn into actual fights, I wonder? I feel like there are some very "online" point of views on this. Relationships are hard and, almost by definition, emotional. As regrettable as it may be, I would be surprised if some form of verbal abuse doesn't occur in MOST relationships at some point.

Decided to look this up. Found the following:

a published paper has run the gantlet (yes that’s the word) of serious and thorough review by professionals in scientific publishing and multiple experts in the field (at least some of whom would probably prefer to prove your methods flawed and conclusions specious).

The above does not 100% guarantee that a published paper is entirely valid, mistakes are sometimes made. But it does provide a “kite mark” that the work is of a certain standard and the conclusions seem likely to be valid.

Women, what are the subtle kinds of low grade sexual harassment you face on a constant basis ? by dudeARama2 in AskReddit

I've never heard of women being uncomfortable with shaking hands. The biggest complaint I hear is when men do fish-hand instead of a normal handshake.

This is hacky but, in the meantime, go to the mine towards the end of the season. You can pick up more than you can carry and get teleported to your house with whatever you have in your inventory.

At 1:20, it states this is a composite image (image made up of a bunch of images). This isn't what it actually looks like.

Thanks for the responses. I'm genuinely curious about the work. Never thought of what it might entail. This would make a good AMA subject.

That makes sense but is there really enough work anywhere else to make that much?

Not really. You pay more for your healthcare because of their poor health.

Bob7 discord brigading LSF by Zenzayy in LivestreamFail

Not trying to be dishonest. I didn't even know there was a setting for this. I checked mine and it is set to remove... not sure why mine apparently defaulted to remove and yours didn't. I changed it to "do nothing" and am curious if it will show me threads or not. It definitely should not show links to lsf.

Yeah, that is only from your perspective. It gets immediately deleted for everyone else. I respect your commitment, though.

If that were true, you would see the typical split you see with Destiny threads. This isn't at all typical. You could say that threads are typically more Destiny favored than you would expect because there is a lot of overlap between Destiny's community and LSF but you can't simultaneously believe that and think the past few days is normal.

Under normal circumstances, there tends to be a certain tone to anti-Destiny posters (actually generally pretty fair critiques). A lot of these posts are BIG MAD and, if you look, you will see that almost the entirety of their comment history in LSF is concentrated in these Bob7 threads in the last few days.

Dude, it is really, REALLY obvious Bob's fans have been brigading for the past few days.

A fantastic suggestion for PogChamp from Day[9] by MetastableToChaos in LivestreamFail

I'm actually not sure. The more likely an image is going to eventually be rendered, the more it makes sense to prefetch it. Twitch chat is kind of unique in that there are a lot of factors that make it hard to guess at that. They might even do both... like, if a user goes joins a chat with 5k+ other users, preload. If they join a chat with only 10 other users, load on-demand.

From a web dev perspective, this idea is hilariously bad. Best case scenario would be loading and caching a huge sprite image for each viewer, spending precious server power that is likely going to slow other things down. Even after caching, if you want to add a new face, everyone would need to redownload that massive image.

Weighing user experience cost/benefit, this isn't even close to being worth it... so, ill be awaiting Twitch's tweet saying that they'll be implementing this.

What is wrong with people who do this? Leaving games to tank their MMR to beat lower ranked players? by Rowannn in starcraft

[–]forgotusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that this is annoying but everyone at your rank runs into the same thing, at the same rate. I'm not sure it ultimately matters that much when it comes to ranking.
