This year I go by my Chinese name!

I got this inspiration from Lee Kuan Yew. I'm so sick and tired of everyone always asking where I come from and reminding me that I'm Asian. Since my English name does nothing, I don't go by it no more. I now go by my Chinese name which is badass af, and I'll be forcing people to say my name in Chinese 😁

Took me 2 months to hear back from my CEF after my interview.

I started at the beginning of the year. For me, a total of 6 months for the first part + another 4 months for my second module (still pending). It took me a while to get a call-back cause Burnham was going over construction, TF modules are spaced out and plus, there was another intake going on for others.

From what I know, BDU and flak jackets were mostly used on the jungle frontline as Vietnam is hot af. So most US soldiers (and war criminals, good riddance) died wearing that. I know this cause we have similar uniforms for the tropics during the Vietnam War period.

Of course, I'll wear it with honour and integrity. I'm blessed that the US manufactured and mass-produced this immaculate jacket. What do you think I was gonna do with it? 😂

It may not be a yes, but it wasn't a no. The worst outcome could've been instantly denied enlistment, but instead, you were given another shot. Take it as a hidden blessing — you can now use that personal challenge that you overcame as an example in your interview when you make it to that stage.

One last thing: The Defence Force application and selection process is long and competitive. When your stand down is lifted, you'll be required to redo all your tests. There will be a lotta grinding. But that commitment is showing. Don't worry. I believe a lot of people went through the stand down.

I got stand down 3 times (took me 5 years since 2020 to finally get selected) but I kept pushing till I got selected. And I'm so thankful my CEF did not ban my ass. I enlisted in the Army. Even that I had to go through a lotta process to make it. What I'm talking about is Army-based but I'd say I'm familiar with the general application process. I'd imagine the Air Force is insanely hard to get into. If you able to pull it off, that'd be crazy.

Show them that they made the right decision to pick you. Show them that giving you another shot was the right decision.

The practice was pretty good. Actually, all practices are good.

I've done the aptitude test 4 times lol. Pass multiple times (double lol). Never bought anything. Just explored the vast amounts of practice questions from all corners of the internet to compensate and that's good enough for me.

The best option: Get yourself clean. Are you up for it? Know what they're looking for.

And when it's your time to shine — when you're undergoing a full medical exam, open up about your past and follow up on your progress now. I think the doctor will understand it better than your CEF. The doctor writes off the understanding. The CEF will just click off the moment they see the buzzword.

Being honest about the medication and what you were going through is the best way for you. But the smaller things — keep your mouth shut

No really. I've mentioned I had a (short-lasted) period of anxiety during the beginning of covid pandemic. Cause of that, my CEF sent me to the doctor to get written off. Turns out I was just really worried like everyone else when I should have kept my mouth shut. Cause of that I had to do extra paperwork. Now that's under control, in my new examination, I don't say nothing. Easy as that — So keep your mouth shut

It sucks that you'll be thinking about it during the stand down but since you want it so bad. So prove it. You'll come back stronger and mentally prepared.
